Thank you for sharing this fine photographs. My Dad used to drive a trolley back in the 1930s, while it was only part time work, as he also a part time job in the late 1930s at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in destroyer building programs, and after WW 2 started he helped in the building of destroyer escorts in Kearny, New Jersey. His Dad drove a trolley back around 1910 from what he told me, that Grandmother said.

Looking at how lightly constructed the Fulton Street el structure was helps me better understand why steel heavy weight cars like the 67' standards and the Triplex articulates could not possibly run on such lines.

You mean in 1889 Eastern Parkway and Van Siclen ave as that part of Eastern Parkway was renamed Pitkin during the late 1920s.

If the city could expand and build extra subway and elevated lines back in the early 20th century, WHY can't they finish the overdue 2nd Ave. Subway?

Yes they could rebuilding the second Ave subway line. It's starting right now to East Harlem 125 street connecting with the 4 5 6 line and the metro North railroad. Another thing to there is a real serious talk about the Q T trains running west 125 street to connect to the Broadway 1 line.
