    My dream is having a Korg synth containing the Opsix, Modwave, Wavestate and Kronos sample based stuff in one chassis/keyboard.

    • @cyberhawken
      @cyberhawken 10 місяців тому +6

      You can have that- a midikeyboard with the Korg vsts. Which is basically what the Opsix, Modwave, Wavestate already is.

      @@cyberhawken and you can make it multitimbral by just adding another track.

      Whatever their Kronos flagship replacement is should be the thing to do it…but who knows where it is on the production schedule before it hits stores. Seems like there’s a big board lull on right now because of a long run of classy gear starting to saturate the market. I’m guessing the smaller gizmos will dominate for the next little while.

    after some deliberation, I went with the Korg Wavestate SE and absolutely love it. The extra keys/octaves, aftertouch, etc really added to what was already a cool synth. The splits, layers and performances really bring out a whole new level of musicality out of the user

    The Opsix is far and away the best implementation of FM synthesis. I just wish with the new versions they went for improved hardware control (ie - digital scribble strips, more knobs and faders, etc).
    This is definitely an improvement over the original but the improvements are not in the things that make the Opsix good. Like they fixed bottlenecks which is a good thing but it would have been nice if they took what already made the Opsix the best FM synth and made that even better

    • @Screaming-Trees
      @Screaming-Trees 10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah. Sweetwater has some good videos highlighting the interface implementation which I think is a must watch: ua-cam.com/video/KLkhJHByLOU/v-deo.html
      They really did a great job with the UI. I'd buy this myself if I didn't have a Kurzweil K2700 which has a Dx7 in it as one of the synth engines.

      I think the modulation graphic representation in old and new Montage is still superior (you can "see" the sound much easier than trying to imagine it or hear, when programming something more advanced than just tweaking fabric presets.

      Modx with way more polyphony efx editing options although you lose the aftertouch and direct hardware editing knobs. For not much more$$
      A used montage under $2k might be a better buy much better build more poly still

    Only thing that bothers me is that for this 2000£/€ stage keyboard, they couldnt fit a power supply in the bit metal chassis… for this price and size I’d say that’s a requirement, at least for me

    • @vintagesynthesizers
      @vintagesynthesizers 10 місяців тому

      It's all the same platform as the initial OpSix. Korg just put the same main board and interface board into a different case. They are basically unable to use an internal PSU because they may want to keep a certain profit level out of this... And the internal PSU just means another layout for the mainboard. This synth technologically looks very similar to the KingKorg btw. The same metal top and plastic bottom and almost the synth on a chip.

    Sounds nice - but except the AT there is no reason at all to replace my MODX7 from 2019 by the Opsix. The MODX has a maximum of 8 operators per part, theoretically multiplied by 8 parts, also much more versatile otherwise (samples) - and ca. €500 cheaper!

    Compared to the original does this one seem faster in following the keyboard? Watching the video it does seem to have less latency compared to many poly synths where it is a press and wait situation and you can actually see that the sound is following the key-press a bit behind. Good to see you actually playing spontaneously. Is this keyboard supporting your spontaneity as the speed of many keyboards are good for playing what you already know; good for imitating : when the song is already playing in the listener's head; versus creating: where you need the instrument to convey what you are spontaneously improvising and needing every millisecond to come up with then next note without midi latency pile up and the distraction of the sequence of notes not coming out with the timing nuance you expected. I would like you to give your subjective feeling about these matters when you review a keyboard.

    Korg combine all three synth engines with a reguler pcm samples romplwr engine in one for $1299
    Allow enough polyphony for layering splits multitrack sequencer and multitrack audio recording to SSD card and fast 1 TB SSD loading of those 16 audio and instrument tracks.
    With sequencer ssd and tons of sampled sounds say 64 gb on a 1 tb ssd
    Layers splits scene e4c.
    This would be the best selling synth 8n the world no computer tablet 9r 0h9ne needed for sampling editing audio and synth recording.
    Built in HDMI and USB mouse input for editing and recording on the big screen faders knobs.
