But, for example, the winner was way off on the decanter set and 60 people were off on the lamps but must have compensated on one or more of the other prizes by exactly what they were off on the lamps. Somehow, 62 people came up with $28,677,85. Amazing. Ah, a simpler, safer time, when you could show someone's home address on national TV and there was no fear of their home being burglarized. A time when people sent telegrams (like in _It's a Wonderful Life_ and numerous other films). The winner in this case lived at the northern tip of Manhattan. I used to go by there almost every day on the train in the late 1960's and early 70's. It was also a time when many married women referred to themselves as "Mrs. Husband's Given Name + Husband's Family Name." Thank goodness that aspect of American culture is gone. Even as a kid, that never made sense to me, when I'd see my mother sign a check with my father's name.
