  • Anything is possible when your painting with dots. Decide what you want to paint. Draw in some guide lines then fill in with dots! By changing the size of the dots and the direction of the dots will give you the illusion of different movements. By adding dots on top of dots will give you more dimension. Going from a dark shade and graduating into lighter shades with add depth to your painting. And the possibilities and results are endless!
    Supplies I used:
    -2'x3' canvas deep canvas
    -4 large plastic cups
    -Foam brush set
    -Any type of dollar store paints. I used mostly Crafters Acrylic paint in black, white, silver, turquoise, Copenhagen blue, Aqua, Yellow neon, crimson, tropical blue, pure pumpkin.
    -jar of water
    -foam brush set of 25 pieces
    -Circular foam blocks with sewing pin pushed in
    -embossing tool with two size ball ends
    -white water color pencil
    -Cleaning wipes for hands and tools
    -I used about 14 plastic storage containers with lids to mix paints and for storage.
    -Ruler to draw on straight horizon line

    Hi Patti, I love this video. The one behind you during the intro is very nice too. On the dotted painting w mountains, I especially love the way you curved the dots to make the them flow that was very creative. I’ve only done a couple of rocks and have yet to dive into the deep end of the pool. You have inspired me to take out a new canvas.....we’ll see what happens. Thanks for sharing.. PAM

      Yeah I definitely dove into the deep end with this large dot painting. Go big or go home. Lol. I love landscapes so the idea came to me to do an abstract all in dots.
      Glad I’ve inspired you to go crazy and try something totally different!

    Sign of a great artist you make it look easy

      Also was there a reason why you went darker into middle rather than lighter as one normally would in painting a landscape?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  6 років тому

      It was more of an abstract landscape and when I got to that section I just wanted a division between the mountains and water so it ended up being darker.

    Lovely tutorial❣️ Unfortunate that we never get to see the finished piece. I was waiting for a shot of the whole painting - to see the complete effect. Too bad we didn’t get that opportunity. Just a suggestion for the next video you make of a large work like this one - give us a final look at the painting for a few seconds, maybe. I know I would appreciate it immensely. 💖 👵🏻💕🐾

      Thank you for your feedback. On almost every video I publish I take a final shot of the finished project. The whole painting is shown on the thumbnail that I used for the video. As well, I give you a view at .48 seconds to 1.02 minutes into the video. There is also a side view at 11.42 minutes as well as a shot at 11:52 minutes. There are many close ups along the way as well.

    This makes me want to try it. Did nobody mention that this type of art is called pointillism? Anyway, I love your videos. Thanks Patti!

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  5 років тому

      Thanks Deb. I have not heard of pointillism. So I looked it up and I have now learned something new. Thanks for that. Although my form of dot painting looks nothing like past famous artists form of pointillism. It was just something that came to me so I just experimented with it. Very interesting indeed.

    This is a very nice piece and video. Though I couldn't believe you mixed paints right over your work (so dangerous).

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  7 років тому

      Thks! I mixed the paint over the work for sake of not moving my camera and less editing but normally if I wasn't filming I mix my paints off to the side. I also find dot art very forgiving and if I get a bit of paint splatter then it's an easy fix with painting over with another dot.

      I tend to blitz on some of my projects because I just want to keep going, but this time I did 1 to 2 sections per day and made myself stop if I was getting over 2 hrs. So I probably worked on it over 8 days. I didn't time myself when I was painting so don't have an exact hr amount for you. I do get asked this question so I may have to start trying to time myself on my projects. I am filming and editing and designing as I go so to calculate actual painting time is a bit harder.

      I fully understand. I don't do dot painting but creating videos is more time consuming that viewers think because of all the prep and clean up work involved. Not to mention taking care of our households in the middle of our painting. Great job! I love your channel!
