I have a shadow sorcerer concept I've always wanted to play whenever I have the chance to, where the shadow powers come from their high elf mother making a pact with a shadow demon for power, being a warlock who uses her high Charisma and presupposed notions to make people believe she's a wizard. The price was the soul of her firstborn, which she made readily because she didn't want children. Time goes on and she eventually falls in love with a humble but lovable human man, and when it comes to pass that he's bearing his child, things have changed and she realizes she now treasures the child and the thought of giving them up to a demon now suddenly feels like a terrible idea. So she goes back to the demon and begs to reverse the contract, and the demon laughs at her and says that while he'll let her keep the child, he will "be with them, always", which she accepts. Now she has this haunted son who doesn't fit in with the other kids because a dark presence always seems to follow him, and she can't just tell him why because it will out that her entire family is based on lies.
A friend of mine had this changeling moon druid that wasn't exactly a druid but their racial powers were so strong that they could transform into anything alive, so a couple of druids found them and helped they control it a little better They joined our party to understand better the "circle of life and the purpose of everything in the multiverse" and there is no better way to do that than seeing the whole world and helping people It was amazing for if they saw dogs playing, they would just turn into a dog out of a sudden, or in a small misson where a mother lost her daughter and when she was describing her, they were slowly turn into the daughter unconsciously I loved that character 🥰 and the alien was really nostalgic to me, i remembered that campaing
The Glyph sorcerer is a great idea if you want to be Fullmetal Alchemist inspired character, since characters tattoo themselves with transmutation circles all the time to have easy access to their powers.
My shadow sorcerer got her powers from constant exposure to a pair of ghost since she was a kid, these ghost were twins that constantly bothered her to read them stories, they later became my character's patrons when I multiclassed to undead warlock, they would pop over her shoulder to stare angrily at my enemies when I used my form of dread, It was so fun
I had a similar concept of the wish for my storm sorcerer. He was struck by magical lightning. It burned his body and put him into a coma. While in this coma, he would mutter in primordial and crackle with arcane electricity. After a month, he would awaken from his coma better looking and with magical powers. It turns out his grandfather once made a wish from a djinn for his future son to be good looking, powerful, and rich. Time moves differently on the plane of Air and the djinn missed his father, who died when the sorcerer was very young. So just as he's reaching maturity (teens), he gets struck by lightning. He can now hear voices on the wind, teaching him new ways to use his magic. All from a djinn fulfilling a wish from his grandfather. As for the wealth, the djinn figured if he gave him good looks and magic, the money would easily follow. "Because 2 out of 3 ain't bad." (R.I.P. Meatloaf)
*Inbred Sorcerer* isn't the best name but to be fair the *Eugenics Sorcerer* isn't any better. I would of gone with the Dune Reference and called them the *Bene Gesserit Triumph* or just call them *Wonder Child Sorcerer*
I adore the idea of a power being passed down, it's a trope but in the context of a D&D campaign, I can see it being super interesting. The protagonist in the webcomic Gunnerkrigg Court has a similar deal going on, and without going into spoilers, there are a few consequences to the fact that the power is passed down. On the other end, I do love the idea of sorceror's powers being a recent event. A farmhand accudentally falls into the shadowfell, when they get back, Shadow magic. A fisherman gets caught in a storm giant battle, storm magic. I like the "well what do I do NOW?" story element to it. One of my players got her Draconic sorcery when a white dragon gave it to her after it devoured her Triton tribe. His plan was to give these powers to a few, knowing they would growing power and then seek vengeance, so he could later absorb it. So maybe another idea would be a sorceror who gets their power as part of a more powerful being's plan, good or bad. Building an army for a great evil that is coming, or creating a natural enemy to one of that being's foes.
I would love to play a sorcerer who doesn't realize they are a sorcerer until the first combat encounter. Said sorcerer would have to work through discovering their capabilities and accepting their magic.

L3N1 ( Lot 3, Number 1), or Lenny for short, is a Simic Hybrid Wild Magic Sorcerer who was one of several different projects intended to create arcane artificial life. But, because they was one of the earlier attempts, they and their magic are unstable. I actually selected their spells based on their desires at the time they had the availability, while rolling randomly both to see what spells they replaced on level up and what Simic Hybrid traits they manifested. Played him more of an 8-year-old in an adult body, egocentric, curious, impulsive. Got the name idea from my brother playing a similar concept, G30RG3 the Warforged Watcher Paladin, and we decided to pair up our back stories.

So, parsley is the antidote for rat poison. Warfarin is also used as an anticoagulant, and people who consume warfarin for this reason are told to stay away from vitamin K-rich foodstuffs. The reason warfarin is a rat poison is because it's an anticoagulant; it basically makes the rats bleed to death. Atropine (from deadly nightshade) is a lethal poison but is also the antidote for nerve gases such as tabun. The reason for this is that they affect the nervous system in opposite ways, so they cancel each other out. Neither of them is good for you, anyway, and contrary to the way it's depicted on-screen someone who's been exposed to nerve gas and atropine is likely to have severe neurological damage. This is better than someone who's been exposed to nerve gas alone - who is usually just dead - but not by much. Atropine is also used for patients suffering from bradycardia (dangerously low heart rate), due to the fact that it causes the heart to race like mad. One potential negative side effect to administering it to someone suffering from nerve toxin poisoning is that you might just give them a heart attack instead. But then again, nerve toxin. Ethylene glycol (frequently used as antifreeze) is moderately toxic. Its toxicity is mostly due to its metabolites, so the treatment is to saturate the enzyme that breaks it down with ethanol. Usually, it's administered intravenously, but if necessary it can be administered orally (as vodka, whiskey, or another strong spirit). Methanol poisoning is treated in a similar way for similar reasons. Under certain circumstances, alcohol can be a quite effective treatment for radiation poisoning. While not an actual antidote, the alcohol molecules bind the particles of a certain isotope that then leaves the body along with the alcohol via digestion. It works on the same principle as iodine tablets, but when you don't have any at hand, strong vodka will also reduce the effects to some degree. In the wake of the Chernobyl meltdown, vodka fortified with iodine and sold under, among other names, Doktor Vodka became very popular among those who lived near the plant. @@TheClericCorner A certain amount of Truth in Television: many plants are the root source of medicines.note A surprising number of medicines were discovered by either investigating folk cures (some of which actually worked, and some of which did not) or by taking extracts from random plants (you get a bunch of work-study students, you drop them off a mile apart along some backroad with a box of bags, and you tell them "pick up five of everything you see") and running them against various screening tests to see if they did anything (this approach is generally called "Weeds and Seeds" or "Find 'Em and Grind 'Em"). However, in Real Life, they are not Magic Antidotes. Combining the Glyph and Altered a bit, the Transplant: your power comes from an organ, limb, or other body part that was grafted onto your body to replace one you'd lost.
When I visualize a Sorcerer casting a spell I see it as their blood starts glowing with a light, the color depends upon their Bloodlines Origin, making their veins visible and the more powerful the spell they use the more the glow spreads over their body. For example when they cast a Cantrip only their fingers glow but the higher the level the more veins/arteries become visible under their skin until when they cast a 9th level spell and you can see their full cardiovascular system is glowing and they appear to be radiating magic.
For my very first DnD character ever I wanted to play a half-gnome, half-dragonborn (which the DM approved based on the cuteness of the figure I designed in Hero Forge, alone). But instead of a complete newbie mucking about with a custom race I just chose Gnome as her race, and made her a Draconic bloodline sorceror. So she's gnome-sized but with some dragonborn features (she actually looks like a very cute little frog person with horns and a scattering of scales). I try to focus her spells on things that let her make stuff (because she loves tinkering) or lightning attacks because her power comes from a blue dragon ancestor.
In a homebrew campaign I dmed there was an entire country that was trying to artificially make sorcerers. After all if your army has more sorcerers, you have the more powerful army. They would take organs from magical creatures and place them into regular soldiers. The first time the party saw the surgery, it was performed on ten soldiers using dragon organs. Five died as the magic flooding their system overwhelmed them. Two more also died, but returned as undead warlocks- magic stunted and operating weirdly in these now ruined bodies. One became a strange warlock who could summon weapons made of dragon bone (a hexblade). Two sorcerers were made, ones magic wild and chaotic from the foreign organ, and one actually a draconic sorcerer. The party got even more disturbed when they were told this was actually a really good test result.
I just found this channel and I love it! It makes me happy that you pay attention to concepts that could trigger someone or relate to one's mental health, and provide alternatives, like in this video how the glyphs could be on clothing, or in the wizard video that I just watched. 2:50 This is actually a thing already in D&D lore It’s called a spellstitched though it’s typically done to undead in lore rather than still-living people I don’t see any reason you couldn’t do it to a still living person other than just generally gravitating away from it, as it is quite gruesome
The reluctant sorcerer. A mountain dwarf soldier trained in axe and armor like his brothers in arms finds out the stories of his family are true being of the cursed Draeger bloodline of dwarfs cursed with evil magic. Do to repressing it and hiding has caused it to act on its own to kind of help him and being uncontrolled it also has the wild magic qualities rather then pulling on the controlled weave
I randomly had an idea for a sorcerer concept when I was playing Far Cry 5 (remembering [what I thought of putting in] a comment of mine in the "thoughts on reflavoring spells" community post, and V in Devil May Cry 5). Behold... The Summoner! Basically, the sorcerer has a number of summons whose only mechanical purpose is to replicate the effects of their spells (naturally, their effects get resisted in the same way as spells). Meta-magic could also be explained by this (careful spell being the summon being "careful" with its power, transmute spell being different elemental summons with similar powers, etc.). Note: this concept could be applied to all casters (full, half, and quarter), sorcerer is just the first to come to mind with it.
The sorcerer I was using die, so I had to use another one, the idea I came was pretty similar to the exposed sorcerer you gave so: A red adult dragon attacked a small village, taking all the treasure before destroying said village, this 15 year old boy name, kuro (trademark name I use in every roleplay game I play) was tasked with protecting the vault this treasure was, and since the dragon took the entire vault, it took kuro too, after that the dragon took care of kuro because he considered it part of his hoard, kuro then started fighting the dragon in revenge of his lost village, but unnoticed to the boy, he started absorbing the soul and levels of the dragon (this was an excuse to have this new character to level 15, the level of the group) when the party group arrived to kill this dragon (mission given for a survivor of the village) they see kuro killing the dragon after some years of pure fighting.
To be honest, I didn't really plan on coming up with a story for where I got my Shadow Magic Sorcery from, although it was my first campaign. But having to expand my backstory to give my character some drive for being with my party in the first place, had spiraled me down to this neat little story for my Magic. The idea is that my soul fused with a giant Raven of death made of pure dark magic. That Raven just so happened to be wreaking havoc in the feywild at the time and now the higher deities of the feywild are seeking this Raven to sentence it for its divine crimes. Unfortunately, that Raven no longer exists, all that's left is an unnatural amalgamation of two completely different things that can't separate itself as one or the other. Nevertheless, the fusion of a soul and a creature of lethal phenomenon, seem to generate more powerful magic than usual.
Heirloom sorceror potentials ganging uo to take out your ancient ancestor who tefuses to die or hand it on, just keeps having more children and grandchildren and pitting you against each other. i.e. Walder Frey

Blue/Bronze Draconic Sorcerer reflavored as a monk :) This Sorcerer is focused mainly on using Shocking Grasp in combat as a type of Chidori unarmed strike (Naruto fans will understand) is a member of Draconic Ascension martial arts sect. Tattooed in a yakuza fashion with blue/bronze draconic scales. Through Story as those character levels up, he earns more tattoos added to his skin. Thoughts?
I have a charater who was a sailor dragon born. She didn't unlock her powers till she fell into the sea right when an aboleth was underthe ship but instead of killing her it gave her aberent powers making her an aberent mind sorcerer as she never sees the aboleth again. Her goal is to find out why this happened. Was it fate or something more.
The Heirloom Sorcerer gives me an idea for Dorothy Gale in my Once Upon A Time-Inspired Dungeons & Dragons Story (Which I might not come back to just yet) where the Silver Slippers that originally belonged to the Wicked Witch of the East chose Dorothy, giving her Storm Powers, to become the Savior of the Land of Oz.

A few Bloodlines I want Celestial - you have an angelic or other Celestial entity ancestor from or was born in one of the seven upper Planes. Aasimars could have this. Fiend - you have a devil, demon, or other Fiendish entity ancestor from or was born in one of the seven lower planes. Tieflings could have this. Fey - you have a Fey ancestor or were born in the Feywild. Satyrs, Fairies, Eladrin, Firbolg, Hexbloods, Changelings, Centaurs, and other Fey races could have this. Undead- you have a lich, vampire, or other undead ancestor, or maybe one of your parents was possessed by a ghost during your conception leaving the taint of undeath on you. Dhamphir, Reborn, Revenant, and such would have this. Arcane - you come from a long line of wizards and arcane magic awakened in you Elemental Earth - you have a connection to the Elemental Plane of Earth. Earth Genasi would have this Elemental Fire - you have a connection to the Elemental Plane of Fire. Fire Genasi would have this Elemental Air - you have a connection to the Elemental Plane of Air. Air Genasi and Aarakocra would have this Elemental Water - you have a connection to the Elemental Plane of Water. Water Genasi, Triton, Sea Elves,
@@TheClericCorner it's a 3rd party alternate magic system for 5e D&D (they also have a martial version, Spheres of Might) that allows you to pick not only how a character learned magic, but the ability score they use and the kind of magic they know. My favorite examples are a Sorcerer that has to draw runes, a wizard that can heal, and a paladin/cleric that controls the weather. I generally refer to it as Lego Casting, since you need a base and then typically build off that. They have a website up that has ALL of their content too so you can check it all out for free.
Sorcerers: The Conduit: You are not a spell caster. You are a magical battery that other casters use. Only a handful of spells can be cast through you. It takes a Magic user to unleash this power. On your turn, other player characters dictate what spells you will cast. Whenever it is your turn, you discuss with players what spells should be cast. This could be for a beginner to D&D who is trying out a spell caster for the first time... The Dancer: Another spell caster who can't cast spells. Yes. The Dancer is someone who comes from a long lineage of dancers. Their complex dance routines encourages a magical spirit to send forth magical effects. The Fool: This Sorcerer is in a world where magic is banned. As such they are skilled at making spells look like alchemy. Throw in some clumsiness and a daft way of talking all to hide the fact that you are a spell caster in disguise. Society will laugh at you and will underestimate your true power. The Ninja: Continuing the theme of a Sorcerer who cannot cast spells, this individual is a ninja. They are a Shadow Sorcerer who perform various martial feats that look like magic. Think of a stage magician with sleight of hand combined with ninjitsu. You look like a spell caster but you are faking it.

While not an actual antidote, the alcohol molecules bind the particles of a certain isotope that then leaves the body along with the alcohol via digestion. It works on the same principle as iodine tablets, but when you don't have any at hand, strong vodka will also reduce the effects to some degree. In the wake of the Chernobyl meltdown, vodka fortified with iodine and sold under, among other names, Doktor Vodka became very popular among those who lived near the plant.
Alcohol and caffeine are both used to purge tritium (radioactive hydrogen) contamination because they are diuretics. At least one lab working with tritium used to keep a can of beer in a lab fridge labelled "tritium decontamination kit". Before the discovery of vitamins, fresh foods (especially citrus) were a cure for scurvy and other deficiencies often found in sailors. How bizarre this appeared to the people of the time can't be overstated. Today scurvy is a bit of a joke, but at the time it was a terrifying, horrible way to die, bleeding from every orifice, and nobody knew how to stop it. And then the solution turns out to be lemon juice (or oranges, or limes, but lemons have the highest vitamin-C-per-volume). It's a bit like finding out you can cure ebola by eating blueberry muffins. It was so insane that while James Lind discovered and published the cure in 1753, the British Royal Navy didn't actually start carrying citrus on their ships until just before 1800.
Strychnine is a well-known (and fairly dramatic) poison famously used in The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie. Curare was once used to make poisoned arrows and darts that caused almost instant paralysis. But the effects of the poisons are opposite so that either one can act as the other's antidote.

Many healing drinks and salves are mentioned in the Renaissance-era text, "Culpeper's Complete Herbal". While not as fast or flashy as their fictional counterparts, the plants involved (blackberry and clown's woundwort, to name two) have been found to contain a chemical that speeds up cell replacement.
@@TheClericCorner A certain amount of Truth in Television: many plants are the root source of medicines.note A surprising number of medicines were discovered by either investigating folk cures (some of which actually worked, and some of which did not) or by taking extracts from random plants (you get a bunch of work-study students, you drop them off a mile apart along some backroad with a box of bags, and you tell them "pick up five of everything you see") and running them against various screening tests to see if they did anything (this approach is generally called "Weeds and Seeds" or "Find 'Em and Grind 'Em"). When I visualize a Sorcerer casting a spell I see it as their blood starts glowing with a light, the color depends upon their Bloodlines Origin, making their veins visible and the more powerful the spell they use the more the glow spreads over their body. For example when they cast a Cantrip only their fingers glow but the higher the level the more veins/arteries become visible under their skin until when they cast a 9th level spell and you can see their full cardiovascular system is glowing and they appear to be radiating magic.

For my very first DnD character ever I wanted to play a half-gnome, half-dragonborn (which the DM approved based on the cuteness of the figure I designed in Hero Forge, alone). But instead of a complete newbie mucking about with a custom race I just chose Gnome as her race, and made her a Draconic bloodline sorceror.
So she's gnome-sized but with some dragonborn features (she actually looks like a very cute little frog person with horns and a scattering of scales).
I try to focus her spells on things that let her make stuff (because she loves tinkering) or lightning attacks because her power comes from a blue dragon ancestor.
In a homebrew campaign I dmed there was an entire country that was trying to artificially make sorcerers. After all if your army has more sorcerers, you have the more powerful army. They would take organs from magical creatures and place them into regular soldiers.
The first time the party saw the surgery, it was performed on ten soldiers using dragon organs. Five died as the magic flooding their system overwhelmed them. Two more also died, but returned as undead warlocks- magic stunted and operating weirdly in these now ruined bodies. One became a strange warlock who could summon weapons made of dragon bone (a hexblade). Two sorcerers were made, ones magic wild and chaotic from the foreign organ, and one actually a draconic sorcerer. The party got even more disturbed when they were told this was actually a really good test result.

It’s called a spellstitched though it’s typically done to undead in lore rather than still-living people
I don’t see any reason you couldn’t do it to a still living person other than just generally gravitating away from it, as it is quite gruesome
The reluctant sorcerer. A mountain dwarf soldier trained in axe and armor like his brothers in arms finds out the stories of his family are true being of the cursed Draeger bloodline of dwarfs cursed with evil magic. Do to repressing it and hiding has caused it to act on its own to kind of help him and being uncontrolled it also has the wild magic qualities rather then pulling on the controlled weave

I randomly had an idea for a sorcerer concept when I was playing Far Cry 5 (remembering [what I thought of putting in] a comment of mine in the "thoughts on reflavoring spells" community post, and V in Devil May Cry 5). Behold... The Summoner!
Basically, the sorcerer has a number of summons whose only mechanical purpose is to replicate the effects of their spells (naturally, their effects get resisted in the same way as spells). Meta-magic could also be explained by this (careful spell being the summon being "careful" with its power, transmute spell being different elemental summons with similar powers, etc.).
Note: this concept could be applied to all casters (full, half, and quarter), sorcerer is just the first to come to mind with it.

The sorcerer I was using die, so I had to use another one, the idea I came was pretty similar to the exposed sorcerer you gave so:
A red adult dragon attacked a small village, taking all the treasure before destroying said village, this 15 year old boy name, kuro (trademark name I use in every roleplay game I play) was tasked with protecting the vault this treasure was, and since the dragon took the entire vault, it took kuro too, after that the dragon took care of kuro because he considered it part of his hoard, kuro then started fighting the dragon in revenge of his lost village, but unnoticed to the boy, he started absorbing the soul and levels of the dragon (this was an excuse to have this new character to level 15, the level of the group) when the party group arrived to kill this dragon (mission given for a survivor of the village) they see kuro killing the dragon after some years of pure fighting.
My sorcerer had the blood line of a mind flare having the capability to manipulate the minds of there enimes or to easy persuade
To be honest, I didn't really plan on coming up with a story for where I got my Shadow Magic Sorcery from, although it was my first campaign.
But having to expand my backstory to give my character some drive for being with my party in the first place, had spiraled me down to this neat little story for my Magic.
The idea is that my soul fused with a giant Raven of death made of pure dark magic. That Raven just so happened to be wreaking havoc in the feywild at the time and now the higher deities of the feywild are seeking this Raven to sentence it for its divine crimes. Unfortunately, that Raven no longer exists, all that's left is an unnatural amalgamation of two completely different things that can't separate itself as one or the other.
Nevertheless, the fusion of a soul and a creature of lethal phenomenon, seem to generate more powerful magic than usual.
Heirloom sorceror potentials ganging uo to take out your ancient ancestor who tefuses to die or hand it on, just keeps having more children and grandchildren and pitting you against each other.

This Sorcerer is focused mainly on using Shocking Grasp in combat as a type of Chidori unarmed strike (Naruto fans will understand) is a member of Draconic Ascension martial arts sect. Tattooed in a yakuza fashion with blue/bronze draconic scales. Through Story as those character levels up, he earns more tattoos added to his skin. Thoughts?

I have a charater who was a sailor dragon born. She didn't unlock her powers till she fell into the sea right when an aboleth was underthe ship but instead of killing her it gave her aberent powers making her an aberent mind sorcerer as she never sees the aboleth again. Her goal is to find out why this happened. Was it fate or something more.

The Heirloom Sorcerer gives me an idea for Dorothy Gale in my Once Upon A Time-Inspired Dungeons & Dragons Story (Which I might not come back to just yet) where the Silver Slippers that originally belonged to the Wicked Witch of the East chose Dorothy, giving her Storm Powers, to become the Savior of the Land of Oz.

A few Bloodlines I want
Celestial - you have an angelic or other Celestial entity ancestor from or was born in one of the seven upper Planes. Aasimars could have this.
Fiend - you have a devil, demon, or other Fiendish entity ancestor from or was born in one of the seven lower planes. Tieflings could have this.
Fey - you have a Fey ancestor or were born in the Feywild. Satyrs, Fairies, Eladrin, Firbolg, Hexbloods, Changelings, Centaurs, and other Fey races could have this.
Undead- you have a lich, vampire, or other undead ancestor, or maybe one of your parents was possessed by a ghost during your conception leaving the taint of undeath on you. Dhamphir, Reborn, Revenant, and such would have this.
Arcane - you come from a long line of wizards and arcane magic awakened in you
Elemental Earth - you have a connection to the Elemental Plane of Earth. Earth Genasi would have this
Elemental Fire - you have a connection to the Elemental Plane of Fire. Fire Genasi would have this

@@TheClericCorner it's a 3rd party alternate magic system for 5e D&D (they also have a martial version, Spheres of Might) that allows you to pick not only how a character learned magic, but the ability score they use and the kind of magic they know.
My favorite examples are a Sorcerer that has to draw runes, a wizard that can heal, and a paladin/cleric that controls the weather.
I generally refer to it as Lego Casting, since you need a base and then typically build off that. They have a website up that has ALL of their content too so you can check it all out for free.
Sorcerers:
The Conduit: You are not a spell caster. You are a magical battery that other casters use. Only a handful of spells can be cast through you. It takes a Magic user to unleash this power. On your turn, other player characters dictate what spells you will cast. Whenever it is your turn, you discuss with players what spells should be cast. This could be for a beginner to D&D who is trying out a spell caster for the first time...
The Dancer: Another spell caster who can't cast spells. Yes. The Dancer is someone who comes from a long lineage of dancers. Their complex dance routines encourages a magical spirit to send forth magical effects.
The Fool: This Sorcerer is in a world where magic is banned. As such they are skilled at making spells look like alchemy. Throw in some clumsiness and a daft way of talking all to hide the fact that you are a spell caster in disguise. Society will laugh at you and will underestimate your true power.
The Ninja: Continuing the theme of a Sorcerer who cannot cast spells, this individual is a ninja. They are a Shadow Sorcerer who perform various martial feats that look like magic. Think of a stage magician with sleight of hand combined with ninjitsu. You look like a spell caster but you are faking it.
