If your having reservations. Mount your windshield. Enjoy. I love riding the back roads. Interstate travel sucks. Unless your truckin. But on your bike, live a little.
Hell, go for it. Your first reaction to a plan is usually the right one. Your buddies want to see the King, they’ve seen all the 24 RGs on UA-cam that they care to. Personally, I’d throw a window on the forks, a net cord in the saddlebag and haul ass.
I rode an 883 Sporty all OVER this country in the 80s a d early 90s. My 1998 Road King had 155k on it when i foolishly got rid of it. My 2007 Road King just crossed 60k miles. In between i put 35k miles on a 2017 M8 Limited when my wife wanted to ride with me for a few years. When she quit, i had zero issues going back to the 2007 RK. Full size touring frame, easy to ride all day, days on end. I run 16 inch bars and Rhinehart's and no windshield... it's a fantastic touring machine without all the added doo dads that i personally didn't care for on the tip of the line M8 Limited. #1 bike in the world for touring...serious, this is true... it's a Honda Cub 125. People travel the entire globe on those things... if it moves ya and moves your soul...it's perfect.
Ive road the Pacific coast highway (650ish) miles 6 times in my life. Last time was on my 03 roadking. I enjoyed it more than doing the ride on my 22RG. Just something about them older roadkings. The sounds. the smells. its awesome
I rode coast to coast TWICE on my Road King in 2012 & 2013, my King was a 2007 model and I did the trip 2 up. First trip was Tampa-Nashville-Chicago- Route 66-LA ... Flew home, back 6 months later for second trip Second Trip: LA-Vegas-Zion-Bryce-Monument Valley-4 Corners-Million Dollar Hwy-Pikes Peak-Amerillo-Memphis-Nashville-Tail of the Dragon-Tampa Both trips NO interstate...NO GPS..NO Phone directions...yes we got lost a few times but it was a blast
Do it on the King only suggestion would be to throw the windshield back on to the bike for longer trips. My windshield has the bag attached to it so it gives you some extra storage for some of the smaller items which comes in handy for the longer trips.
I rode my road king classic an 07. From Virginia Beach to Sturgis and back. Also numerous rides back to Iowa from Va. so yes it’s more than capable so when you say it’s not a true touring bike you my friend are wrong!!! Oh and I forgot trips down to Mississippi as well so you must not ride long distances.
It is the same bike. It's just that the Road-Glide has a fairing. Honestly, for an overnight trip, Road King is perfect. For a few nights or longer, I use my Electra-Glide Ultra Classic (with matching trailer) Tip: Quick release windscreen, if winfld buffeting might be an issue for a frail old man like yourself Happy trails, Cowpoke
I loved my 2005 Road King Classic. It wasn’t quick as a bunny, but definitely cool as a cucumber. That big ole’ headlight was awesome. I had fishtail exhaust tips that bought out that nostalgic look. I wish I didn’t trade that bike in, it was definitely my favorite of all my Harley’s. Take the King! 😊
Yeah, take the new Road Glide. As you said, kick back, relax, feet up, watch ya a movie or two while rollin to your destination. Nah, take the Road King. I know you and the King can do it. Who needs all that fancy entertainment stuff in front of you.
You forget, the early iterations of the RK WERE the tour bikes, and everything else.It changed slightly when fairings were fitted, but the RK is a MORE than capable tourer.
Of course mines a 2011 and has cruise control, however highways are nothing on the King. Get you a windshield if the wind bothers you. Will be a great trip on the King!
I wish i had the opportunity to do the same on my 01 road king. I would do it in a hart beat. I love my road king. I would not waiste my hard earned money on that 24 road glide.
I love my 2011 RKC! I ride it every where. Comfy and eats up the road like its no bodies business. They call it a Road King for a reason. M$B will say take the king.
My 2007 Road King was a great Touring Bike until a little old lady turned left in front of me and killed my beautiful King and damaged me pretty good too. However I personally would have taken that bike anywhere, coast to coast, north to south. Even with the windshield, I was pretty tired at the end of a day. If I were in your shoes and wanted to take the King, I would do it on a trip that I wasn’t worried about keeping up with the boys. You have a choice and my choice would be the 24 in this situation. Just my thoughts and opinion.
Good content Bo, thanks. I’ll run solo from SC to Sturgis soon, on 2013 RK Classic with matching seat, backrest, tour pack, and cruise control. Two questions: (1) detach luggage recommendation?, and (2) suspension upgrade reco (type)? I’m 100% stock now. Many thanks!
Hello I was wondering did you change the chain tensioners in your Road King to the hydraulic from the spring tensioner they last a lot longer I was told I have a 2019 Road glade cvo and a 2005 Road King love them both love your video keep them coming GOD bless.
Your trip through Cincinnati sounds like my trip around Chicago on I80. Duck walking a fully loaded bagger in 8 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic is no fun. Not something I’d do again.
Where is your windshield people complain about touring with road Kings but they strip parts off of them lol. just as worthy or even more that’s why they call it. A king baby.
You best lay off the drugs, Ive got a 2001 RK CLASSIC that I've ridden from the Midwest to Yellowstone twice, Sturgis 3 times, and Montanas Glacier National Park . I sent my seats to ALLIGATOR BOB for gel inserts and that's the difference in the world! Montana was 3 days @ 675 miles/ day . Anyway the Kings for sale, big built motor ,lots of extras, dynoed @ 100hp ,set up with gear drive cams for the highway ! $ 8000.00 takes it all,30,000 mi on motor .
I was about to ask, should I be using it more, I have only had it a year but I am probably similar to the previous owner IE: I do not use it very often & shy away from ride outs that are over 10 mile away. My 07 LTD edition Softail only had done 9k when I sold it, I work 60 hrs a week, so I don't get to ride it in the week. Judging by the amount of older harleys that are for sale privately with minimal miles on the clock, I'm guessing their are many like minded people like me ?
Its not a big deal. I have a 2005 Road King, TC 88 with a 6 speed box (thank god). I rode it out to sturgis and back 2 summers ago and did all the rides people talk about. Rode into wyoming and montana. last summer i rode it out to and all around colorado and back from ohio. I must admit that on the interstate I have to run wide open all day long to keep up with my buddies who have much newer milwaukee 8s so the lack of power can be frustrating, i guess. And I have a stock saddle which is pretty brutal. I use one of those air cushions. and yes, of course, the stock suspension is terrible. But my bike has held up, and it is a rebuilt, salvage title road king. The only problem I had on those trips was a snapped return throttle cable. I work hard at keeping my bike maintained, especially before trips. I go over everything. You are gonna put a windscreen on it, though, right? That'd be a deal breaker for me. Ive gotta have that windscreen for those long miles. Now, having said all of this....man...if i had a new road glide in my garage, or my personal fave, an ultra limited, I doubt im taking the king on any more long trips. Im 56. im gonna take comfort where I can find it
I definitely took the comfortable Road Glide on the trip. I do have a windshield for the king but only put it on as it gets a little colder in the year since I really ride it around town mostly
Yeah yankees call it pop. Down here in Texas we call it soda.dont ask me why? I could go on and on about that. Im a michigan transplant as well. Been in Texas since 1969. Originally from Benton Harbor.
Totally made for that. She’s a throughbred. She has bags (& mine has cruise control which is awesome!) doesn’t she? Ride her anywhere you feel like. I love my King.. and don’t get a boat! BOAT means Bring On Another Thousand… find some friends w boats and buy their gas! Much easier boat experience! And don’t EVER go thru Atlanta if you hated Cincinnati… 🤮🤮🤮
@@BoDean52 Be careful and have a great time! Just got back from a 2000 mile Key West run a few weeks ago, going to Gulf shores AL w the family Saturday.
I had a 2000 Road King Classic, too. Loved that bike, and toured all over the U.S. on it. Spun up 75,000 miles before giving it to my nephew, who still rides it. The only problem was that the TC 88, and I punched mine out to 95, wasn't powerful enough for back-to-back, all day, high-speed cruising out West. Interstate speed limits are 75 to 85 miles an hour in many places, and I was beating the heck out of the engine keeping up with guys with newer touring bikes. But other than that type of touring, my 2000 Road King Classic was a beautiful and fun bike to ride.
If your having reservations. Mount your windshield. Enjoy. I love riding the back roads. Interstate travel sucks. Unless your truckin. But on your bike, live a little.
I have driven my 2010 Road King coast to coast. It was fine.
Nice
Nice!

I like it!
Put the windshield back on the King and do it!!!
In 2020 my wife and i did an iron but on a 2018 ultra limited. My son did it with us on a 2003 Road King Classic.
Family riding is awesome

I have "toured" on my old 2013 FLHRC... It doable... Windshileld, highway pegs and cruise control.. it's all good!
At least you had cruise control...LoL I rode from Atlanta, Ga to Sturgis and back, in 2015, on a 2009 RK without cruise control...LoL
It is the same bike. It's just that the Road-Glide has a fairing. Honestly, for an overnight trip, Road King is perfect. For a few nights or longer, I use my Electra-Glide Ultra Classic (with matching trailer)

Overnight agree, 7 days not so much
I vote for Road King, something you'll never forget for sure.
My Brother tours on his2009 Road King Classic - he loves it. And since I’m from Michigan it’s pop…
Exactly pop

Yup and have one….
My 2000 road king is by far my most comfortable highway bike but I just trust my 1988 evo Softail more so that is the bike I use for long distance.
What a cool bike to ride in the country,,its on my list for shure,,,hunting for one right now up north canada Quebec,,ride safe budy.
Floor our friends from the north. Good luck on finding one they’re great bikes.
I'd rock my Road King to anywhere. I mean it's my only bike, but still...
Long live the king
I wish i had the opportunity to do the same on my 01 road king. I would do it in a hart beat. I love my road king. I would not waiste my hard earned money on that 24 road glide.
I've ridden Road Kings on a lot of trips. It's simply a hot rod touring motorcycle.
Right on
Rode my 2009 Road King from Atlanta, Ga to Sturgis, SD and back, in 2015. The only thing that was bad, was not having "Cruise control".
I bet!
Ride the King.😎
I love my 2011 RKC! I ride it every where. Comfy and eats up the road like its no bodies business. They call it a Road King for a reason. M$B will say take the king.
Totally agree and it’s nice to see Bogan back
I’m glad the roadkiing is that great for you .. not for me stock that is I need it a backrest and suspension now is good
Works for me because it’s just my runaround bike if I road it for any type of touring and I would definitely have to do something to it
Well my RKC all I got but I most definitely take the new bike, more storage and more comfy, plus bags lock, you not gonna take tools out every night.
I can hear it in your voice. You're taking the road glide lol
You know it
Enjoy your trip Bob whatever you decide to take and say hi to the crew for me. 😎🤙🏻
Will do

You know for me I have used Rick rack bags in the past but for the road king since I do not tour with it, I actually have not done anything
Soda is for baking, pop is a beverage.

Very true
comfort over cool any day
💯
Take the Road King, because that is what I own.
We have great bikes
Do it! 😆
If/when you ride the triple nickel, interested in anyone local tagging along? :)
I appreciate the offer. I just did not get up there on the way out here but definitely ride with you. Next time I hit the triple knuckle.
I know the answer.
If you have Mrs. BoDean in a chase vehicle, then sure, take Duke.
I live 30 miles north of Cincinnati and don’t go near that place. 😂😂😂
May have to go through tomorrow around 10am, hoping it’s decent
@@BoDean52 Shouldn’t be to bad at that time. Ride safe.
