    The loose centre console is most likely where a garage has replaced a handbrake cable (that runs underneath it), and forgotten to refit the Consoles screws, or someone has damaged it.

      It does have automatic light. There's a tiny screw on the headlight switch where you can adjust the mode of the automatic lighting.
      The "heated windscreen" button is of course working. It adjusts the flow of hot air towards the front screen. An electric heated window wouldn't work 14 years after production anyway. Keep it simple and functional! (I suggest you read the owners manual prior to your next video!)

    For me head lights being always on is actually a feature apart from the fact that Volvo and Saab both had to do this because auf Swedish traffic regulations demanding it. You can however turn the beams of while driving and only have the front position lights on. This is handy if the battery is low and you want more energy to go towards charging the battery. In that case though you have to remember to switch the lights off when stopping.
    The rattles and noises are most likely down to the age of the car. You'd need to check if all the clips and screws and padding of the inside panels are still in place.
    You'll get used to the turning circle and once you've tried a Citroen 2VC you won't complain about that any more.
    The only negative I personally agree with is the heated windscreen as this is actually a security issue depending on the weather condition.
    No ski-flap? Seriously? That's what you've got the split folding back seats for... also, for this model it was actually offered as an extra even though you don't really need it with the V70 PII. You do however find the odd V70 having a ski-flap but its rare.

      This is true, also in Finland. We have to drive with at least drl (which these volvos didn't feature) or low beam. So we leave the switch in the "on" position. I find German cars from the same era annoying in Finland because the headlights have to be switched off every time you leave the car.

      I’ve asked around at a Volvo dealer and for some V70 models it was possible to switch the lights to operate manually by changing the software.
      I didn’t want to use to much energy when starting the engine especially in cold winters so switching of would be helpful but then again: a Swedish car should be able to handle that

  • @benjaminmellingen5340

    you are driving around with parking lights. that is what they would be called in Sweden at least and they should only be used while driving in combination with fog lights when visibility is low. They don't turn off because they are sort of a warning light if you need to stop on the side of the road or somewhere you want to be seen while not moving. turn your driving lights on like intended and they will work just fine :=)

    I can agree with the turning circle! Absolutely awful. I drive a V70 sport D5 from the year 2007, and have no problems with the lights staying on what so ever. maybe due to the fact that it is the last model before the P3 platform. Whenever i lock my car everything will turn off and when i leave it on, it automatically turns off all the lights after a short while. So maybe that was an option or only available on later models. However i absolutely love the car and is the best car i have ever owned. :) Love your video's (Y)

    My father has had his v70 for 10 years. (2005 d5) and he finally decided to buy a newer v90 (2018)
    And despite the v90 being a decently larger car, it turns 100x better than a v70 which is mindboggling, driving that v90 through my lil town feels like im cruising in my 940 which are all notorious for their insanely good turning radius.
    But i've heard there is a way to adjust the turning radius on these v70 although i reckon if that is possible, one would also need spacers so the wheels wouldn't eat the inner wheel well wall.

    "Blows cold air on the windscreen" 😆😂 I'm guessing you've never really experienced true freezing temperatures over there? All older cars just blow air but the air turns WARM almost immediately when it's freezing icy temperatures outside, because of the heat from the running engine. It has literally NEVER been a problem on older cars here in Scandinavia where it actually gets cold af in the winter: the air starts heating up the windscreen quite fast, melting whatever ice is on the windscreen (or clearing up the condensation). Sorry but it's a Volvo, there doesn't exist a car brand better suited for icy winters, so the "just cold air" remark made me fall out of my chair laughing. (and sorry if I sound like a smartass, your videos are great though)

    I am surprised to see so many complain about the turning radius. Maybe my 2001 2.4T (regular gas, not diesel) V70 XC is different than the later model years? Cause the turning radius is superb on mine! Also, I'm positive mine blows hot air at the windshield. I've driven it in many snowstorms, I'm sure I would have noticed if it wasn't blowing really hot air all these years I've owned it.

    • @TorqueSteer
      @TorqueSteer  2 роки тому

      Yeah I'm not sure if the petrol versions are better than the diesel. You get used to it but you have to be aware of it. As for the windscreen, it will blow hot air, but Ford's had a heated windscreen (like the rear) which is really excellent but they never stuck the technology onto the Volvo's.

    Bit late with this comment however, I would be totally surprised if any volvo model in any year, did not have a method of blowing warm or hot air up on to the front windscreen or window. Read or check the owners manual when all else fails. That really is a safety issue in colder climates without a doubt. I had a Volvo back in the 70's 142 GT and it had a lot of warm air a blowing, even back then. Just saying.

    Yep. Turning circle is a pain. Apparently you can shorten it by taking off the stops but then the tyres will rub the arches. Split seats, no need for a ski hatch. Rattles...hmm, yes. The shopping tray is a culprit, put sliver of foam under each side. I think the plusses outweigh the negatives though..

    I think when you have A/C on Auto and the 'heated front screen' button pressed, the air circulator switches to 'recirculation' and dry warmed air blows over the windscreen? I bought one recently, partly because of your reviews and I like it a lot. Specially the heated seats in this January weather. I do have a strange vibration from I think the front wheels from 50 onwards and it's not the balancing, I've had that done. As for the ski carrying you can put them on the roof or fold one of the rear seats down - though that does lose you a seat though.

  • @hellospam879879
    @hellospam879879 9 місяців тому

    Yes the light are puzzling. I thought mine had just been programmed wrong or something. There is one thing I do hate. On my 2006 V70 the wires going from the cabin to the rear tailgate through the hinge assembly are destined to break because they form a terrible angle and are repeatedly stressed by opening the tailgate. I consider this just bad design. You will know if this is happening when you start to lose the functioning of the rear wipers and other electrical components. Part of the disgust with this design comes from realizing that the designers wanted the hinge area to look pretty and chose that role over function.

    The turning circle is absolutely shocking, you can't drive right round most mini roundabouts without having to stop and reverse. I replaced my V70 with a Mercedes E class estate. Thanks to rear wheel drive and longitudinal engine mounting, it has a much better turning circle.

    The turning radius is a nightmare on the P2 Volvo's. It's all about tyre width. Just to compare it to the predecessors:
    245: 9.8m
    850: 10.2m
    V70II: 11.9m
    I drive an 850, and I wouldn't call it exactly agile in u turns. And if I would change the 205/50r16 to 17 inch wheels, it would probably be a similar nightmare like the V70. You could try putting smaller wheels on the V70 and get a different steering limiter fitting the smaller tyres. This should improve the turning radius and improve ride comfort.

My other estate is an e61 M5, I actually prefer the D5's engine - I know I can abuse the crap out of it - despite its mega miles - and it won't fail on me nor bankrupt me! - unlike that wonderful S85 which in fairness is 100K ahead of the D5 on 263k miles, I've paid the purchase price again over the years in repairs and maintenance, never mind fuel! :D

    • @AJ-tj7jm
      @AJ-tj7jm 3 роки тому

      The heated screen was made available to jaguar in the 90's so couldn't understand why volvo didn't get it either. However on the X Type at launch it was a £350 optional extra when it was standard on the KA Lux and the Fiesta LX. And Ford could never understand why they could never compete in the luxury car market lol.
      Ford's penny pinching in the late 90's early 00's was laughable, to the point where a 97 Fiesta Ghia X didn't even have a light in the glove box where the 96 Ghia model did.

    With my old v50 if the off position the lights came on as soon as the ignition was on and switched off with the ignition
    In the side lights position all that would come on is the sidelights and stay on whatever, no door tone
    In the main beam position they would only come on and auto off with the ignition.
    So as long as they were not in sidelights you could never leave them on, but they were always on when the car was running and couldn't be turned off

    In Canada we call it a defrost switch. It redirects warm air from the engine cooling system. It starts to work as the engine warms up. If yours isn't working you have a fault with the car. More serious to me is the lack of provision for fitting an engine block heater. Valuable in a cold country like mine.

    Hi Luke I had 59 plate v70 d5 r design premium auto and it never had a heated front windscreen nor did it have xenons which was seriously annoying. Did have a ski hatch though. Also if you like the d5 engine in yours you should definitely try the twin turbo d5 which I had in mine. Made a nice noise and loads of torque as well. The twin turbo d5s have the twin exhausts and had about 210 bhp. 👍

    You really had to dig hard to find those faults. I can live with them as the XC70 I have had so many more positives than negatives. Mine is a P3 and doesn’t have a heated windshield but the screen button puts all the blower power on the screen and it defrosts in no time. The ventilation system is one of my favourite things about it. My 2014 Focus was terrible at clearing the screen and in rain would always fog up. I wish Volvo still made the 70 series as the newer ones aren’t as practical. The ones with less computers are the best. Saying that, my car is 11 years old and has plenty of electronic gadgetry to satisfy me. Only thing I had to do was get a Bluetooth adaptor as the phone worked on Bluetooth but it wouldn’t play music. $16 item from Ugreen solved that and it’s hidden in armrest and connects every time. Sound is awesome with no crackling or interference and I can enjoy my music amd podcasts with no problems. Loving the videos by the way. Don’t mean to be negative but I think you were being a bit harsh.
