- Atop Mt Nebo in Roseburg, OR. on Veterans Day 2014. To honor Vets, I climbed up to Old Glory that waves gallantly on top. The date & time of this video coincidentally just happened to be 11/11 at 1:11 p.m. I had hoped to hear some of the Veterans Day parade downtown, but that had just ended. HDV 0549
Nice view That was more than a year after I left the Roseburg area. My family arrived there in 1852. And I was the last to leave. Though I paid a visit with a couple friends in April 2019. I retired to Costa Rica and frequently visit Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Mountains in North America now seem pitifully small compared to the Andes, the longest mountain range in the world and cresting to over 23,000 feet. Great for mountain bikes as long as going downhill. I am a Vietnam Vet but served there in the biggest chicken outfit in the Army. Signal Corp. USASTRATCOM, 1st Signal Brigade, Long Lines Battalion, Nov 1966-7. Pre-TET.
I often wondered why the city never put a huge flag & pole up there...
Mt Nebo will never be the same without her mountain goats :(
They were a great way to forecast the weather. When they were high on the mountain, good weather was expected. If they came down, then stormy, rainy weather (ie. "low goat pressure") was expected.
Is it legal to go up there? If so which trail?
