Congratulations! My son recently moved to Roseburg for a job with the VA. We are from the east coast, so it was a big move for him. But he absolutely loves it.
There are a lot of great subdivisions and rural neighborhoods in the area. Top of the list for suburban neighborhood would be Hucrest and in the country Melrose. But you’ll find there are many great neighborhoods in the city.
I've driven this section of I-5 many times, and I get a creepy feeling every time driving through Roseburg, and the general area. Can't describe or explain the feeling, it just is. Downtown Roseburg is depressing and a lot of poverty, maybe because it feels like Appalachia, poor and isolated.
Hello! I have a problem (I think...) I'm from Seattle, but have spent the last twenty years in south Texas (lonng story......) I desperately need to get myself back north again. I am 65 and want to be near a VA hospital, and I am trying to decide between Medford and Roseburg. What do you recommend.? Planning my move sometime around late summer/early fall.
Hi Tim! I would say in your case it just depends on what you’re looking for. Medford is a little larger city and closer to California so is a little warmer. Roseburg is a smaller town a bit farther north so usually a little cooler. There is beautiful nature all around both cities. The VA hospital in Roseburg did score higher than the one near Medford, but not by much. The housing market is pretty comparable with prices in Roseburg being slightly less due to the population size. Just like the rest of the country, there is a housing supply issue in both markets so buying can be competitive. Let me know if I can help you out with anything else!
@@LivingUmpqua ---> Hey, thanks! Got any info on rental housing? I'm too old to think about buying. Just a cheap house wud be ideal. I can't do apartments. I lived on 250 acres - utterly alone - so you might imagine my mindset. I have the phone numbers of a couple of realtors, but I just thot I'd see if you can point me anywhere else. Thanks again!! 👌😁 PS - Love the banjo at about 8 mins in.
@@MrDANGitall If you’re thinking rentals, you may have better luck with good rental units in Medford just based on inventory. There are some good rentals homes here as well, but not quite as many. Happy to help and good luck!
@@LivingUmpqua ---> OK, thanks. Good to know. I shore luv Roseburg, tho. I'll see what Medford has for my sitch, and I'll contact Roseburg realtors too. But if anything pops up, pul-leeze let me know.
Mazel tov on the pregnancy! Can you offer advice on neighborhoods to live in? I have an opportunity with the VA and want to live close by. Also, how is the downtown situated for pedestrian and bicycling? Thanks for any info.
Welcome Evan! Hucrest is a great little neighborhood and very close to the VA. The nice thing about Roseburg is traffic isn’t usually a concern, so a lot of the neighborhoods should suit your needs as far as being close. Downtown is great for pedestrian and biking! There are also many bike trails through the area in general that tie a lot of the neighborhoods together. Good luck and welcome to southern Oregon! It’s a peaceful and beautiful place to live 😊
Congratulations!

That's great Mary! I'm glad that he enjoys it here! Welcome to Oregon!
I may be doing the same, what are some good areas to live in?
