That could technically happen BUT, black holes emit radiation and depending on their mass, it could have different effects. The smaller the black hole, the "higher" the amount of radiation is gonna emit, consuming itself to a point where it could disappear
Could you elaborate on this? I’ve never heard that smaller black holes radiate faster than giant black holes. (Not saying you’re wrong, just very interested) My understanding was that the radiation that causes black holes to shrink was hawking radiation, but with hawking radiation the larger the surface area of the event horizon the more it would radiate. Also, it’s only the size of a grain of sand but in order for it to radiate out of existence, it would need to radiate the same amount of energy that’s stored in the mass of the moon. Meaning, with E=MC^2 showing that there is extremely high amounts of energy stored in mass, this would still take a very very long time. As hawking radiation deals with the concept of digital particles, meaning black holes radiate like one quark at a time.
@@eliyarrows2456 I got the explanation from a Spanish physicist and tbh I don't have much knowledge about it. If you wait a couple of years for me to start and finish uni then we might have a great conversation on that 🤣🤣🤣
They don’t “emit” radiation. Hawking radiation theoretically occurs when particle-antiparticle pairs spontaneously pop into existence along the boundary of the event horizon, with one of the two being sucked down towards the singularity before they could mutually annihilate, as would happen in normal space. However, this effect would be vanishingly tiny, and essentially undetectable except over VERY long enough timeframe (many orders of magnitude beyond the current age of the universe). The more common radiation danger in the environment around a black hole is caused by matter spinning in an accretion disc that forms when a substantial mass becomes ensnared by the black hole’s gravity, and gets spun up to relativistic speeds, emitting all sorts of spicy particles and energy, but for a Lunar-mass black hole it’s unlikely that substantial enough material would ever be sucked in at once.

The black hole would “start eating”. It would only “eat” asteroids and such that would fly very close to it. The reason is that the black hole would still only have the same gravitational pull as the when the moon had its normal size, if you are measuring from some distance. The difference is that all of the moons mass is now concentrated in a very small space so now the same gravitational pull is pulling from that small space.
