Hey Delali, First of all, thanks a lot for this informative video. I wanted to know, "Does it work as a repeater mode or access point mode ?" I mean, does it have its own DHCP server or IP assignment is handled by the main router? My objective is to create Access point and manage devices connected to it from this access point only, not the main router. The main router should show this extender connected to it, not all the devices connected to this extender. Thanks again
Your welcome buddy. It works as repeater but its actually an access point to your actual Wi-Fi router. I believe it has its own DHCP independent of the routers' Managing devices solely on the ESP may be tricky as the software/firmware isn't very flexible or have many options available. Happy new year buddy.

I just use it for the occasions when there are no Linux versions of Arduino-type tools available. I am sure you could find a cheap laptop too...maybe from a thrift store?

is it worth it? from 32mbps to 2 mbps.. it drops significaly,, yes it ca extend but if you have reach for example 3 users using the extender it will suffer
It depends on what you use the repeater for and how many people are connected to it I guess. But I agree 32mbps to 2mbps is too much. However its okay for connecting DIY IoT projects

i have a esp12s, the myap network doesnt show up. Any idea why this is happening? I followed every step but when i click "start" the green bar doesnt appear and change from "downloading" to "Finish" in about five seconds. What could it be?
Perhaps the firmware is not written correctly to your esp. delete the flash tool and all files associated. flash your esp with the original esp firmware and then try the process in the video again. maybe something went wrong the first time
It depends on the device you connect to the network or what your are doing. I easily played clash of clans while connected to the repeater and I could also watch UA-cam videos even though I had to wait a little for loading.
Will this work if the network I want to connect to is an open network? ( ie, I need to sign in with my credentials in the login page after connection to the open network)

Cool video, can the flash be executed on linux?
Unfortunately not because their website only has the windows version up there.
To the best of my knowledge.

Hey Brian, I mainly use Linux also but i keep a spare old laptop i got from Ebay for $20 with Win10 flashed on it which is free for an unregistered version. I just use it for the occasions when there are no Linux versions of Arduino-type tools available. I am sure you could find a cheap laptop too...maybe from a thrift store?
@@englishrupe01 Thanks for the tip fam. I really appreciate you taking the time to leave this comment.

will all of the devices connected to the nodemcu be in the same lan as the main wifi router ?
Yes fam.
So any resource on this network can be accessed by all connected devices in the network.
If nodemcu does not show constant led light after flashing or MyAP does not show up...try DIO mode
Thanks for the insight Sayan. Cheers!!
Can I still add a sketch, like adding sensors, after doing this?
Unfortunately no, to the best of my knowledge. Uploading sensor code may wipe the code that makes the Wi-Fi repeater part work.

How can you download the flash tool if you have a Mac? Great vid though!
I havent tried this on a Mac unfortunately, i am only aware of the windows approach.
I am new to your channel and i already subscribe. I had a problem a while ago while following your video. the esp8266 can't recognized the port number when i inserted to my laptop. can your help me what to do or give me a link what to download so that i can continue the project. Thanks and Gob bless
Thanks for getting in touch. If you can't see your port its usually because the UART chip on your ESP board driver is not installed.
Go to the link below, download the CP210X and CH341 drivers and install them. Am not sure which one of the two chips your ESP got but one of them will work for you.

how would i do this with a ESP8266 esp-01s borad
I believe the firmware is just available for ESP8266 12E and ESP32....
I dont think this would work on esp-01s but in order to flash you'd need an FTDI to interface with the esp-01 to be able to flash
hi sir , i have done for the flashtool . but wifi myAp doesn’t appear . can you help me ?
Kindly unplug the ESP and plug it back. You need to do that after flashing.
Also If your wifi SSID is a whole paragraph then use %20 instead of spaces and same goes for when you want to name the NODEMCU WIFI with spaces.
Perfect. Thanks for the insight.
Merry Christmas and happy new year in advance. Cheers!!
@@Delali hey.. thanks for the tutorial… I am planning to buy an esp8266 for an iot microwave sensor based motion detector…. But after digging I have found that there are more things to do with an esp… I was thinking to order 2 to 3..
Do you have any recommendations… also I live in India so I can’t buy from internationally based shops
Hello, how many device can connect to this esp8266 repeater? Is it possible for 10 device?
I cant say for sure because I haven't tried 10 myself. I've only ever connected 2 devices (my phone and pc).
@@Delali I've tried this, 7 devices max.

After doing the process in your video. Does it work even if it's removed or not connected to a laptop?
no
Yes, it worked for me. I connected it to a USB charger.
when repluging the node
its blink blink bliink and stop
but flashed without any errors
I hope it worked atleast. Were you able to connect and use it?
i did exact the way u mentioned but after flashing i the board did not flash blue light and the board did not turn on wifi
Just a suggestion, can you turn off your windows defender? reinstall the tools and try the process all over again? Please note that i did not make the tools or resources used in the video and cant vouche for them. Kindly do your own research and take caution.
I noticed sometimes windows defender messes with the flashing tool and its dependencies. In other cases i "think" some users maybe using different variants of the esp8266 leading to these issues.
Nice one. Thanks. I have tried it and found the signal increased and could work with laptop setting it as metered connection. In Mobile it shows connected but no internet. Is there any solution? Thanks in advance...
Thanks for reaching out brother, I'm not sure why it doesn't show internet connection on mobile.
Can you please check to be sure the internet from the main router itself is good enough?
is it worth it? from 32mbps to 2 mbps.. it drops significaly,, yes it ca extend but if you have reach for example 3 users using the extender it will suffer
It depends on what you use the repeater for and how many people are connected to it I guess. But I agree 32mbps to 2mbps is too much. However its okay for connecting DIY IoT projects
i have nodmcu followed your procedure i can see ssid but cant connect it
led flashes during connection but neither my laptop nor android gets ip

i have a esp12s, the myap network doesnt show up. Any idea why this is happening? I followed every step but when i click "start" the green bar doesnt appear and change from "downloading" to "Finish" in about five seconds. What could it be?
Perhaps the firmware is not written correctly to your esp. delete the flash tool and all files associated. flash your esp with the original esp firmware and then try the process in the video again. maybe something went wrong the first time
Nodemcu what version are you using?
version 1.0
30 mbps to 2 mbps almost %90 speed loss. It seems not very suitable to use as a wifi extender, right?
It depends on the device you connect to the network or what your are doing.
I easily played clash of clans while connected to the repeater and I could also watch UA-cam videos even though I had to wait a little for loading.
Will this work if the network I want to connect to is an open network? ( ie, I need to sign in with my credentials in the login page after connection to the open network)
If its an open network that doesnt require any further steps to enable internet connection, then i believe it should work
great tutorial man
Glad you liked it!

Man but what if I have to undo this? Can I flash any program over it to get it back like normal? Pls reply
Yes you can flash with chip with an empty Arduino sketch.
will the nodemcu work after updating the firmware just like before
or will have download another firmware for It pls reply
It will work just like before. You need to flash an empty sketch.
Which node mcu is best lolin /America
I can't say for sure but Lolin is okay.
You can also see the video description for links to where to buy.
hello bro, my main router name has space in it so how should i write it in ssid??
If your router name is for example "Delali Ghana" write is as "Delali%20Ghana" in your ESP configuration interface. So add %20 in place of the space.

if i do some adjustments on the files, how can i built it ?
I'm not sure how you'd make the adjustments on the files, seeing that they are binary files. However if you do, I'm quite convinced you should be able to rebuild.

YES ITSWORK,BUT why so slower
Glad it does.
I believe its slower because its antenna and has small overall hardware capabilities. Perhaps an ESP with dedicated antenna might be better.

when I connect nodemcu to pc light blinks but not shown in device manager and I tried to install drivers still it is not showing in device manager
Which USB chip does your Node MCU have? CH340? OR CP21XX?
I follow your all step. then i configure my nodemcu repeater. but problem is i see repeater is no internet connection. please help to solve my problem.
If the internet content of the WiFi you are trying to repeat isn't very good, the repeater would appear to have no internet access.
Hey! When i open the flasher tool and select the esp 8266 its saying missing IDLE_S.bmp?????why?
try deleting the flash tool and its entire folder. Download a fresh copy from the espressif website here www.espressif.com/en/support/download/other-tools
can you tell how to do this in kali
Unfortunately not. I think the flash tool is for windows.
Everything is working but at the end, when it starts working as a repeater it is showing no internet connected?... please help me... it's not working properly...i have tried several times.
In my tests, i noticed the router whose network you're trying to repeat must have good interent. else the repeater doesnt work work
@Delali thank you for your response 😊
Hi, i followed everything, it works but the signal is week. with same distance from my router i got 60mbps for my internet but only get 3mbps using node mcu
Yh it appears to have a weak signal and mbps on the esp is also very low but when you actually connect to the esp and stream or do something on the internet its quite decent - as i demonstrated toward the end of this video. Also the esp is a small under 5 USD board so its not as great as a professional or customer grade repeater.
I have tried other programs with the same esp. Worked quite well, when placed away from the router too. Please let me know if any improvement in code can help.
Impressive features is to have a web interface and option to customise the user credentials. Awesome.
Liked your total presentation and idea
I got out
1.5 / 1.6 upload/download.
so 15mbit?? cant see it happening
You can get one of those esp's with dedicated antenna's. That might improve things a bit.
Node mcu Repeater range metre ?
< 10 meters indoors. even less if there are more walls
I did everything like you but even after connecting at last it shows no internet connection in my phone? can you help me?
Please make sure the router whose internet you're trying to share is stable or good, else it wont work well.
Awesome, thanks for share
Glad it could be of help. Thanks for watching!

I was not able to flash with tool version 3.9.3. but 3.8.5 was ok.
Im glad it worked for you.
Happy new year fam. Cheers!!
25 dbm means what? How much range ?
dBm or dBmW is a unit of level used to indicate that a power level is expressed in decibels with reference to one milliwatt
It works perfectly fine. I am able to connect my laptop using this repeater, but the problem is I am not able to connect to Android phone. It says "check password and try again". I have entered same SSID and password in laptop where i am able to connect. But in Andoid phone is not able to conect. I tried even only one device (Andoid phone alone) still the problem persist. Can anyone help me.
Thanks for reaching out. I connected using an iPhone as I dont have an Android at the moment. It works fine on the iPhone.
I would try and get my hands on an Android and let you know if I encounter the same issue and how I solved it.
