In the book, what Dorian does to Sibyl is even worse than this. When she falls in love with Dorian, she eventually has a terrible performance at the theater. Dorian is distressed and realizes that his fascination with Sibyl only has to do with her acting. He's been completely corrupted by Lord Henry. Sibyl declares that she doesn't want to act anymore because it doesn't really mean anything to her anymore, she loves Dorian. Dorian suddenly turns cold and basically tells her he doesn't like her anymore and doesn't want to see her again. Sibyl is utterly heartbroken at Dorian's sudden turn. Dorian eventually comes back to his senses and realizes he's made a terrible mistake, but by the time he tries to go and profess his love to Sibyl he founds out she has committed suicide. That's when one of the last bits of good he had left vanishes. Lord Henry finds a great sense of satisfaction in Sibyl's death and equates it to some kind of theatrical performance. The whole thing is very twisted and dark.

This whole time I didn't realize that until the video ended 😂😂😂😂 I was like this is Dorian's original origin from League of extraordinary gentlemen 🙆🏿♂️
All the characters in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" came from famous books. Wilhelmina Harker, Dorian Grey, Tom Sawyer, Jekyll and Hyde, Professor Moriarty, Captain Nemo, Allan Quartermain, etc.
It just shows you there are a lot of people that will come into your life under the false guise of being helpful/friend. With the true intention only to be detrimental to your life. Henry was miserable and as the old expression goes "misery loves company".
I've always wondered if the final "end" or death of Dorian Gray was actually just him getting trapped in the portrait forever... Forever young and looking on as everyone else withers away
He died from anything he should have been suffering sooner if it wasnt for his curse and his picture gained back the immortallity of Dorians young image.
Sibyl jumping in the river while she was playing Ophelia in the play was foreshadowing by itself we knew that Dorian/ Henry would be toxic and it was foreshadowing of who he was
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” I always remind myself this quote from the Bible whenever I find myself drifting into hedonism.
Fun Fact: Theres a real historical supposed immortal like dorian grey that was said to never age. He would come to parties decades later and did not age a day. He said he was a master alchemist and achieved the magnum opus of alchemy, the philosophers stone (elixir of life). He was also a master painter, master musician and had absolute top knotch charisma and charm. Even Giacomo Casanova who knew of him was jealous of him. One thing was odd about him though, he did not have relations with women (nikola tesla was the same). He was known as The Comte de Saint Germain or Count of St. Germain. heres a video about him: watch?v=0QvJob0B14U&t=

I think the Devil really screwed up Dorian here. The bargain was: "I'll sell you my soul in exchange for eternal youth". And the Devil was like: "Okay so I'll store your soul in this portrait and whatever damage befalls you either by age or alcohol or drugs or anything will go to the portrait rather than to your body, you'll stay young forever.... but now it's your immortal eternal God-Given Soul that's gonna decay and get damaged in ways that never should've been possible have fun bye". Devil: "Oh and when you die, your soul is still mine, so you better not destroy this thing".
@@michaelcohen9363 The devil screwed up Dorian, he didn't get himself screwed up. Through this "deal" he managed to taint and tarnish the only part of Dorian that was God-given and immortal, his soul.
How do you overcome temptations by indulging in it? 😂😂🤣🤣 He is easily pressured. Everyone is consumed by him. They find bodies quickly. Henry is upset that Dorian is sleeping with his daughter. Dorian however influenced, was still an adult to say no.
I do consider Dorian to be worse than Henry. While Henry is bad for introducing Dorian to his hedonistic lifestyle and ideologies, Dorian quickly embraced them and dismissed all his other friends and their advices for Henry. Dorian also said he would sell his soul without a second thought something that even made Henry a bit concerned. Finally Dorian quickly rushed to murder whenever he faced a problem something that Henry has never done or adviced to do. It's Also worth noting that Henry merely showed Dorian his lifestyle because he probably thought it was a good lifestyle. PS i haven't read the book im only talking about the movie here.
That is a nice interpretation about movie Dorian and movie Henry. Henry may have encouraged Dorian to this life of debauchery but the murder part is all on Dorian. Some toxic friends can give you very bad advices indeed, but in the end you're the only one chosing to follow those advices or not.

Interesting take on the story but I would highly recommend reading the book this movie is based on (the name is: The picture of Dorian Gray) for anyone more interested.
The original magazine version and novel used to have LGBTQ themes and alluded to it. Basil was originally in love with Dorian and worshiped him as a muse. Wilde had to republish it, and even had the original version used as evidence against him at his trial before he was sentenced guilty for “gross indecency” or pretty much for being gay/bisexual. It was a reflection of his own relationship with Alfred Douglas, whose father called for the trial out of revenge of him being in a relationship with his son.
He considered the characters of Basil, Henry, and Dorian to be different versions of himself (who he is, who he wants to be, and who people see him as) and that been my favorite aspect of the story
It more so represents Dorian's redemption in killing himself for his past sins. The more he did wrong and twisted himself the more twisted the painting became. Once Dorian dies and actually regrets his twisted actions and sins the painting depicts him as handsome and innocent again
@@MidkniteXO yes, but the timeframe of 20 years seems a bit short for the legend. It would have been better if he had come back 40 years later, and was dealing with the grand daughter instead.
He's dead. By destroying the Portrait he simply concluded his contract with the Devil, got whatever was left of his soul back, died and likely went to Hell to pay his end of the bargain. Notice how despite the other guy setting it on the fire the portrait didn't really get destroyed until Dorian himself broke it.
The main character is uncannily similar to a villain in a movie I once saw. The villain decomposed rapidly when he saw the painting of him who was dessicated while the painting became seemingly restored becoming young him.
The movie is called the group of extraordinary gentlemen, which is basically the avengers of literary classics, most of the characters are from novels and stuff, and this movie is an adaptation of one of those novels.

Lord Henry is a villain, but not an excuse for Dorian 's behavior. No one can make you do or think anything, if you don' t allow it in your mind. Dorian and only Dorian is fully responsible for everything he did. If he didn't want to be this way, he could have expressed disagreement with lord Henry's words, or he could have simply not paid attention to them, or he could have stopped communicating with him. There are many options.
Watched the League of Extroardinary Gentlemen and wondered what Dorian's backstory was. But to kill Dorian he was too stare at the painting, the painting becomes him all decayed while his youthfulness fused to the painting
The way his photo aka portrait was decaying shows his spirit becoming unbalanced while his outward appearance stayed the same dying on the inside while alive on the outside all the things done to his body, mind, heart and spirit shows in the painting until he rights his wrongs due bringing back balance again after righting all of his wrongs. When he lost his lost that’s when the curse consumed him until he restored himself and the painting
I remember reading a book about this at a school library, the movie and the book had quite a lot in common but parts were missing and some parts were added.
This story has always fascinated me. Then again, I always like the immortal who is sad and tired from the Earth's pleasures, unable to find true happiness.
Who did notice that the portrait's eyes are shining at the end? Dorian's soul is still trapped inside the picture. Dorian Gray is one of the great works of Oscar Wild
Dorian Grey was from a novel by Oscar Wilde. Every character in League of Extraordinary Gentleman is a Character from famous, classic science fiction and phantasy novels. The actor is Prince Caspian from Narnia.
I need to re-read my copy of this book. I think one thing anyone can take away from it is to "know yourself and who you came in with" (ya know that song Free Fall about someone talking to the Devil and bringing up the toxicity in their Iives, mostly their relationships with other people). If you're around toxic people like Dorian then you're bound to be drawn into their b.s. and tainted. They're also the first people to turn around and call you out (after they tainted you and twisted you into a monster like them).
in the original book by Oscar Wilde (Which I highly recommend) he looks at it almost religiously at times but at other times he can't bare to look at it because it's so hideous
This is how old men behave and then get offended when other men do the same to their daughter. This is basically about the consequences of patriarchal indocrination.
Dorian Gray was a character in Sean Connery's last movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen which IMO was actually a pretty awesome movie but sadly got review bombed probably because most audience members just dont tend to like the movies that are actually some of the best.
I don't think it was "review bombed". It just honestly wasn't that good of a movie compared to the source material it was based off of. This was the source of everyone's frustration with it. I was one of the people genuinely excited for that film back when it was originally released, but left feeling incredibly let down. I hope they remake it one day with a better story/plot.
I really enjoyed the movie. That portrait Basil drew was truly astonishing for the movie, a perfect depiction. I really wished the movie: League of Extraordinary Gentleman did sequels on building each and every one of those characters. So much potential which wasn't tapped: including the romantic history between Dorian Grey and the female vampire.
Pretty tragic, he was just a lad who became the reflection of those around him and they all had the audacity to point fingers. At the end is it implied his soul is bound inside the painting? Thanks for another movie! 😂

This whole time I didn't realize that until the video ended 😂😂😂😂 I was like this is Dorian's original origin from League of extraordinary gentlemen 🙆🏿♂️
@LawnGuy, this is true but in that movie Dorian was not able to look at the painting lest he would decay and painting would return to normal.
All the characters in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" came from famous books. Wilhelmina Harker, Dorian Grey, Tom Sawyer, Jekyll and Hyde, Professor Moriarty, Captain Nemo, Allan Quartermain, etc.
I said this as soon as I saw the name 👏🏿👏🏿 also RIP to Sean Connery
yes. But he could not look upon his on painting in that movie, which deviates from the original story, does it not?
It just shows you there are a lot of people that will come into your life under the false guise of being helpful/friend.
With the true intention only to be detrimental to your life. Henry was miserable and as the old expression goes "misery loves company".
Thanks to Henry he could live forever
@@alfredohumberto2222 not worth it

It's sad because Dorian shows remorse and humanity from time to time. He wasn't 100% bad which makes his fate rather tragic.
This is one of my favorite movies. This movie explains why the actor who played Dorian changed his accent in the last Chronicles of Narnia film.
“Pleasure is not the same as happiness” fucking wow 😳
I've always wondered if the final "end" or death of Dorian Gray was actually just him getting trapped in the portrait forever... Forever young and looking on as everyone else withers away
nah, probably fire city
He died from anything he should have been suffering sooner if it wasnt for his curse and his picture gained back the immortallity of Dorians young image.
Sibyl jumping in the river while she was playing Ophelia in the play was foreshadowing by itself we knew that Dorian/ Henry would be toxic and it was foreshadowing of who he was
Ben Barnes was perfect for the role. His portrait is marvelous indeed 😁
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
I always remind myself this quote from the Bible whenever I find myself drifting into hedonism.
Amen brother
This exact quote was also used on the novel.
Celibacy is known to give you "superpowers" like youthful look, charisma, intelligence and vitality. Wasting the semen for a men to often is very harmful. Chinese and vedic science have extensive research on this topic. It's one of the greatest secrects of western society.

The philosophers stone made gold I thought??
"Although the frame has been charred, the image has mysteriously reverted to depict a young and handsome DORIAN GRAY!!" I Love the way you said it. It gets me everytime 🙌🔥
So this is what happens if Prince Caspian leaves Narnia.

I think you missed the point of the movie
@@lizxu322 Yes, he did..
So this man sold his soul to the devil for his handsomeness, no wonder the priest didn't help him.
Imagine storing your infinite youthfulness in just a locked room inside your own house. Rookie mistake.
yea i'd keep that shit locked away in a vault underground in some far away island
Well me fucking some escorts made me experienced enough to not go wild on girls so you earn experience
Same goes with other things
@@jothegreek exactly 💯
I do consider Dorian to be worse than Henry. While Henry is bad for introducing Dorian to his hedonistic lifestyle and ideologies, Dorian quickly embraced them and dismissed all his other friends and their advices for Henry. Dorian also said he would sell his soul without a second thought something that even made Henry a bit concerned. Finally Dorian quickly rushed to murder whenever he faced a problem something that Henry has never done or adviced to do. It's Also worth noting that Henry merely showed Dorian his lifestyle because he probably thought it was a good lifestyle.
PS i haven't read the book im only talking about the movie here.
the road to hell
dorian is just like henry only less of a coward about it
there's no half-sin
That is a nice interpretation about movie Dorian and movie Henry.
Henry may have encouraged Dorian to this life of debauchery but the murder part is all on Dorian.
Some toxic friends can give you very bad advices indeed, but in the end you're the only one chosing to follow those advices or not.

You know seeing this origin really explains Dorian Grey’s betrayal in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I know people don’t like that movie but I greatly enjoy it. Dorian was the only character I didn’t know much about.
i liked this movie too.
Maaan, Basil and Henry are two sides of the same coin--and I love it.
in a nutshell:
henry: "yo dont be compassionate, be ruthless."
dorian: "that doesnt sound right. you sure?"
*years later*
henry: "yo why you ruthless for?"
dorian: "bruh..."
me: 😑
Right, we make decisions based on our experiences.
Our experiences stem from the world we interact with.
What we do is what made us do it.
This is why 2 good friends is better than 100 toxic friends
Interesting take on the story but I would highly recommend reading the book this movie is based on (the name is: The picture of Dorian Gray) for anyone more interested.
Thank you :)
Portrait
@@jothegreek it's picture, at least in the original text.

Question, do you think Dorian is still alive based on the ending? I am guessing it's a way the movie is trying tell u that devil doesn't die.
@@ladymecha8718 but then Henry would be dead and we kinda need Henry to figure out what happened
Read the book, he's dead as a doornail.
That’s…LITERALLY the exact same character.
Calling a piece of classic literature a "drama, fantasy, mystery film" made a piece of me die instantly.
He's talking about film, not a book

This is my favorite rendition of this story. Ben Barnes does an amazing job turning such a beautiful face so ugly by the character's behavior.
Man, Tom Riddle and Dorian Gray would have an everlasting friendship 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lord Henry is a villain, but not an excuse for Dorian 's behavior. No one can make you do or think anything, if you don' t allow it in your mind. Dorian and only Dorian is fully responsible for everything he did. If he didn't want to be this way, he could have expressed disagreement with lord Henry's words, or he could have simply not paid attention to them, or he could have stopped communicating with him. There are many options.
This movie looks like a real downer. From the thumbnail, it looks like Sibyl is the only thing worth seeing.
This movie is pretty damn underrated.
Read the book, you'll be blown away. Greatest novel ever written.
Movie is based on a novel by Oscar Wilde who took reference from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and some other Greek tragedies.
Ben Barnes is and always will be the best choice for DG. Love his performance😘
This story has always fascinated me. Then again, I always like the immortal who is sad and tired from the Earth's pleasures, unable to find true happiness.
How did I know the was Dorian from the title alone
Who did notice that the portrait's eyes are shining at the end? Dorian's soul is still trapped inside the picture.

This was great, then again, anything with Collin Firth is great💕
How man y versions of the story are there? I've heard that Dorian isn't allowed to look at his own painting in order for the curse/spell to work....
in the original book by Oscar Wilde (Which I highly recommend) he looks at it almost religiously at times but at other times he can't bare to look at it because it's so hideous
Ever since I watched league of extraordinary gentlemen, I've always wondered what Dorian 's story was
As Dorian is an unsual name, it always feels like its directed at me.
😂
In the book though Henry had no problem with Dorian even towards the end, he was like you've hit the jackpot!
In reality Lord Henry would have died of syphilis before his daughter grew up. I bet part of the picture's symbolism was about syphilis.
This is how old men behave and then get offended when other men do the same to their daughter. This is basically about the consequences of patriarchal indocrination.
She's in some interesting/great films. "Perfume- the story of a murderer" being one of them.
Dorian Gray was a character in Sean Connery's last movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen which IMO was actually a pretty awesome movie but sadly got review bombed probably because most audience members just dont tend to like the movies that are actually some of the best.
They probably don't even know the characters being referenced.
I also came here after watching clips from the league of extraordinary gentlemen
That's why you have to choose you're company wisely. Henry was like devil whispering horrible things to dorion
Pretty tragic, he was just a lad who became the reflection of those around him and they all had the audacity to point fingers. At the end is it implied his soul is bound inside the painting?
Thanks for another movie! 😂

Setting aside immortality, the story is realistic in the sense that, evil men usually wins in the end.
Very true, but the evil isn’t Dorian at the end of the story (Atleast in the book) lord Henry is the antagonist in the morality sense, due to his bad influence upon the naive Dorian, And you are right about evil men always upon the throne at the end, due to Henry not having a scratch at the end and Dorian (who changed his improper ways) the one to fatally die.
Henry is the Devil. I am still missing the part when Dorian trades his soul.
