Barry is maybe my favorite comedy show of all time and i'm so glad y'all got to come on this journey with the girls :) love you guys and hope to see you for The Bear next week!
I wonder if one of the guys in Cousineau's office was supposed to be him? I know one of them is Ryan Madison and the bald one is obviously Hank. Certainly no mention of The Raven though 😆
There's an interview with Bill Hader about the last episode and he talks about how the editing team pranked him. He was watching the cut of the final scene with Fuches and when Fuches walks back into the darkness, they added the sounds of a bunch of crows/ravens 🤣
Fuches delivered the shows thesis imo. The characters who accepted who they are/were (Fuches & Sally) survived…. Barry but it was too late. Hank, Gene, Barry didn’t and therefore suffered the consequences. The movie shows the cycle of denial continuing with John.
It's not clear whether John is in denial or is ignorant. Sally's behavior and some of the things said while he was a hostage would be hard to explain, but the official story that blames Gene fills in a lot of blanks and is backed up by sources he'd consider authoritative. Gene's own son believes it. I think the theme is that people saw what they wanted to see when they looked at Barry, and that continued even after his death.
@@CrazyHorseInvincible definitely can’t know for sure but that’s how I interpreted John’s last scene there. It just makes sense to me that a kid would prefer to have an image of his father where he was a hero than a villain, regardless of what his mom may tell him. A mom that was always more distant. @@bigpictureguys8415 I'm sure he prefers it. I don't know how much Sally would have told him. The actress playing Sally told Rolling Stone she wanted Sally to end up being as morally ambiguous as Barry. When her son says, "I love you" at the end, the actress points out that she doesn't respond with "I love you, too" but a question about whether he liked the play.

I know a lot of people thought Gene made a dumb decision but I kind of like that he reached a point where he genuinely didn’t care what other people thought about him and just did what he thought was right.
He never should have told the fake agent who recorded him that Barry was a sympathetic soul desperate for a father figure, just to get Daniel Day Lewis to play him in a movie. Because that recording is what sealed the narrative that he manipulated a soldier with PTSD.
It's been a fun ride watching it with you two! Thank you to you both and Chad for giving us new Barry fans someone to watch it with when not all of us have friends that are into the same things as us, cheers 🥂 and on to the next series
Its not true that they are only making barry look good because he is military. There are plenty of Military flicks that make military members look like trash. Its more about the narrative of the story that ended with Gene being the mastermind and barry was considered an innocent. If we believe that sally never said anything then, they never find out he was a hitman because they think gene is a liar anyway.
I think a theme in the finale is 'accepting your nature'. Those who were able to accept themselves got relatively happy endings. Fuches admitted he was a heartless POS and was able to quietly disappear into the darkness (To the point he isn't even shown in the movie). Sally is able to go back into theater and give her son a more relatively normal life. Even Barry, who realized at the end he was trash, accepted he should confess and because of that he's remembered fondly. Noho Hand and Gene weren't able to come to terms with themselves and paid the price for it. NoHo hand being shot, and Gene taking the fall for Barry.
I don't think it's an acceptance of "your nature". I think it's an acceptance of who you are in the moment and wanting to change for the better. It's an acceptance of your failings and working to improve those failings despite what "your nature" pushes you to do.
Yeah, I think this show is all about the false stories we tell ourselves to get through life ... and how Hollywood shapes and warps those stories. John wants to believe his father was a hero (even if he knows the movie got "a few details" wrong)
Is it really denial if this is the only story he knows? That would be ignorance, because he doesn't know the truth. And you can't deny the truth you don't know.
I've always loved the way this show did violence. The way it's pretty matter of fact, (fairly) realistic, the way it's shot and edited... I love it. Feels pretty no-BS. Seeing the stylized, over the top way the violence was done in "The Mask Collector" (the movie was called this cuz Gene said that the art of acting was like collecting and wearing masks) made me just appreciate the show's style of violence even more. Don't get me wrong, I love a good action movie with over the top violence and all. But prob my favorite tone of violence is the matter of fact way, and Barry does it just right.
Yeah, when the motorcyclist drove onto the roof of the dealership and shot into a crowd without hitting anyone, and the dealer said, "not today" and then shot him, I thought "this is so true to life."
Going to really miss watching your reactions, would love to see a sendoff video to Barry, gathering thoughts, questions and ideas but favourite moments
I loved this show when i watched it. Bill Hader is amazing and the actor who played Noho Hank was a revelation! It was a great time rewatching along with you both. Thank you for doing this show!
I saw an honest to God comment (under a clip of Barry and John's reunion) talking about how Barry was redeemed in his final moments, and how glad the commenter was that he found God in the last years of his life. And I was ASTOUNDED at this sheer inability to comprehend what the show was doing with religion (It is not critiquing religion, but rather those who play fast and loose with it, or are in it for self-aggrandizement etc). Barry didn't find God in anyway that matters. He just picked it up cuz it made him feel good. And when it got in his way, he was quick to surf Christian podcasts for the one which would tell him that murder is cool lol He has probably one genuine moment with God this season: When he prays for strength so he could go in and save John so that he can have a long and pious life. BUT THEN he undercuts it by talking about how he wants this so he himself can be washed of all of his sins and take his righteous place in God's kingdom. This made me laugh so much. That and the "I don't think that's God's plan for me" to Sally lol And yeah, I don't think Barry was redeemed at the end. Seen a lot of people say this. I am glad tho that at least for ONCE he was ready to do the right thing. But even still, it took him losing his wife and child to finally come to that moment. And I love how that is precisely the moment when he is killed lol.
I feel like people are too quick to throw the word "redemption" around. REAL redemption isn't easy or quick. It isn't just one quick little action after a lifetime of horseshit. Real redemption requires TRULY accepting responsibility and then putting in the work to be and do better. Even then one might not be redeemed in everyone else's eyes. Real redemption is messy. If there's one character who got actual redemption or a genuine shot at it... I feel like it's Sally. She's not perfect. She is not completely okay at the end, but she is doing better. She still has some of her old ways with her. She doesn't say "I love you" back to her child. BUT from what little we saw of them... I think that there is love there between them. Given Sally's past (relationship with Sam, and her GOD-AWFUL, narcicisstic, borderline abusive mother) etc... it's hard for her. What really makes me think this is the fact that despite all that praise from others about her work, she didn't buy it until she heard reassurance from her son. His opinion matters to her. Plus, there was a little interaction with a student whom she told to try again/audition next year which sounded really genuine. So she does care about her students, and is content with what she's doing. Is she a good mom now? Maybe, maybe not. But she's def much better than she used to be. And while she is living, having accepted what she did (I think that's why she doesn't see that biker's ghost again. That scene of her in the car was absolutely set up to make the viewer think that he might pop up again)... she's got a CHANCE to BE BETTER. Some people say that Fuches got redemption, but that's crazy lol. Fuches did get one thing: self-acceptance and honesty with himself. Something that Noho Hank couldn't come to terms with at the very end, and he died for it. He couldn't be truly honest with himself
Right. You often hear people on the inside say, "They've found God" and they're a changed person now, like that somehow absolves them of everything. I think that's what the show was getting at with Barry "finding God".
Don't forget that Sally didn't do anything to help Gene. If she came clean with what she knew Barry did there is no way he would have gotten convicted since pretty much all evidence was conjecture. There is no redemption for her lmao. But she did seem to have accept it, the same as Fuches, considering she happily drives in her car with her demon in the backseat.
I love the ending. The entire show Barry wanted to be seen as a good man, without doing any of the work, then when he finally decides to do the right thing, it's too late. I also love how everyone that got a "good" ending were the ones finally able to admit who they really were. Hank dies because he couldn't admit he was a monster, but Sally and Fuches admit they terrible people and that spares them, Cousineau couldn't let go off his own ego and that's why he punished, while Barry finally deciding to turn himself in, turns him into the hero he always wanted to be. Brilliant end to a brilliant show
I think that Sally does care for John. She asks for his opinion on her show. She got so much praise and applause from other people, but I don't think she bought it until she heard it from him. His honest opinion GENUINELY matters to her. I just think that given her tricky, traumatic, messy past (especially the fact that I don't think she ever really wanted a kid)... showing affection is something she needs to work on. She did try and protect John from the BS of that movie. And she was searching for him after that gunfight. AND her scene where she came clean to him. All that's real. Plus, I think that she genuinely cares about the work she is doing. It isn't what she had in mind at the beginning of the show, but she seems somewhat content. And when she told a student to audition again next year or something like that, she sounded genuine. She's found some contentment in her life, some acceptance. But Idk. I have hope for her. She's alive. I don't think she is 100% okay, I don't see how anyone who went through ALL that would be. But as long as she is alive, there is hope. And in the face of ambiguity... I choose hope for change lol
14:37 John saying i love you & Sally not saying it back (if she did i missed it) suggests she still looks for outward validation/approval. For some reason she doesn’t accept her son’s as legitimate enough to validate her. Sad
Suggests? She straight asked John if the play was good, twice because she didn't accept the first good job. It hurt me the most because it was old Sally, despite how far she's come.
Sally, Barry, Gene, The raven, and some other characters cared about approval from others and morality instead of just accepting who they are and what they want, and how to get it, which caused the opposite of their desired outcomes.
What good series!!! I’ve been meaning to rewatch it for years now and these videos have been perfect and so much fun!! Love the reactions and opinions!! Great stuff, thanks for the awesome content!!

Ordinarily, I am not a fan of the flash forward approach within the season of a series. In the case of Barry, they did it on two occasions. But given that this was the last season and they were not going to do a season five, the writers wrapping up the story properly likely did not have a choice. All things considered it was the best ending they could have done. Fuchs, Hank and company all suffer the consequences of their actions, as do Barry and Gene. Sally finally gets the chance to put her demons behind her and move on with her son having a peace of mind she would never have had with Barry.
Technically, Barry did sacrifice himself and was (in media and the world at large) redeemed for his sins, which allowed his family to live without problems. The moment he fully accepted all his actions, he repented. Such a great show!!
When I watched the final two episodes...I wasn't sad or heartbroken. At least, not at first. Because everything happened so (relatively) quickly, I was just absorbing everyone's deaths & conclusions without really feeling anything. But I tell you what: over the next couple of days, I really, *really* missed Hank and Cristobal...my little TV heart was broken for them. ~~~ When teenage John was at his friend's place, I LEGIT thought he was gonna introduce him to the Call of Duty games. /violence begets violence, etc
What Maple said at the end, that's the exact way I feel every time I see a reactor say something like "Oh I'm watching a war movie today, I'm glad I get to learn about this history." Nope, sorry, you will never learn a single damn correct thing about a conflict by watching a movie, and definitely not one made by any kind of major entity (i.e. all of them now.)
im glad maple asked if the scene w barry casually buying and walking out of the store w assault rifles is normal in CA cuz it’s definitely not that easy, but i do think because these episodes are supposed to be 8 years in the future they’re predicting that it’ll become that easy in the future

This show should not have worked the way it did. Bill Hader is a madman

When teenage John was at his friend's place, I LEGIT thought he was gonna introduce him to the Call of Duty games. /violence begets violence, etc
I need yall to see the movie Cop Out with Bruce Willis and Tracie Morgan simply for the “Homage” scene.
So glad we get Arianna long stroker for one more video 😅😅
What Maple said at the end, that's the exact way I feel every time I see a reactor say something like "Oh I'm watching a war movie today, I'm glad I get to learn about this history." Nope, sorry, you will never learn a single damn correct thing about a conflict by watching a movie, and definitely not one made by any kind of major entity (i.e. all of them now.)
i would expand that beyond history movies about conflicts lol
im glad maple asked if the scene w barry casually buying and walking out of the store w assault rifles is normal in CA cuz it’s definitely not that easy, but i do think because these episodes are supposed to be 8 years in the future they’re predicting that it’ll become that easy in the future
It's that easy where I live now.
@@Diegesis 🥴 oh no
There's not a single place in america where it's that easy, even in texas and florida lol. The only people who think it is are people who obviously don't own firearms
i took my buddy into the store when he turned 18 and we walked out with an AR-15 in about a fifteen mins
@@Diegesispress X to doubt unless that place was in the hood. Every legit place requires a background check, legally. This is mandated by federal law.
If you love Noho Hank, you should probably watch Gotham. His character is incredible, almost just like Noho Hank
I love you guys! you had the exact reaction to the ending that I did, but rewatching it with you here made me realize that the entirety of Barry is an allegory for the rise and fall of the United States as awhole. I'm about to rewatch the whole series now.
So did Fughes redeem himself in the end?
Redeem? No. But he took responsibility for his actions and accepted his role in things, which was the requisite to survive the show.
@@SuzakuX Then, I guess you could say Sally's punishment for never owning up to anything is a shallow and lonely life.
@@Full_Otto Yeah, pretty sure she could have saved Gene if she confessed to the stuff she knew Barry did. But then she wouldn't have been the innocent girlfriend of a traumatized and manipulated war vet and instead an accessory to a crime.
When did Sally take responsibility for her actions?
Arianna you did us dirty, ngl I crush in a wholesome way but gaddamn that mustache… and on the FINALE. I been watching every Barry and Stranger Things and if you do this again as Hopper ima be mildly displeased
what a ride :>
Tricky Legacies.
Please for the love of God watch Scavengers Reign. It's one of the best animated shows in years. It's from HBO but they didn't do any advertising so not widely known. It's 12 episodes and about 20min each so wouldn't take long to watch and you won't regret it
Neverheard of the show but just watched the trailer, and that looks interesting!
Thanks for the recommendation! 👍
1bund it's one of those shows that the creators got to do what they wanted with no interference. Great watch of you like SciFi, animation and great music
the animation style is too unappealing
Yall need to do Mr and Mrs Smith.
Even the character who arguably deserves it the most, gene shouldn’t have done it 😅
Man you really interpreted the ending movie wrong.
Personally i think Fuches got off way too easy.
The girl on the right looks like Borat
Please watch Industry next
one of the best shows ive ever seen. fun react series, enjoyed it!
It feels like this was always going to be the ending but they got additional episodes and thats why season 3 was treading so much water. I really liked the ending but wow did I not like season 3 lol
Hey what's up WOW great looks that you guys have no no offense by the way it's just that I never seen all you guys costumes before or this is that you guys changed but I'm sorry I don't mean to say a thing like that it's just when I seen you two before I never know if you guys changed well I'm sorry I didn't want to make fun of anybody but if that's how the way you guys are then that's fine with me I don't know about you guys but either way have a good time and a good day and a good luck to you guys and have faith to each other and probably keep on the good work and I'm sorry for saying all the stuff I said to hurt your guy's feelings I didn't mean to really it just that I never noticed If it you guys or probably you guys might be wearing costumes or something but I just wanted to let you guys know that you have great day for you guys, because you guys are the best UA-camrs ever.
