Thanks Steve for recommending this awesome tent! It was your review that convinced me to buy this tent and I love it. I got it for a bargain on amazon for just 116 sterling happy days. God bless you and stay jovial :)
Nice video. The thing about the Hydra 200 which makes me want to buy it over the banshee 200 is that even when it's raining you plenty more room to cook food as you demonstrated.
Good review, I used to have that tents predecessor, the Tornado 200, an immensely strong tent if a little tricky to put up (pole sleeves were a bit too thin). What you have there is a rebadged Vango Mirage, which again is a strong tent as it is semi-geodesic in structure. Wishing you many happy adventures in it......enjoy the channel too.....you chaps are bonkers.... but in a good way. ATB 👍
Good over view of the Hydra. Looks like a handy little tent . I’ve gone for the quite similar German Vaude terratrio 2 P. as it was in a sale for £125 so half price. Imho it’s rare not to be able to find a spot to wild camp. My old Golite Hex 3 tipi is huge 8x7 and 5’6” high yet I have never had a wild camp problem , mainly because it’s floor less with only a 50 percent inner .
Good review Steve and like most things there's pros and cons to it all plus personal choice. Looking forward to the next video to see it in action. ATB Andy
Looks a good size tent ..When folk are looking to ultra lightweight tents its still nice to see that weight isnt always a factor over comfort and its bucking the trend. Plenty of backpacking tents cost £400 plus ..which is way put of my range so £150 is decent value.Vango products are generally pretty good so its good Steve has stayed with the same brand. No doubt the tent is gonna get a soaking and some hammer on the fells soon 😂..Good look on the next adventure ATB Mark.
lots of guyouts... looks solid . Its good it has those two guylines at the foot end since that will hopefully be where the wind is hitting. The tapered design should shed wind very well.
I use the banshee 300which is more like a two man tent ,very little difference in pack size between it and the hydra ,good and honest review though ,looking forward to the next video
Looks good steve and I feel that £150 for a wild camping tent is a good price, I am currently researching for another tent, weight is a big factor for me and at the moment I am using a Luxe Hexpeak V4A, and if you have seen it you will know it has Bags of floor space and head height to, But I am not confident it will perform well pitched high on a summit, first time I have seen this tent and it looks good, vango are not the lightest of tent on the market unless you go for the force 10 types, but then moor expensive, great review and I will look this one up, and when are we going to see you two out again your videos are really good fun, Both Take Care, Les.
First review I've managed to find on the hydra😟comes just a week after I bought the nemesis 200, story of my life however I might pick one up anyway now I've seen this
Is the inner tent always hooked to the fly or can the fly be erected first and then the inner tent? Does the door have full mesh so that it can be zipped closed and still allow air to pass through? Is there separation between the inner tent all the way around the base to allow air to blow under the fly. For instance on a hot night, would air come under the edges? Would like to see sleeping kit inside the tent with the rucksack on one side to be able to better visualize the actual room available. Or maybe two sleeping kits side by side? In America, it's rare to have a fly with more than 1500 mm. coating. Floors might be 2 or 3000mm but not fly's.
Hi Bruce, Colin here (the other half of Jovial Campers) - I can say with some certainty that the tent can be removed from the outer (ie you can set up the outer and hook the inner afterwards should you wish). We just chose to leave it attached for quicker set up times as its usually blowing a gale and/or raining when we set up. The door isn't mesh, its more like a silk kind of fabric (like the rest of the inner), it breathes (isnt water proof) but certainly isnt a mesh. However there are mesh sections to allow the free movement/flow of air in and out. There is a gap all the way round between the inner and the outer yes, air would only come under the edges of the tent at the bottom if it wasn't secured down properly. I would suggest possibly leaving the outer tent open to allow for more air flow on a warm night. Sleeping kits wise, Steve (the chap in the video) leaves his kit bag in the front part of the tent (the porch area) as his bag is massive (90L) so has plenty of room in the night to sleep. I would say that you could comfortably have two people in sleeping bags in the tent if the bags were either outside and/or in the porch area. I will say though that if you are looking for a comfortable sleep (with bags) for two people, get a 3 x man tent instead. Most two man tents I believe are only comfortable for one person and a bag/dog ;) I hope this helps... In our next wild camping video we shall show Steve in his tent with his bag... ;)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures Thanks Colin, it would only be me in the tent, so my kit could fit where another person would be and it wouldn't have to be outside. In America, in Kansas, in June, it can be quite hot at bedtime so ventilation is paramount. Nearly all tents sold here have only a 1500mm coated fly, but maybe a 2 or 3000mm floor. Fly's are optional if it is really hot. I have been debating between the Hydra 200 and an Alps Mountaineering Extreme 2. Thanks for responding.
One other thing: what are the actual dimensions of the inner tent floor? As I interpret the drawing on the website, the tail end is about 47" and the front is 55". Those seem to be the overall outside dimensions, which would make the inner tent floor a trapezoid and not a rectangle as shown in the picture. Thanks
I bought this, and as a stocky 5'9" bloke, I find the internal space really restrictive with a decent size rucksack next to me, wish I'd bought the 300.
The pullover is a wife special and won't be reviewed! Headroom wise is a big bonus. One can easily sit upright inside. Much better than the Banshee. After a second camp in it last night in sub zero temperature there is no condensation issues at all...
I bought this on Amazon prime for £135 two days after they selling it for £120.99 couldn't believe it but its the 300 one ive got and there selling it for price now... I dont like the banshee because im 6ft 8inch tall and i find it hard to lie down the tent i was very looking forward togetting was the vango sabre Very same as the banshee the inner length is around 237cm and had loads of storage so that was my dream tent but sold out completely everywhere i would happily buy two of them
😁 They need to start making longer tents its a annoying and uncomfortable when your feet are sticking right into the bottom it feels like the material is gonna rip plus your feet feel cold even worse if theres condensation lol ... Have you bought the hydra now then cause steves got 1 or the same tent
Steven Mcelrue, basically I felt that the shape and footprint of the banshee 300 would be too vulnerable in strong winds. As we have to try now to camp at right angles to each other one of us will always be side on to a strong wind. The hydra is the same size but it’s geometric triangular shape makes it in my opinion far stronger in bad conditions, a point I feel proven by the first time I took it out ( the 2nd to last video we did) hope this helps! Thanks for watching. Steve,
The Hydra is far better than the Banshee. However for a minimal weight gain The Vango Nemesis Pro 300 is the best 2 door 2 vestibule fully geodesic bomb shelter..

Good review to be fair and looks an ideal upgrade from what you were using before. Cheers Alan

Good review, I do love a vango 👍 Turn your phone on its side when doing a video, that way it will fill the screen.
Thanks Iain yes sadly I realised that too late when everything was packed away... :(

Hi, I enjoyed this review. Could you give the title of the video where you tested it out? Many thanks.

Hello. Is this classed as a 4 season tent please?
Regards.
Is the inner tent always hooked to the fly or can the fly be erected first and then the inner tent?
Does the door have full mesh so that it can be zipped closed and still allow air to pass through?

Hi Steve
You didn't comment on headroom & condensation issues.. are there any ???
Oh I like the pullover too, would that be M&S any review 😂

6ft 8.... Wow, THATS tall.... I couldnt even start to think how you would have to bend to get in to a Banshee haha!!
