Unfortunately the event organisers gave you completely wrong information about engaging the various modes.
As you worked out for yourselves, you CAN lock the centre diff in high range (and, incidentally, you can drive in low range with the centre diff unlocked).
To engage the rear and front lockers, you don’t have to be in neutral. Just press the button ONCE. The light will flash while the vehicle confirms that the locker has engaged, and will then go solid.

Yes, we got into a Quartermaster with another rep and we had a successful run in that one. Will try to post that video tonight
