- Samsung’s Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro and Icon X are all variations of designs we’ve seen before. The Gear Sport is an evolution of the Gear S3 Frontier, Samsung’s outdoor smartwatch I reviewed last year. I didn’t get as close a look at the Gear Fit2 or the Icon X earbuds - but maybe that’s just as well given how much the newer models improve upon their forebears. With MIL-STD 810G durability and 5ATM water resistance the Gear Sport and Fit2 Pro bring a strong outdoor game, while the 2018 revision of the Icon X earbuds improves battery life many times over. All that’s pretty exciting stuff even for a non-athlete such as myself - and to hear Samsung tell it, that’s kind of the whole idea.

Very timely vid! Can't wait to get your full review of these. My current gear fit 2 - I replaced the original band and had no problems since except that battery life is not nearly as good as it used to be after a year of daily use and charging every 3-4 days. I now have to charge daily which is wicked inconvenient when you work shift like I do. Hoping the gear fit pro will be an improvement ☺️
I've got the original icon x. Very good product but the battery drains when you're not using them so essentially I have to charge them before every gym session
Jack Booth I ended up buying the bragi headphone because of the battery drain issue. I'll wait for the 2018 until I see reviews

His job is to review tech, not to travel the world. It's not like he HAS to attend these overseas events. Props to him for being able to attend overseas events. Makes his videos more entertaining and interesting.

I'm still gonna get the gear s2 because my wrists as tiny. I found a wrist watch my dad had and it's the same dimensions as the gear s2 and fits great.
i was interested in the Watch Sport until i heard you say Samsung Pay is an NFC only affair here. MST is a big differentiating feature.

The watches have so many features that are very useful to me, but the most important feature that I've been waiting for to come back is a Nano-SIM tray, I've had it on my LG Watch Urbane 2 and I can't loose that feature. But, at the same time I really want the Gear Frontier or the Sport. Please put a Nano-SIM tray Samsung !!!

I'm pleasantly surprised by the Gear Sport. It looks a lot like the Gear S2, which I love (well, minus the lack of Google Assistant support).
How accurate the heart rate monitoring is will be what makes or breaks it for me. That said, if either it, or one of the apps it uses also support the new Polar heart rate monitor, that point would be mute.
are these 5.0 bluetooth? if yes, it's gonna 4 times bigger coverage area with s8 and note 8

Fit 2 Pro is way too narrow and doesnt have neither Opera, nor UA-cam.
The Icon X 2018 look a straight rip off in every aspect from the Jabra Elite Sport. It might be the case of them not knowing about the Jabra product. But, they should have put more effort and make a unique design. Because in most countries the Jabra can be way more cheaper than the Icon X. A fantastic video as always Mr. Mobile Fisher!

I'm hearing totally different specs for the earbuds. 10 hours of continuous use and a full two charges in the case. Interesting.
The Icon X seem like a poor copy of the Bragi Dash and Dash Pro. The Dash is smaller, sleeker, touch sensitive, built-in fitness tracking, hands-free controls, 4GB on board storage, doesn't need to be connected to a phone, and it gets 5 hours on a charge with 5 recharges via the battery case. It's also much smaller and better designed. Even the case is smaller despite providing 4 additional charges over the Icon X. The Dash Pro can also get software updates to add new features over time. Bragi has proven their commitment to doing this with the Dash.
I forgot to mention the live voice translation via iTranslate, audio transparency to hear the world around you, and much more. It costs more than the Iconx X, but I'd say it's worth it.
How can the Icons be a poor copy when the original Icons were released prior to the Bragi Dash? I've owned both of them and neither are spectacular and have their good and bad points. Samsung is great for connectivity and poor on battery life. Bragi was great on sound and features but poor on connectivity.

I love all this tech gear , smart phones too , but the one thing that always seems to bee a compromise is the battery .
I don't care what it is , phone , watch , headphones , I don't care if it is heavier and fatter, more expensive, i want bigger battery 50 to 60 % of my decision process on buying tech is battery related .
Got almost simultaneous notifications from the Verge and MrMobile about the same Gear.. Guess which one i hit 'play' first ? :)

Still waiting on an Android Wear watch to really grab my attention. In an ideal world I'd like to see a battery that I won't have to charge more than twice a week, 6 to 8 gbs of internal storage and all the other bells and whistles but I know that'll never happen so 😖
