It's also because the southern accent is easiest for them to go to. There's videos showing how speeding up the southern drawl can sound remarkably like a UK-based accent. So the reverse isn't so far off. Which is also why Jacob was saying it so slowly.

The original episode was funny already, but this animation was amazing, especially how he made Jacob look downwards with his head up to do the accent

I can't stop watching this. I love the originality of what actually went into the animation of it; nothing about the source ever mentioned his accent scaring people, and yet the reactions of the 'people' he encountered was half of the fun for me.

The plot in my head is they're all realizing that American Jacob is actually an alien who is trying and utterly failing at being human.
The animation style has this vague weirdness about it that makes me think it belongs on Adultswim.

My favorite is the American accent that only seems to exist in British tv and movies.
There's a film adaptation of Richard III set in WWI Britain, with a pre-Magneto Ian McKellen as Richard and a pre-Tony Stark Robert Downey Jr. as Lord Rivers. In this version, Rivers is supposed to be American, so in a predominantly British cast, RDJ had to affect an American accent that's noticeably different from all the British accents around him.
So for the two lines that he has, Robert Downey Jr. talks like a British person pretending to be an American. Reading Shakespeare. It's one of the funniest damn things I've ever heard, and it's worth watching for that alone.
