100% agree with your Zombicide problem with the targeting. From day 1 I house ruled that only misses into a zone are re-rolled then those hits are put on the survivors.
+Nicolas Jorquera Soto it is easier, but its still hard with all the dogs and toxics and berserkers and I lose more than I win but I had to sacrifice that because I couldn't deal with that rule. It was either house rule of never play it. I like the game but I hate that rule like I hate Jar Jar Binks.
I don't have any problem with house ruling the ranged attack. It is just like a revised rule set or downloaded scenario - it just makes the game better. It also let's me play the game in a world that I prefer :-)
People complain about the Last Night on Earth being cheesy, not realizing that it's SUPPOSED to be cheesy! Enjoying these bite-size Top 5 lists. A nice alternative when I don't have time to watch the longer group Top 10 videos.
Fantastic list Sam. It's almost odd to see The Dice Tower talk about zombie themed games with anything other than distain. I think this is the first time I've ever seen The Dice Tower even acknowledge the existence of Zombies!!! (or any Twilight Creations game for that matter). Excellent video!
1. Run, Fight, or Die! 2. Maul of America 3. City of Horror 4. Betrayal at House on the Hill 5. Zombie Rally First off, I can't stand the zombie genre. I like classic horror with werewolves and Dracula, and giant monster movies, but I don't like gore. And I have always hated zombie films, so I have been leery of Zombie games. This caused me to be on the fence for Run, Fight, or Die!, but also as I like dice games less than card games, which I like less than board games. But Sam's review put me over the edge and got it, and it's been a hit for my circle. And I love it. A board game meetup player introduced me to Maul of America and thought the components absolutely horrid but I loved the game play! Tom's review of City of Horror intrigued me as Zombies were not the focus of the game, and I finally got it at a cheap price. I found the icons hard to remember and learn and thought the game interesting, but it needs more play. Betrayal at House on the Hill is a game they may not have zombies every time, but can happen. I find the game fun, but not amazing. Zombie Rally is a short funny racing game. Some of these will eventually get knocked off my top 100 as I find better games, zombie or not, and have played only 1 or 2 others not even listed. But I am intrigued by Dead of Winter and want to try it, and Zombiecide: Black Plague. I also have small interest in Carnival Zombie but it looks too dark for me.
Zombies!!! has always had a soft spot in my heart, being one of my first zombie games. I also treasure Zombies!!! for it's versatility. Many locations or zombie types to mix and match. When the designer encourages to you to make it "your game" and make up your own rules. That is great.
when the designer encourages you to make your own house rules it means the designer has not been able to make a good game. That is just a bad excuse for not being able to balance something out. If a game is good, you should not have to change any rules. I don't need the designer's consent to change a rule. I change a rule because the original doesn't work as it should. And Zombies!!! is a prime example of a game with sooo many problems
@@MissMismagius clearly you haven't invested any amount of time to become even slightly familiar with the rouge lite mechanics zombies offers... Twilight creation's revived the tile mechanics early in the 2000's now most indie rouge lites after 2015 completely copy the system and build upon the mechanics like the developers said As a zombie game it offers enough flavor and it's unique take on the grotesque comedy horror is unmatched Honestly when the game can spawn a list of over 200+ different games using the same mechanics let alone the 15-16+ expansions zombies has to this day... It's fair to say it's a great addition to the list and if u haven't played I recommend you at least understand the game before judging it openly to others
I play zombies and it's basically an rpg at this point... Player Infection, hunger/hydration, visibility, radiation, it's a very robust system that has more reply ability than most games Also they have a Los Vegas expansion that offers mini games at the casinos and it's just hilarious
Cool list, Sam. I would have to go: 1.) Last Night on Earth 2.) Dead of Winter 3.) Dark Darker Darkest 4.) Run Fight or Die 5.) Resident Evil deck builder I haven't played Black Plague yet, but it looks like it might fix what I HATED about the original. That shooting your friends first rule is STUPID. Posthuman isn't strictly about "zombies" (they're more mutants), but the idea could have very easily been about zombies, so I give it an honorable mention.
I so wish you guys (english speaking) could play "off the dead" a french coop zombie game just to have your point of view. We were happily surprised by the mechanics and feel. :)
not a single person has even bothered to bring up the one zombie game that is truly fun and addicting and that is Zombie Dice. zombie dice for me if I had a zombie game list would hands down be #1 but question is, has anyone heard of zombie dice? im just curious cause not once has anyone brought it up
haha i was on #2 and thought he was on #1 and was thinking "wow no mention on dead of winter? i thought it was one of the best zombie games ever." and then he goes to #1 heh.
+Adam Dork So, if it sounds like the same ... he hasn't really missed anything, eh? The change in the friendly fire rule, along with the different setting - that's plenty significant to like/dislike. Let's say that Zombicide was released as Aliencide ... same rules and everything ... Not everyone would enjoy that, simply because of the change in theme.
Great list Sam. I love zombie games, even though the market has been flooded with them, good and bad. I also enjoy Student Bodies and Humans! from Twilight Creations. Thanks for the videos!!!
I've bought all the "Last Night on Earth" stuff! It is a great game system, though, a few other games really captured the horror better... "Dead of Winter"... how can you knock this... "Zeds" not bad either. Great review...and I love what your doing here.
I guessed all 5. :) And I would have picked the same 5 I think...except for Carnival Zombie which I have not played. I might have only been able to come up with 4. :)
I just bought it yesterday. Should arrive pretty soon. :3 Looks very good. Maybe the thing I'm not so convinced about is the time mechanic, but nothing that can't be fixed with a house rule or something if we end up not liking it.
You can't get Zombie Carnival anymore but there's meant to be a new edition coming out soon, also Mall of Horror .. wasn't that replaced by City of Horror ?
Zombicide Black Plague? Agree. 100%. It is also my number 2. It would have been my number 1 except for the fact that Dead of Winter exists. So, Dead of Winter is number 1.I haven't tried any others on your list except Last Night on Earth. I ended up selling that one, as I didn't like the roll to move mechanic, and my group seems to disdain all but the very best one versus many games out there. (they seem to prefer Co-op, or every many for themselves).Your list has given me the motivation to check out Run Fight or Die
gotta say i want to play dead of winter soooo bad. i made the mistake of having dow and mice and mystics in my hand at olympic c and c. shout out to gabi! and i chose mice and mystics. a good game but i rarely have the time to play a full campaign. gotta get my hands on dead winter soon.
How ya doin Sam?😀 They should make an Aliens game like this or like dungeon run with The Space Marines runnin around blastin Aliens! 😃That would be cool!
check this vampire game out .. the kickstarter is over recently but you can still make a late pledge ... I ordered it ... www.kickstarter.com/projects/1900818244/vampire-hunters-0?ref=nav_search
Thank you for information. Right now we've got only Fury of Dracula and practically nothing else. For me it's very sad, that we don't have more good games about vampires, because it's very popular theme in pop culture. There's so many movies, tv shows, books etc. So why we don't have more games? Fury of Dracula is based on a very old book of Bram Stoker, but today we have modern vampires like in Twilight, Underworld, Blade, True blood, but in games there's only grandpa Dracula and in horror games we've got only zombies and Cthulhu. It's sad.

Nice list, and good news on Carnival Zombie.
Dark Darker Darkest never seems to get much love, but it's my #1.
+Paul Aceto Not my #1 but it deserves a mention.
Cool list, Sam. I would have to go:
1.) Last Night on Earth
2.) Dead of Winter
3.) Dark Darker Darkest

Dark Darker Darkest really needs a reboot, way too underrated due to the whole kickstart thing and messy rulebook
Very solid list. I had a chance to play Run, Fight or Die with the designer and he kicked our butts.

Carnival Zombies (2nd edition) Kickstarter campaign just successfully ended. So there is hope, it will be available again soon. 😊
Nice job, Sam. I´d like to see more of this top 5 stuff. Thumbs up.
Great vid as always Sam, I've been really enjoying run fight or die recently with my wife - tense game!
Dead of winter, I so need to find a game group
I haven't played many tabletop games but some of my favorite zombie games are zombies and munchkin zombies
Sam must've missed a BUNCH of Zombicide stuff. Outside the dashboard, Black Plague sounds like the same as what I've been playing.
+Adam Dork and the friendly fire rule...which I suppose you could just house rule to be the same as in black plague...and the setting is different.

What about Zpocalypse 2?
And check out the aftermath fortifications pack for cool tower, gates, walls, traps, etc...

I guessed all 5. :)

This is awesome! Im really curious to check mall of horrors!
How about a top 5 with games to play with our spouses?
+Miked There is a sequel called City of Horror, Tom did a review of it. I would like Sam's thoughts on that game. I believe Tom liked it more.
I just knew Dead of Winter was your #1. Just wondered about the rest, though I did expect Black Plague to be included. Just not that high.
I must be alone here, because I'm a huge fan of Zombie 15. Set up takes some time, but it's quite fun.
1. Dead of Winter
2. Last Night on Earth
3. Zombicide: Black Plaggue
4. Zombie 15
5. Zombie Fluxx
I just bought it yesterday. Should arrive pretty soon. :3 Looks very good. Maybe the thing I'm not so convinced about is the time mechanic, but nothing that can't be fixed with a house rule or something if we end up not liking it.

Top 5 Coop games: Zombicide, Dead of Winter (ok ok, not really a coop).. :)
Dead of Winter rocks. One of my favorites games. :)
Zombie Tower 3D would get in next year.
Twilights zombies is a very cool game I remember a friend made a duck move but it was funny 2 shoes untied and 1 calastropbic
How ya doin Sam?😀 They should make an Aliens game like this or like dungeon run with The Space Marines runnin around blastin Aliens! 😃That would be cool!
Carnival Zombie is getting a reprint, isn't it? I've been so keen to get my hand s on this game, but the price and some component issues held me back

Would you?
