You forgot rule #5: Disregard all rules because the lore of the universe dictates zombies, not any external meta forces. Otherwise, great reviews! Thanks for the vid.
I actually want to defend Last Night on Earth a slight bit with the "They don't become zombies"-remark. Yeah, sure they have multiple lifes but with any good zombie movie it takes time for the desease to spread. Thematically, LNOE takes place in a matter of hours at most (maybe not even that) and Dead of Winter could be days in just one round. I think it's fair to "just" loose life in LNOE. Also, if you play the advanced mode, players WILL turn into zombies after a set amount of time, that's kind of wierd though but as you said yourself, LNOE is the B-movie of zombie games and I think that is a big part of its charm. I really like the game but I also really like DOW.
I don't even care about zombies, and I love Dead of Winter. The tension and drama are palpable and real, and you always feel pressured by time and resources. It's fantastic. And the companion Crossroads phone app added some ambiance too. Great video, as always!
+Sarah P Yeah, completely agree. You definitely don't need to be into zombies to love this game. In fact, some people choose to replace the zombies with "wolves", and it still makes sense!
Can you review Zpocalypse, Carnival Zombie, City of Horror, Dawn of the Zeds, Dead of Winter, and Twilight Creations Zombies from a 2023 / modern perspective please?
About the Black Plague dashboards and backpack, I told the same thing to my girlfriend when teaching her the game. She ended up having 25 items at the end of the game with one survivor, since she was able to fit 5 cards per slot...
There are already a few movies having different interpretation of zombies. Nobody made a rule they have to be slow or dumb. But i understand that thas maybe ruin the immertion for some.
Yeah I agree for Zombie 15. it's cool, but after a few play it starts feeling repetitive. Plus there is a lot of little rules that just get lost in the frenzy of the timed play. Sometime you see someone forget about a limitation of his character, but things are going so fast, you can't really pause the thing to go see in the rulebook. Dead of Winter and Zombicide Black plague are just the best!
+Es-Tu Game? Yeah, I have this weird feeling with a lot of timed games that I'm getting things wrong, forgetting rules because I'm rushing everything. It happens in Escape: Curse of the Temple and Space Cadets: Dice Duel. And leaves me feeling like I've cheated. I don't find that so much in Fuse, because it's so simple it's hard to get wrong. I still feel like there's a perfect timed game idea out there for me somewhere, but they never quite click for me.
+Actualol Yeah, this kind of game needs simple simple rules so you can focus on the fun of taking rapid decisions. Or if there is special rules they must occur on a special period of the game where time stop. Like in Xcom the board game. Never tried Fuse yet, but i heard it was amazing!
Great episode! I think this is your best one so far - lol'd multiple times and kept replaying some scenes to show the missus. Shaun and Rick were spot on and the cheerleader was brilliantly ditzy. Glad I subscribed and looking forward to the next ep. cheers!
Pretty much every problem you described with Last Night on Earth is the problems I had with the game. I need a good zombie game to play with friends, so I guess its time to get Dead of Winter.
I wasn't looking for a zombie game, but Zombiecide: black plague sounds great. I was already on the lookout for Dead of Winter, but it is nice to have other options.
+MaleDuckGaming Thank you. I try and improve with each one I make, and learn from the mistakes of the last one, so it's really satisfying to know that the improvements are paying off.
Enjoying your videos and so completely agree about Dead of Winter. I love the tension it creates, the mechanics that mesh perfectly with the theme, and the story elements that can range from funny to horrifying. Brilliant!
Another fabulous review of a theme. Thank you so much. My friends were in love with Last Night, but I never got it, and for pretty much the reasons you pointed out. I will check out Zombicide, for sure, and Dead of Winter is one of my absolute favorite games. Well done, sir.
LNOE: Flying Frog's next game in that system, Invasion From Outer Space, fixes most of the thematic mismatches and improves the system overall. Still has roll to move and random item draws though. Dead of Winter is an amazing game which, unfortunately, suffers from a poor endgame, I feel. Those personal goal cards have been disappointing...it would be great if it was something else. That being said, I also think that it is the best zombie board game to date.
Love dead of winter! One more: hit z road. Not as deep, the rule book totally sucks, but it’s relatively quick. It’s a rather light zombie game, but we really like it! Push your luck, roll some dice, and fight until the end. Cool themed artwork too!
Another great video and a great overview of these zombie games (and glad that DoW made your top spot; it's just a great game). And as someone who has vinyl figures of Simon Pegg & Nick Frost currently on his desk (from both SotD and Hot Fuzz), I applaud your homage to Shaun (not a bad Rick either, since he's really British also). I also truly appreciate how you don't tell people that a game is bad just because you don't really like it. Far too many reviews have no problem just saying "this is crap" and insulting anyone who might like that game (as a Munchkin fan, I'm all too familiar with this).
We LOVE Dead of Winter (we actually just reviewed it ourselves recently!)! Last Night on Earth is pretty fun, too. Can't wait to try out some of the other zombie games you reviewed! Always love your videos.
I play like 2 board games and I'm haflway convinced this is an excuse to drag it up, but I feel compelled to admit this had me laughing. Ned Stark. Lost.
Another great video. I thought you did a great job of giving good insight into all of the games, even though some of them weren't really you jam. I haven't played City of Horror but played Mall of Horror back when that was new - I wonder how different they are.
Great stuff, I've never really felt too much appeal to Zombicide as I heard mixed things about the original. Sounds as though Black Plague cleans some of that up.
I..... Do not know...... Why I'm laughing so hard XDDDD I'm so thankful that I found this channel. Love the reviews, love the couple series, and love the description and comparison of multiple games. Keep being awesome!!!!
"Stop bringing your books into our country. We don't need 'em. We have our own books....they're called television." GOTTEM Also thanks for pointing out Zombicide! It's way expensive but looks like a ton of fun.
+David Orse Thanks David! I'm still relatively new, with not that many videos under my belt. Hopefully it will improve with time. But any help you can offer by sharing with friends is much appreciated. Certainly UA-cam subs, likes and comments really help my videos get recommended to others on UA-cam. And Facebook, Twitter and BGG likes help as well.
+David Maple Fair point. The first edit of this video was much longer than I was hoping, and I cut out different thoughts on each of the games. For Dead of Winter I cut out my criticism which is that I've witnessed some players trying to tell everyone what to do, like it's a co-operative game, and that the main vs personal objective thing doesn't work for everyone. Otherwise, since it's one of my favourite games I don't really see any other drawbacks. (Maybe player count, but that's a problem with 100s of games). But I'd welcome you posting your thoughts to offer people an alternative perspective.

Getting political with board games ;) Awesome video again. Totally agree with you, Dead of Winter is without a doubt the greatest Zombie boardgames ever made
+Actualol hehe! I wish. But i fear the game feeling will be too similar. I'm sure it will be ok, I heard they add some twists, but it's hard to shine in the shadow of a giant like DOW
Great reference to a great series! And great video as well. Made me interested in Zombicide and the upcoming Massive Darkness Kickstarter campaign, since MD is based on Zombicide.
Thanks! Yeah, I'll be watching Massive Darkness Kickstarter with a keen eye. Always require a fair chunk of the wallet, though! But you do get plenty in return.
Actualol My wallet is crying anyway with all these cool looking games on Kickstarter at the moment. I already backed Anachrony, Campaign Trail and Sol: Last Days of a Star :/
your rules 2 and 3 are poor. zombies can be smart and quick, it's boring if they are not. edit: Your rule number 4 is same as 3 and rule 5 is so booooriiiing. who would want only one type of zombies?
that was very painful to watch. I just wanted to see your game reccomendations...not the 20 minutes of useless commentary. I found myself fast forwarding through your skits...just to find out i skipped the info I was looking for.
A cardinal sin is talking about the rules of zombie movies without having seen anything by George A. Romero.
You forgot rule #5: Disregard all rules because the lore of the universe dictates zombies, not any external meta forces.

Easily the best production in board game videos.
Love the Dead of Winter. Though I like the look of Black plague.
Eating a Cornetto while dressed as Shaun, nice.
+llamapie24 It was a lot of effort eating that ice cream, so I'm glad I'm getting recognition for it :)

You're killing me with your Rick Grimes impression! Great Stuff!
Thanks! I went back to watching The Walking Dead for practice! :)

Holy crap, I remember watching you 4 years ago and you just popped into my recommended And a wave of nostalgia just overcame me
About the Black Plague dashboards and backpack, I told the same thing to my girlfriend when teaching her the game. She ended up having 25 items at the end of the game with one survivor, since she was able to fit 5 cards per slot...
Ha!
Wojciech Król MUCH respect man. she's one hell of a survivor. You did correct her afterwards, right?

"Chicken is not vegan?!"
Great video as usual! Serious upgrade on the costumes :D
+L'Utente Medio Yeah, I went all out on the costumes! Figured I wanted to do it right. Not sure they're gonna be very reusable, though! :)
Great video! Loved your references and the characters.

I wasn't looking for a zombie game, but Zombiecide: black plague sounds great. I was already on the lookout for Dead of Winter, but it is nice to have other options.
Yay for Dead of Winter! One of my favourites too. Just bought Zombicide: Black Plague and loving it!
That is the worst Rick Grimes ever, haha! Love your channel! Keep em coming.
This is your best video yet. Nice work.
+MaleDuckGaming Thank you. I try and improve with each one I make, and learn from the mistakes of the last one, so it's really satisfying to know that the improvements are paying off.
+MaleDuckGaming I Agree! But tied with the one about games to play during Christmas :)

that cheerleader intro has me crying over here.

Black plague is to easy. Get the original Zombicide without the Rue Morgue expansion and it is a bit more challenging. =)
