Newly arrived immigrant here. Very informative, I have been watching your videos since before we arrived in the US. Three months in and I just received my Chase freedom Flex in the mail.

Hey, how to be immigrant in US ?
As a greencard holder I wish I had heard this earlier!
The more you know!!! Hope it was helpful
Such a useful video and well explained for anyone that in new to the US! Cool to hear some of your own backstory behind creating this video
Thanks Danial, yea luckily I got to see how my parents navigated it and learn through them. Honestly couldn't imagine landing here trying to figure out the credit system from square 1 haha
Thank you John this gives me a way to go... As an immigrant US financial system it's a little bit intimidating, I would like to learn my way around all this, but this definitely helps a lot, thank you again
Happy to help!!
I haven't realized how foreign the credit system would be for an immigrant. Very nice basic overview of the confusing AF U.S credit score system.
Thanks Chase, yea it's pretty daunting I'd imagine. Pretty cool how we could also transfer our credit report to some of those countries as well
Chase do u have a Chase card?
@@AutriBanerjee I only rock Credit One
We arrived a month back in the United States and this video was just what I needed. Lots of great information to get started on the journey of building credit history. Building credit seems a bit complicated and somewhat lengthy process, nevertheless super important and the tips that you have shared will hopefully make it little less painful. Thank you for the direction!
Wow dude!! Thank you so much!!! This was very educational!! Thank you thank you thank you! I feel I can now achieve dreams I thought impossible!
I'm happy to help!! Wish you the best!
Thank you so much for this info! I moved to the US shortly before Covid started, so getting everything squared away has been a long and difficult process. I'd never heard of Nova Credit before this video and was able to finally get approved for a credit card using the service with no credit history here!
That's amazing! A very late welcome but Welcome to the US! And also congrats on getting approved for a credit card!
Glad i landed here, got my work permit now im ready to build credit
Absolutely took value out of this!! Instant sub! Thank you John!!!
Love the introduction...how i felt when i arrived...cheers to a brand new start everyone 🥂
Another super helpful video here!! As an expat, definitely going to follow the steps!
Glad it was helpful!
I'm on a nonimmigrant visa. Just got my SSN 3 days ago, applied w Capital and got approved $200 limit with a $49 deposit!
Just shared this video with my cousin who just got her social security number!
Thank you, thank you for this video!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Great video! Would love to see this or an update video since you've come up so much in the past two years :)
Thank you John. Its really helps me
British immigrant here. I started by getting the Discover student card and was very happy with it. I didn't have credit in the UK since i didnt see the point of a credit card there. US ones are significantly better and I've been saving a good amount of money each year.
great vid, thanks man!
Tourist here. I have three cards already without an SSN.
Who were the companies who helped you get the cards? I was only able to get from Capitol one! Thank you
thank you dude, you'll make a great teacher!
Thank you John
Thanks moving from Ohio to the United States.
😂
John, thank you for this video. I decided to wait until I get my SSN, so to start on Secured Card. I'll save your video to rewatch it later to refresh my memory. Is there any chance you live in NYC ?))
I'm not in NYC, but glad to hear you found this helpful!! Best of luck on your credit journey.
Very helpful!
Thank you so much for this video! 🙌🏻
How many of these methods should we pursue? Is there any drawback to opening multiple secured credit cards?
If possible I would recommend getting added as an authorized user while also opening a Secured Credit Card. If you have no credit history it might be difficult to open multiple secured credit cards, but in general opening multiple cards does not have any long term negative impacts. I'm glad I was able to help - please let me know any additional questions!
Thank you, Thank you
Some Canadian banks such as RBC have a US subsidiary. I've heard of Canadians buying vacation properties in the US and they get their mortgage through RBC's US subsidiary (but based on their Canadian credit history). Perhaps the US subsidiary might also report their mortgage to a US credit reporting agency?
Thank's for the share, I wasn't aware to RBC subsidiaries in the US but that totally makes sense! Is that something you've done?
I wish I had an account with RBC when I was in Canada.
thanks for the info 🙏
How many credit cards should I open as Authorized user?
Thanks for an informative video. Does reporting my rent contribute to my credit score if I already have a credit card?
Question: I will soon move to US, and will have my AMEX Platinum migrate to US via their global program. My question is: will I start building credit score from then? or will I inmediattly receive a credit score? thanks
If you get someone to add you as an authorized user, will you inherit “bad” or “not so good/average” credit as well? Asking in case the person who says yes doesn’t have particularly excellent credit
Great question and the answer is yes likely that will flow through as well.
Amex will also xfer from Mexico , I got $10,000 credit limit from my Mexican card
The video starts at 4:10
Hi John thank you so much for this information it's so important, am in Africa but with a dream to migrate to America , what are some of the banks you would advise to open up an account when I come to USA?
Great video!!! Moving from the UK to California and some very useful info here. ANYONE knows how to lease a car in california just after relocating on a work visa? no credit history.
I have tried alot of credit cards to apply but i get rejected everytime. Its been 3 years i am here in USA as a permanent resident. What should i do brother, how can i start my credit history. What credit card would suit me as a beginner and have 100% chances of approval. I am really worried about my credit history to build up. Cant buy anything 😥
Thank you John, I have a several question. I am currently student in Germany and I'm planning on doing internship or student exchange to USA.
1. I am not USA resident/citizen, never been to USA. Can I open US bank account and apply for credit cards before moving to USA? if so how
2. Can I get SSN once I become exchange student in USA?
thank you again I appreciate your help.
Thank you so much for this instructive video. However, I am a bit disappointed when you mentioned what you did for your girlfriend since I don't have anyone to do this for me .): And the other options don't sound like I'll be able to build a good credit in less than two years. Since video was posted two years ago, is there any better option in 2023? Thank you!
Does the new authorized user need to have a social security number?
You said to pay on time and in full. Does that mean if I use my cc and say I spent $150. I have to pay that $150 at once before the due date. Or can I pay installments before the due date ?
Moving soon to U.S. as a new resident, have an account with HSBC UAE and US with a corresponding credit card since about 4-5 years (always paid on time and in full) can I translate that credit history to U.S. terms?
Thanks John...
If someone with a ITIN gets a credit card and gets a few late payments or go default. How do you go about to fix that person credit, like u would to fix someone with has a SSN ?
Hello everyone! I was hoping for some advice. I recently moved to the US but I have a 10 year established credit history in Canada with a score of 810. When I moved in January of this year, I was able to get a bank of America credit card when I opened my bank account. I also recently got approved for the quicksilverone card from Capital one ( I am hoping to upgrade this card to the regular quicksilver card in a few months to have a no foreign transaction fee card). My oldest US credit card is 2 months old. My current Transunion score is 683. I am able to apply for the Amex gold using my Canadian credit score. Would you suggest applying for the Amex Gold in the next 2-3 months? I really do want it but it would end up being one of my oldest US credit cards which might make it difficult to cancel it in the future if I decide I no longer want it. Any advice? Thanks in advance 🙂
I am from Philippines and I have my Citibank and American Express credit card. I live here in US now. Can they trace my credit records from Philippines since I have my Citibank and American Express?
Not true about authorized user, this is inaccurate, please check what you are sharing with newbies.
As if you can just pack your bags and JUST come to the US, if you want to. As a person who considered to be a third world nation, I don’t support this version of reality 😅
Thanks me later 3:55
WHAAAT 2 years 740??? I NEED 740 in 6 months
Haven’t heard of Astro cybernet ?
Wow that was a very long intro
So so so helpful! All my questions are answered.
