- In this episode, we explore a massive mental asylum that once had over 9,000 patients. As we were in the basement, we found a crazy tunnel network with nuclear fallout shelters.

Double plastic trash bags (strongest you can find) on each foot, tied around each leg with string, rope or bag ties. Easy, cheap, the usual workaround for such situations. _Plan ahead._ Your feet do _not_ want to be infected with the gunk in stagnant water.
Derek Currie Useful, but also extremely slippery.
@@jeremossy9768 Good point. Break out the wellies! Or slip over the bags a worn out pair of sneakers. Then of course there are the most excellent fisherman waders. I used to have a pair so I could go fishing around for aquatic insects in streams.
That was my first thought too. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks logically in these situations. It's esp. frustrating that they even admitted they were afraid the basement would be flooded, but didn't bother with any contingency plans. Like what kind of urban exploration is that?

With all that water, theres bound to be black mold spores everywhere.
You all might want to invest in some high grade breathing masks before you get deathly ill.
But dont you think its funny that there is a fallout shelter under a mental institution?
If you know anything about fallout shelters, you know that maintaining good hygiene and cleanliness is essential in to prevent people getting sick from water born illnesses.
The mentally ill at these hospitals were NOT going to join the staff in that shelter, thats for damn sure.
Somewhere to go was actually a requirement for certain kinds of buildings. There is nothing funny or odd about it at all. Some buildings had sections designated for such use. Others had officially reserved spaces for such.
and black mold is hardly the only dangerous mold or even the only danger to those kinds of conditions.
What is a fallout shelter
@@Babumoshai.. It's basically an internal or underground part of the building that is meant to be able to be retreated into, preferably sealed off to some extent. That can be stocked with supplies and other necessities to ride out the worst of the effects of nuclear fallout from a bomb being dropped until help can arrive to evacuate people safely or the radiation drops enough to potentially be able to escape the area on ones own. In large buildings they are often something that is/was placed in a basement area if at all possible because the ground and the mass of the building would help insulate and protect from radioactive particles but if that was not possible it was often something within the core of the building away from outside walls.
Uh...nevermind

I think they meant rain boots which, on a dry, sunny day, would be quite conspicuous.
Honestly the worst would be flip flops

I wonder if any of the security guards looked up the asylum on UA-cam just out of curiosity, saw this video, and were like, “Shit.”
don't you guys ever get worried about breathing in asbestos and all that sort of shit
Yes, we should've been wearing our respirators for this one.
The Proper People Yeah lol i saw all that stagnant water and the ceilings/walls/pipes and i cringed a little bit
well if it's damp you don't need to worry too much about asbestos, because the dust sinks to the ground and gets collected by the water, if it's dry and you whirl up a lot of dust then it's dangerous.
Urbex Tyrol I know. The water itself alone though would make me want a respirator. Not to mention all the lead paint
Those pipes were lagged with asbestos and it was severely damaged, please be more careful guys. Awesome video as always though.
Those security aren't very good with their jobs, a lot of people have clearly gotten in 😂😂😂 graffiti and all
Riight? 😂 Oh well
They're not there to prevent people from getting in. They're there to prevent people from ever leaving...
It’s possible that the security haven’t been there for the whole history since abandonment.
It’s possible that the security was court-ordered after a few years of abandonment. Or the land has some new owners who decided to install security for some reason.
@@12SPASTIC12Hi ¿But why would and abandoned building need security?
@@sofiagamez7007 My guess is that the owners of the building would be liable if something happened in the building. For example, if someone injured themselves exploring it.

As a security guard, I'd just give them some ground rules to cover my arse (wear PPE, don't touch anything unnecessarily, don't take anything, stay out of certain areas, and stress that they are responsible for any personal injury or death that may occur).
I've found people are far more compliant and have respect for your authority if you allow them to do "the wrong thing" under your set conditions (to keep themselves and the premises safe). Whereas if you tell them to leave, they'll just come straight back when they /think/ you're not looking, and they'll do whatever they want, placing their safety at risk and disturbing the premises.

Many psychiatric hospitals were unsafe, underfunded and understaffed so when people became more sensitive to peoples quality of life they started shutting many of them down also people who worked at or stayed in these places left ASAP and never wanted to come back that's also why they're left so intact with a lot of stuff cause people wanted to forget about these places and didn't want to come back for any reason due to the horrors they either experienced or witnessed lol.

Preserve the building? Prevent arson?
Maybe the city wants to keep historical land marks there and let the building naturally collapse by itself.
That's how it's like in Canada where I live, some really really old barns just sit in the middle of a field and you can't take it down unless the government allows it
Maybe theres a secret government base, where they do tests on people. or they weren't guards and just curious people.
Maybe they don't want squatters and it's not safe for people to live in there
Probably insurance reasons. The property owner can get sued if someone gets hurt in there, regardless if they were trespassing. (Kinda like the burglar that breaks into a house then sues the owner after getting bitten by the dog.)

Waiting for that reference
I felt my toes recoil when you stepped in that stuff... Ick
I wish I worked security at this place lol. I'd go inside and scare people. 12ga shotgun blanks are loud af!! Imagine walking in one of those tunnels and you suddenly hear someone rack a shotgun and start firing. Your feet wouldn't be the only thing that's wet!! Lol
tch tchk-BANG!
Geckobro1312 It would definitely keep people out though

Imma need that fallout shelter now
9:43 my middle school was a fallout shelter. It's still standing. Still has the signs.
Where was it
When you guys moved that yellow shower curtain and u saw those paint chips fall that makes the led and or asbestos hit the air your disturbing it seriously I know
A tip if u don’t want to get ur shoes all nasty, just bring shower caps and put it on the bottom of your shoes 🤪
Everytime I see buildings like this I just get creeped out like why is it abandoned in the first place
When I was in Deveroux I escaped once, as a teen and when I was taken back I was put into one week, plus a couple of days in an "iso"(isolation)cell.
