      @@vetarlittorf1807 Presumably the usual way. I think it was more a comment on evil in general. But relating it to the Legendarium, it's about subcreation rather than procreation. Melkor could not make a new species from scratch, only alter and twist what already existed into a deranged form. Even Aulë, who created the dwarves, could not make them living things. They were dolls that could only act to his own desires until Eru adopted them and made them real.
      There are still questions though, like Ungoliant (and her offspring, including Shelob), whose origin is unknown. Tolkien didn't believe in having all the answers, as there are plenty of things we don't know about the real world either. Most of those can probably be handwaved as being part of the Ainur's song that were marred by the rebellious notes of Melkor, then brought into existence by Eru exactly as they were sung.

    The oryginal Little Mermaid was also all about the surface world, wanting to be there, and seeing Eric was just the final straw when her dad got mad. And it was Ursula who put the fast romance into the deal to have a winning chance, not Ariel, she manipulated her into it. Ariel just wanted to runaway from home where she felt trapped and misunderstod, to follow her dreams. A cute prince was just a bonus.

      @spndusk2362 Рік тому +3

      No it wasn't. Ariel had desire to go to the surface yes; but she was a growing teenager who yearned for adventure and romance. Did you not watch the Part of Your World number where she talks about meeting a guy and dancing with him? She never pursued that desire to leave the ocean until she met Eric. He became her motivation. Her love for him was her true motivation to make sacrifices so that they could be together on the surface. This story was about unconditional love not vapidness.

      She didn't want to move to the surface because she didn't know it was possible, not because she hadn't met Eric yet. Part of Your World makes it very clear that she was more interested in the surface world itself than anything. Eric simply became her primary focus because her feelings for him were all she had left after Triton destroyed her collection. But she still wanted to explore the world above, she just wanted to do it with Eric.

    I was ten when “The Little Mermaid” came out and my parents dragged us to see it. I remember thinking it was really girly as only a ten year old boy can, but then getting really sucked in by the story and in the end, really feeling something about Ariel. When Beauty and the Beast came out, I was totally down for it because TLM won me over.
    Nothing about this remake has won me over, mostly because it treats the magic of the original like it’s all a mistake. The hook of the story is of a mermaid falling in love with a human, which is something mermaids in lore weren’t supposed to do, and you neuter the drive of the film by trying to replace most of that romantic drive with just wanting to be on land. Romance isn’t some evil desire… it can drive us towards great accomplishments or great tragedy; that’s the hook of the story. Modern Disney doesn’t want female characters to be motivated by their love of a man, which is a shame, because it’s that very drive that makes them relatable! Even at ten, I could understand Ariel’s drive for Eric, and root for that. It’s fundamental. It’s the heart of the story. Why weaken it?
    It’s a bad choice, Disney.

    What's really cynical about the casting is that Bailey isn't there to be an empowered role model, she's there to be a shield from criticism. Even if the movie has 1,000 problems unrelated to her, the response to a flop or bad press will be to throw her forward and call everyone racist while standing safely behind her as Disney themselves make her the sacrificial object of controversy.

    The problem with these live action versions is that they keep trying to put real world logic in these films. Example in Cinderella (2015), it has Cinderella being smart to the point it was a Belle/Tiana hybrid, yet not savvy enough to find a way to escape from her room? Then you had this subplot of the Duke scheming with other nobles to arrange a marriage between the Prince and a neighboring kingdom that it felt like the writers were watching Game of Thrones the night before handing in the script.

    We all know king Triton is going to be the villain in the movie. He's a patriarch who is holding a girl back, and Ursula has now been changed to be his sister. They will probably do some side plot about Triton being given rulership over Ursula because he's a man to really hammer home the sexism. Ultimately Ursula will be a mother figure who will help Ariel escape her evil father's clutches. Rather than robbing Ariel of her voice, it'll be changed to be a necessary part of the spell and framed as a tragic but necessary sacrifice that Ariel will be willing to make.
    The finale won't see Ursula defeated. Instead she and Ariel will confront Triton, who will be thoroughly put in his place and forced to abdicate the throne to one of them like a good little neutered boy. Also prince Erik will be madly in love with Ariel and not the other way around, and she will reject his advances as a way to portray her as strong and independent.
    I haven't watched the movie, but it would shock me if the plot isn't mostly this. And H. C. Andersen is turning in his grave.

    So , in the little mermaid Series they created a character named Gabrielle a deaf mermaid ! She's based off a fan that died during the shows first season. Here is her story : Gabriella first appeared in the episode "Wish Upon a Starfish", where she meets Ariel after seeing Ariel express her desire to dance. Gabriella expresses a desire to be able to sing (despite not knowing what singing is), and convinces Ariel to come with her to seek out the magical Wishing Starfish. The two girls find the Starfish after facing many dangers together, but he is revealed to be a fraud. The girls are saddened, but Ariel reminds Gabriella that she expresses herself beautifully through her sign language.
    Gabriella would reappear in the episode "Ariel's Treasures". Gabriella returns to visit Ariel and is introduced to Ariel's extensive collection of human objects. However, Ursula, as part of a plot, casts a spell over the collection, causing each item to attack other fish and merpeople. The two girls are able to stop the spell, but only by destroying each object.
    So much better then the live action and original .Even better based off a girl that passed away. Being they took romance out of the live action this is a perfect concept. Original and a commemoration. The episodes are full of heart too.

    Wow, completely glossed over the implications of the change of Ariel killing Ursula. Triton raged against humans throughout the story, until Eric proved his worth by taking out Ursula, thereby proving not only his worth, but humanity's worth overall. Don't forget that this balances Ariel saving Eric earlier in the movie, and, again, proves his worth (not just his looks) to her. Now, there's no balance, there's no change in the characters, there's no conclusion of the plot, just a "And it all ends up OK, trust us". Fck no, I won't trust you.
