Making Our Own Ford Focus RS In Germany

- We asked if we could go the Ford factory in Germany and work on a Focus RS. Amazingly they said yes so we flew to Germany to help put together our own car.
We also caught up with the lead vehicle designer and performance engineer to see what they thought about people like us modifying something that they have been working on for years.
And of course then hit up a track to do some skids...

It's actually quite usual to be allowed to film on factory tour.
You can visit the BMW factory in Munich for ten euros if you're a student, and you can takes pictures :)

Thanks to Ford for letting us into their factory. Until the RS arrives, next episode we'll be back to Mira with a bunch of rad parts that we picked up in Japan!

So happy for you guys! As the owner of a 17 sti I must say I considered one of these! I'd definitely like to recommend ceramic pro or cquartz ceramic coating to keep it protected! Or even Xpel wrap! Congrats! Huge fan since the first season all those years ago! I've watch all the episodes countless times. Hope to meet you all one day but hey Florida is pretty far away lol.

If you're referring to them having one in the Focus, not likely as it's not a requirement in Aus.
If you're referring to merch, maybe, or at worst, put a sticker on one or have it embroidered on professionally
since Aus is in the european song contest its a part of europe. therefore, it will be bullied into copying some silly ideas from France/Germany and boooooom Chopped high-vis vests everywhere
p.s. if i pay to produce merch id put my face on it and not some other brand

Omg guys. I have been a long time mcm fan, right from the early days. This video you have just walked right up my street. I have always been a through and through ford fan, I have owned nothing but ford, I currently have two ford C-max 's.
I've always been interested that they are built in germany, a majority of them being assembled in Saarlouis, and to see it happening and with you guys getting involved omg I don't know what to say. I'd have loved to have been there and been involved with a ford build at all, but the rs modifications too omg *the excitement takes over*

From the driveway with hondas to here...MCM is evolving, becoming bigger than they every thought possible, i feel privileged to have seen this progress and i can't wait to see where Mighty Car Mods goes from here -Please come to Adelaide some time for a meet!
German here: "Schmackes" does not techinally mean "smack it!", but rather (at least where I live) we say "mit Schmackes!" if somebody is too carefull wirh something i.e. with hammering a nail, and it means to do something more manfully, which I guess you could say translates to "smack it" :)

Too many salty fucks scared of progression and success here. I still think the content is great, there's only so much home built stuff you can do and it's especially time consuming. They're a busy pair and you get it for free, be glad you get any MCM at all. It's not like they've sold out and every video is a corporate shill for a car that doesn't fit the demographic. At least I got insight in to a car I love and should put a smile in anyone's face who's into a modern drivers car. No one forces you to watch this, you don't own MCM and if you want lots of videos without huge waits while they order or pay for expensive services, they have to go beyond working on old stuff in their own garage.

I think it's only natural some are a bit worried. I loved this vid and would not mind watching something like this every now and then. But if all their videos became like this a lot of people would loose interest very quickly.
I don't mind the wait if it's worth waiting for.
So, they're not allowed to buy a new car? Or be involved in assembly, seeing how it all happens? They don't really plug anything or compare it to other brands. Seems a lot of the others commenting on other posts are drawing long bows. To me anyway. :shrugs:
I think we are talking about two different points. I was under the impression that the majority complaining are afraid that this is the direction they are moving in rather than upset that they did an advert for Ford Focus RS. I have seen it with other youtubers where they put out a very popular video and then move in that direction due to its success but then everyone is upset because it's not something they want to see every time and eventually that yt ends up going back to his original style.
Marty was buying a new car and they decided to take us on the ride with them. Not like this will be what all the new content is like guys, don't worry.
It's like the video the guys did with the Ford Ranger a while back... yes it was sponsored, yes it was a new car... BUT wholly hell it was still an awesome video to watch just like this one. Regardless if it is a low key commercial or not. Heck I would prefer to watch "commercials" produced like this than the bullcrap force feed down our throats by the corporate fat cats.

ok so i just bought an RS last week! OMG this cars amazing and i used to have a 400+ hp s13 180sx, i know fun cars and this is at the top of the list for sure
Just bought mine. Traded in a Hellcat Challenger. RS is a whole different kind of fun but 100% more smiles than the Hellcat!

I've been following you guys for so long, and you two have become better and better. I love each and everyone of yalls videos and watching this clean and madd edited piece, in the fact that it is one of yalls best examples of just how good yalls channel is. lloydness s that is just how the launch control works. Slam the accelerator until it hits the launch rev limiter, then drop the clutch and the computer takes over. It just automates the usual accelerator feathering and clutch slipping. The actual clutch doesn't actually drop like it does in a regular manual car.

But the the designer engineer said the engine its pretty close to the limit. So how much more power can we safely add to this engine?
@@juancruz-jg5pq probably not that much and still meet their required reliability parameters. Depending on your tolerance for issues, it can still handle more.

I got mad respect for all the people that worked on the RS, my brother has been a die hard Ford fan for 30 years and has always owned ford's. I love German engineering that's why I personally own a vw scirocco 2.0L R-line. But have respect for the jdm scene aswell and of course minis because I am English after all.

Interesting and different video, I can relate to it being a Roush Engineer in Metro Detroit and having visit the Ford truck plant.

nullr1 a few hours? I know that's a joke but Golf R was tested .2 seconds slower by EVO in a half mile. That's pretty good for being cheaper, a better daily, 8 psi less, and 58 less horsepower.

What impressed me the most was not Fords' stance of "Sure, come build your own car" but the down-to-earth attitude of the entire process. You'd think a lead designer would frown at people altering their design, but he totally accepted it an embraced it by seeing that everyone likes things differently. Plus Ford were so accomodating from the off, even when you blew a tyre they just got you another car to rag around in. I'm honestly amazed by the video, and fingers crossed you guys get to do something similar again!

Side note:
No RS on the road in Germany has the Drift Mode.
A few months back the Government decided that having a "Drift Mode" is too dangerous, so Ford had to recall all RS sold and had to permanently disable the function.
Easily the best video you guys have ever made. Can't wait to see more of the RS!

That was a fantastic video as all of MCM. But it took me too the end of the video to realize that they now have two AWD drifting hot hatches. I really can't wait to see this turn out in the mods they do and the new stories they'll have.

Rocker Panel is american apparently. Either owing it's origins to naval terms (a curved keel) or rock (being a protector from rocks).
I'd buy that. But I've always understood the rocker panels to be the sheet metal underneath/behind the lower door sills. Kind of the spot where gravel hit's if you don't have front splash guards/mud flaps. And then side skirts are side skirts.
I wonder why the Germans call it that. Also, as Frontball mentions, the rocker panels are actually under the skirts on these cars.
I live in the US, I've always called them rocker panels. Maybe that's just because I'm more into the wheeling and offroading scene, where they serve that purpose. (Protecting the fragile body from rocks and other obstacles)
History 101 - horseless carriages = cars. Allegedly, the term goes back to horse-drawn carriages. If in doubt, Google it out.
Maybe... or that they get the hell beat out of them by rocks if you drive down gravel roads with no mud flaps.
Thanks for showing me how my car was built. Looks like you had a real blast over in Germany. Looking forward to see what you guys do with the Beast once it arrives. Maybe you could get onto a company like Mountune as they are putting out some good kit for the RS. That might inspire Ford Aus to bring in the warranty covered 375hp kit a little bit quicker. They do similar ones for the fiesta and focus ST models which Ford already offer. Enjoy.
