- A short compilation of pictures and in-flight video from the recent Region 8 soaring contest held at Ephrata, WA. I managed (by God’s grace) to make it home every day, even if I finished last almost every day. The weather was challenging and the other contestants were good pilots. My comfort zone has been “well-stretched”. 🙂
John, Your video made me feel so homesick. Since 1999 through 2022 I participated in the R-8 comp. Many great memories. I am glad you flew the contest. My first one was the best soaring education I ever received. My experience each year added to the previous one and eventually I got fairly good at it. Not on the winners circle much but there were times I did not make so many mistakes and did come in second and third. Had I been able to continue soaring I might have finished first.
Thanks for the encouragement! I'm hoping to participate in many more future R8 events. I agree that it is one of the best soaring educational events you can attend. I learned SO much!
