This is exactly what I needed! I just got my P500 a few weeks ago and so far I've only been using it for plowing (and moving firewood), and right off the bat I noticed that the reverse mechanism was extremely inefficient for that kind of use. I'm a long-term motorcycle guy, so for me to see that the fix for overriding the annoying reverse mechanism on the P500 is nothing more than a cable adjustment just made my day. THANK YOU!
Great mechanical hack! I'm hoping to get a 2022 Pioneer 500 for plowing snow and cruising around my property. Looked like a hassle to get it in reverse with the cable. When I get the 500, that's gonna be the first thing I do to it! I'm really liking your videos! Keep them coming!
Not possible to do so you don’t have to worry about it. The transmission does not allow you to go into reverse unless completely stopped. I prove it in this video Should You Fear The Reverse Lever Bypass Mod On A Honda Pioneer 500? ua-cam.com/video/MFvG68j0hAw/v-deo.html
Great tip.. just bought 1999 Rubicon 500. Have to pull red reverse lever then break. Then can push dct button into reverse. Was looking for way to disable that lever.. think you just did that.. ty
I love your posts man my p500 runs better with your channel just a heads up keep posting stuff like this. Any time I have a problem or need to figure something out I go to your channel 1st thank you for the time and effort you spend keeping my 500 on the road
As soon as I got my 500 home defeating that stupid design was my number one priority. Best two minute mod I think could ever be accomplished on this machine, Honda made it quite easy to do so.
I cut a 1.5 inch of a noodles pool and i put a slit in it and now when im going to plow it take 20 second and reverse is perfect and in 5 seconds it can come out for any other driver will break anything
I tried this hack on my 2017 and it did indeed work but I tried manually pushing my machine across the garage floor and hitting the reverse paddle at the same time and it will go into reverse while moving forward.I also watched the other vedeo you added in regards to the machine going into reverse while moving.Any ideas? The machine was not running when I tried putting it into reverse. Thanks gary
I installed power steering before I was making videos so no video of it from me. It’s not hard however and the instructions, at least with the ez steer kit I used, were very easy to follow.
I’m not 100 percent sure it’s the same for the 520. I think I saw someone say that it had changed so you can’t bypass it anymore. If you still can there is no downside. Mines been done for going on 5 years now.
That's a valid concern but I know guys from the Honda side by side club that have been running their P5's for a couple years and thousands of miles with this done and have had no problems. The only thing that would be a concern is the wire stretching over time. Even if that were the case it would just need to be readjusted and you would be good to go.
This seems like a no brainer at first, but then I got to thinking about down shifting in manual mode and how easy it would be for someone (maybe someone who's not an experienced driver or maybe even me if I was in a hurry and not thinking ) to down shift right past neutral and into reverse while still rolling or moving forward. Ouch! Since we don't use reverse that much and we're mainly just trail riding , I'm gonna keep our's in the stock setting to avoid someone accidentally screwing the transmission. It might just take one mistake like this to cost you a lot of money. I read somewhere on the internet that this happened to a guy, removed safety on reverse, and he forgot and down shifted into reverse while rolling forward and stripped the gear teeth right off. Your talking about saving 2-3 seconds. I like the idea, just don't think I want to risk the consequences of one mistake costing me $1,000
MITommy it would have no I’ll effect. Correct me if I’m wrong but with the auto you still have to pull the lever and hit the down shift paddle to go into reverse so it’s the same setup. You’re good to go!
That's what year mine is so it should have it. Sounds to me like it was left off during assembly for some reason. Maybe you got one built on a Friday...lol. Like I said before, one or two other people have mentioned not having the second nut so it seems to me like its more of an oddity (like it was forgotten during assembly) than some kind of production change.
AppalachianMountainRiders that was my thoughts. I’m gona contact my dealership just to see what they say. There not touching it, just to see what they say
Adam Newman zero! In fact, I’ve even proved for the ones that were afraid you could accidentally go into reverse while going forward that it was impossible to do so there is absolutely zero reasons not to do it!
@@AppalachianMountainRiders Just did it to my 2018. I would bet there's additional adjustment at the other end of that cable, though who knows how hard it is to get to. Or maybe it's just variation between individual samples. I had *barely* enough thread. . . .
It don’t have a high top speed but is geared low. Plenty of power for what it’s intended use is. Would a bigger engine be nice...absolutely but I bet the 500 would surprise you on the trail. The 5 speed manual makes it nice as well.
My dad has a 2019 p500 as well as I do and we do alot of riding with family that has rzrs and they are completely shocked at how well these do I love my machine and I use it to plow snow and haul wood move cars it is awesome all around machine
BUT…how to eliminate the rev limiter? That’s the question my friend. Those of us older than you were raised on motors with no such fiendish devices, it’s a pain.
😂😂😂 It saves a tremendous amount of time not having to reach down, pull the lever , then hit reverse. Just have to flick you fingers back and hit the paddle shifter. Ask anyone who plows with their P5 and has done the mod. It saves a LOT of time, especially if you’re running a winch control for a plow too.
So what happens if while traveling forward you down shift into reverse? Seems like if it isn't a problem Honda would remove the extra parts and save on the cost to build, just saying.
It is impossible to shift into reverse while going forward. The electronic transmission won’t let it. The break has to be on and the machine has to be stop.
This is awesome. It was very easy to do and works great. Thanks from Quebec, Canada (Pioneer 520 2023)

11,000 miles! That’s incredible! Also great news for the rest of us P5 owners👍
11,000 miles. That's great. Mine has 1,000 and I plan one keeping it for a long long time.
It's a Honda not impressed, but 11k in 5 years... my man
Hands down the best mod for the P5 in my opinion. Keep up the good work, your videos are always very informative.
I just bought a 2020 P500 and this was my first mod. It's simple and free.
Love your tip....thanks bud!!!! I successfully made the adjustment on my P500 2018 and am now looking forward to plowing this winter thanks to you!

That little hack is worth money! Thanks I’m definitely doing that to my 500
Can you please make a vid on how to adjust the idle
Love it! I never realized this hack was so simple! Im doing this tomorrow!
Omg god thank u so much I did not attend to come to UA-cam and look for this but this is going make my life so much better with the pioneer

Very cool but I wonder if this will cause some problem down the line since the cable is always in the pulled position. Is something always engaged?

Saw another vid who modified n tried exactly what you feared. When moving forward you can’t switch to reverse unless your stationary
That’s was me that did that as well to prove it was 100% safe😁
@@AppalachianMountainRiders Ok, I stand corrected.
I need to give this a try!
You’ll love it if you do! Though it takes a time or two to remember you don’t need to pull the lever anymore...lol.

Yeah same drill. Thanks man!
Mine don’t have that nut on the front ( the nut closest to the front )

I like this mod, but what happens if you accidently hit the reverse paddle while in forward gear? Maybe nothing, but I'm just curious.
Nothing it won’t let it go into reverse is is moving forward.
Im Thankfully you make videos. Awesome!
So after all this time have there been any problems from doing this ? Thanks

Will this machine go into reverse while moving forward ?
Nope
So with this mod, you cannot downshift to far and hit reverse while moving forward? It will still only go into reverse while stopped?
@@Chickennss I had the same question but if there is zero change of it wanting to engage while driving then to hell with that level system..
On my 2018 the threads aren’t long enough to do this. I guess Honda wanted to shut this mod down.

to many people slam there Transmissions into reverse... so i can see why honda has that procedure...to prevent that...
Good hack, but doesn't "save" any time. It takes no longer to pull 2 levers than it does one, lol. You still have to pull them at the same time.
