This spring, Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher return to Broadway in the first-ever revival of the classic Cy Coleman, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green musical ''On the Twentieth Century'' at the American Airlines Theatre. In anticipation of this production, which sees the pair following in the footsteps of Madeline Kahn and John Cullum as Lily Garland and Oscar Jaffe, TheaterMania was invited into the recording studio as they laid down a promotional version of the great first-act number "I've Got It All." Check out their version of the tune in this video.

This queen has vacated her throne far too much in recent years for the lure of forgettable television and films. Although I think that both are great talents, Kelli O'Hara sticks to the stage and is always looking for ways to stretch herself with comedy ("Nice Work"), serious drama ("Madison County") and operetta ("The Merry Widow").

I have followed everything Chenoweth has done seeing her in the original Wicked. I was ecstatic when I heard she was doing this. Ended up seeing it about 10 times including the final performance which was unbelievable. Congratulations to all. Hoping she revives this again. Will see it 10 more times. Saw the original production as a kid, but hardly remember it - other than Imogene Coca in “She’s a nut” riding the caboose. Thank god for soundtracks. Wish this had been filmed.

Twentieth Century finally opened and the critics mostly love it. Raves from NY Times (Brantley) and NY Daily News. But Kristin gets raves from almost every critic. It's been five years since her last Broadway musical, Promises, which was a misfire as she tried to show her dramatic side in a bad role while singing some Bacharach/David songs.
With this she has established herself as a Broadway star and brought back a fine musical comedy that had been sitting in the attic for decades. I've already seen it twice and it's a lot of fun and the audience is very enthusiastic. After Sunday's matinee, which was sold out, they got almost a full standing ovation, but half of the people didn't stand until Kristin took her final bow.

Out of the over eighty Broadway show experiences I've witnessed, "On the Twentieth Century" remains my fondest Broadway memory. This revival is long overdue. I'm very happy to see that Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher are so well suited to their roles, and easily rival Madeline Kahn and John Cullum, (and Judy Kaye, for that matter). I just hope whoever takes over the roles of Bruce Granit and Letitia Primrose can be as brilliant as Kevin Klein and Imogene Coca were in the original.

Not politically correct but tactless and Comden and Green were better. But the song and performance is great. Hope no one “f**king crushes” you!

Chenoweth on the difficulty of the role, Broadway World interview two days before previews:
KC: It's all going to be hard. I'm going to have to live like a nun, which I do anyway, so it's not going to be that big of a change. The key will be sleeping a lot, resting my voice, and staying in physical therapy. I have previous injuries, and I have to take care of my body so that I can get through the run. But I'm going to do it because I'm ready.

Previews of Twentieth Century start tonight, Friday, February 13th. The Broadway World message board will have a thread on it which will have the first reviews from people who saw the preview. I really hope that this is a smash, but who knows what Broadway audiences like anymore. The N Y Times theater critic used to have the power of life and death over a show, it was said, but his two rave reviews don't seem to have sold a single ticked for the doomed production of Honeymoon in Vegas.

Fabulous! I saw the original production and would love seeing it again. The original had two problems. All the performers were more or less slaves to the set, and the final moment in the show didn't work so well. Just one ol' actor's opinion.

The musical was written to take advantage of two great voices, Madeline Kahn and John Cullen and in the style of a Gilbert and Sullivan work by Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Cy Coleman.
