Holy cow dude. Before this I was struggling with mantis I was focus on healing too much but I just took your advice and went won 8out of 10 matches dominating thank you so much
Mantis is more of a "support" than a healer. Her healing output is so much lower than some strat heros, that's why she needs a "2nd healer". IF you're healing everyone then your teammates are the problem because you don't want to have the most healing done - you want less = no one is taking damage in or little at that When I play mantis, I have to block peoples chat + mute voice chat so I can focus because I've gotten 30kos just playing her alone and I could have gotten more IF I wasn't healing + boosting 24/7. IF I'm struggling to stay alive, I will dps and won't listen to my teammates. Even then, I still have to learn the other heros just incase I get teamed up with people who don't know how to play the game because I can't even rank up myself or play well because I'm so busy babysitting people.
I think it’s important to realize that mantis heals herself when she uses her orbs. So as long as you’re doing your role and using natural cover you essentially cannot die as long as you’re not getting soloed. Punisher’s ult will take you out your ult. Your sleep works on flying characters, it angles at a curve so be at a good distance and launch it up. So for low flying star-lord, iron man etc you can make them drop down to you or your teammates. You can also sleep someone like Wanda out of her ult.
You're so right because I've eliminated Iron man using sleep because he was so low. Again, jumping on jump pads and shooting at them. Depends on the map.
dude, you’ve given me a whole different perspective on how to play especially with taking accountability for every game. Thank you man truly for all the effort put into this video to help us out. i been stuck in diamond feeling like its always my teammates fault but in reality i js needed to change my mindset
Huge point on mentality a lot of players in competitive games don't understand that if you want to improve you need to be critical of your own gameplay and say to yourself. if I lose its on me and if I win its on me. so many people are hard stuck low elo and every game "it's my teams fault I lost. I can't climb because I get bad teammates." You can never improve if you're not looking at yourself with the lens of, "what did I do wrong, what could I have done differently, and how can I improve for next time. Great Video!
Haven't watched your videos in a minute, but when I started playing this game I thought of all the tips you gave me during the OW days. Been an easy climb to diamond so far, topping damage half the time. Much love, keep up the good content!
as a longtime fighting game player thats new to the genre, the way you explained ranges at 3:35 finally made it click for me. it's almost exactly like playing footsies in street fighter or mk. This guide has been so helpful at letting me transfer my understanding of high-level strategy in other genres into this hero shooter framework. Thanks!
My man, ty, ty, ty for defining these terms! This my first PVP game and shooter ever. It’s been a huge learning curve. I watched tons of videos since this game came out from many channels, you’re the only one I subscribed to. Thank you hope I can get my accuracy up from 9% lol
I’ve been watching your videos from OW for a few months now. I’ve now moved to Marvel Rivals and chose to one trick Mantis and lucky me: you made a video on her. Initially it has been frustrating trying to implement fundamentals. Whenever I die I can easily identify what I did wrong, but its making the right decision in the moment thats the tough part. Its starting to come together though, getting a little easier to intuitively understand what an “off angle” is, or when to push or fall back, where I should take cover, etc. Just hit Diamond 3, my goal right now is GM. I’d love to see more Marvel Rivals content from you.
I was roaming in Plat for like a week(between plat 2 and 1), and after the video i got Diamond in a day and out of Diamond in 2 days(Got in GM today!), nice guide, keep the good work Awkward =D
Exclusively played this character when the game first came out. She feels so fucking good to play because of that combination of damage, passive heal over time, CC, speed. Surprised some content creators ranked Jeff and Luna over her in some of their early tier lists. I always felt like she was the easiest and most complete support to carry on.
can you name the creators cuz the majority of them said that mantis was the best support in the game. and Luna can be better sometimes when you need a lot of heals.

From watching videos, I've seen Mantis being put in "S Tier" in ALL videos. Personally, as someone who has lord on Mantis + 4.4k assists ( From healing + Boosting ) I don't agree and I have many reasons why because playing her I understand her weaknesses + she can be countered. There are other strat heros that are better in terms of survivability, healing, and dpsing without relying on others.
@@Sandovian It's not just that. There's other things about Mantis people don't know how about. Have you seen a mantis on a losing team? I'm close to having 5k assists on her but there's a reason why those in the leaderboard are playing Luna + C&D with high stats more than Mantis. However, It won't matter as long as the Mantis player is good. It's not Mantis that makes her "good", it's the player behind Mantis something people don't understand. Playing Mantis as a strat won't make people win 24/7 but it's a nice start.
i come from games where healers have to be 100% defensive and meticulous play 3D chess in their head with positioning and LOS angles, min/maxing their raw healing output. Watching this is like taking the chess board and dumping 10 sets of pieces on top of it xD
Is that how I ended up with 4.4k+ assists on Mantis and 1.1k+ assists on C&D. I'm still upset that I can't rank up despite angling my shots and knowing who to boost and who to heal. Sometimes, I'm just SO TIRED to even play strat that I switch to tank to get 10+ kos without worrying about healing
Yeah I felt like mantis shoots exactly like zen. Then yeah she has ana sleep dart, weaker but better mercy damage boost, and an ult that is like baps shift but better.
GUYS THIS IS LTIERALLY THE ONLY SUPPORT GUIDE YOU WILL EVER NEED. LISTEN TO THIS TEACHER. mans has me out here bullying iron man on MANTIS. pls. im so annoying now. chat the enemy team needed 3 healers to outdo me. plsssss.
Gravitated from Kiriko in OW to mantis in rivals and have already been playing with high dmg in mind. Then I get this Christmas present from the goat 💪
i noticed that you can't do what you doing if you are the only "support" on your team or the other support isn't good as your main role is to heal your team or just pick a dps then when you look up for your team to heal them they already healed by another support on your team who focus on healing i'd love to see you play in a team where you are the main healer or the other support also go for damage
If you're the only support is probably an L anyway. Some games will be lost at CS, but the teams going to have to be hyper aggressive to win regardless.
This depends. I'm constantly playing strat and my experience from playing ( Take it with a grain of salt because I gave up on rank, I can't rank up with teammates who can't aim at all or know how to win ) and I almost have 5k assists on Mantis alone. I kind of stopped playing her because I was getting tired and got stuck with people constantly throwing, leaving, afking in spawn, complaining about heals, etc. To the point I wasn't doing much of anything - healing or eliminating --> IF you are the ONLY support on your team then you need to recognize that it is NOT your responsibility to heal everyone else. They already ruined the team composition themselves and there is not much you can do. What you do: - DO NOT LEAVE. Stay in the ranked match and report the throwers. You do your best. - You can switch to a DPS or tank just to prove your point but IF strat is your best role, stick to it. - Boost the highest DPS player - Heal only those who contribute, whoever contributes the most. Tanks take up a lot of your life orbs so choose wisely. - Boost yourself and aim at the head to up ur ult - Use your ult beside objective and keep spamming pings to tell people to go there IGNORE everyone - Mute + Block chat if you have to just to attempt to win.
"you should play thinking that every game is winnable." That's the exact mindset that got me yelled at in bronze when 5/6 teammates voted to surrender and i told em I didn't hear no bell
I did this and literally blew through bronze -> plat in 1 day just playing Mantis. However, once I got to diamond I had a lot more issues. Usually people on my team would just be taking such massive amounts of damage and I would have to spam heal and I never have f for myself. I had plenty of games early on where I was top DMG and top heals before, but once in diamond idk, I feel like I'm having to always solo heal. Which I know I'm not because the other healer is healing but my team is always just taking massive amounts of damage to where it feels like I'm solo healing. Idk if that makes sense. It's rough. I have to use my sleep to just stop their DPS from doing damage for a few secs to just get caught up but then it just goes back to the same thing over and over. And when I'm playing other healers all I'm doing is healing, not doing any damage as well. I regularly do 30-35k healing unless we're just getting completely shat on. Because, same thing I have to constantly spam heal otherwise everyone is basically insta dead. It's like that almost every single game in diamond. It doesn't matter, 1 tank, 2 tanks. EVERYONE is always taking so much damage.
This is EXACTLY how I feel except I'm not in Diamond nor am I an OW player. I solo que and I'm solo healing like 90% of the time my life orbs + cooldowns on strat heros are limiting me. It's either I'm healing BUT struggling to stay alive OR I'm dpsing as a strat BUT my team is taking damage. Either way, if no one is on objective.. We are goners no matter what. A lot of these OW players don't understand this concept because they are playing with other people who already have experience, skill or something is off. Maybe we are all bad I guess and they just know something we don't.. I literally have: Mantis = Lord + 4.4k+ assists. 75 is my best in 1 match Cloak & Dagger = Centurion + 1.1k assists. I can get KOS with C&D faster than Mantis BUT that's because I can survive better with the kit.
Thought I'd add my 2 cent here as a grandmaster Luna player who duo queues with a Mantis. At those ranks the only chance for mantis to shine is for your other support to take over the healing. Most games I end with 35k and my Mantis at 20k, but a lot more damage as I took the pressure off of healing for them. Of course if you are that much better than your rank you can still just carry without worrying about your team, but sometimes it is just down to your team... it is a team game afterall
Give me tips. I got lord on her in like a day or so + have 4.4k assists. ( I got this 1-2 weeks ago from playing ) I just stopped playing rank because I'm tired of being matched up with people who yap too much and complaining about heals. - Are you solo queing or pre-made teams? - Have you played OW before? - What map is the best to play Mantis? - Do you use health packs or just heal yourself? - What do you do if you're on cooldown? Sometimes, sleep misses and now I'm stuck in some corner of the map alone since my teammates got eliminated
Being completely innacurate using a controller (i dont have a pc) is the biggest reason i play hitscan characters and melees like Magik. My problem there, is... I don't have the skills to climb like that. I get very annoyed at my lack of accuracy with controller, as I didnt really grow up playing shooter games... so I just dont have the muscle memory or the strengths of those players. Do you have any tips or training methods I can use to increase my accuracy so I'm not missing EVERY SINGLE SHOT on my enemies? Controller just feels so egregiously difficult for me
I suggest you look at your settings and fiddle with the aim assist settings. Eg. Increasing window size and lowering/increasing ease in dependent on whether the character is a hitscan or projectile. Also fiddle with the aiming techniques.

The way you break the gameplay down and overall premise is insanely well done. Thank you so much for the info, I beg for a hulk guide lol. I feel like I get a lot of value on hulk but I find myself getting massive loss streaks despite svping at least half.

The tips are really good because I'm always afraid that I'll die alone and end up 0-30 lmao
You don't have to be awkward. Just knowing when to fight, when to off angle and when to heal, as he showed will improve your ranked gameplay. That doesn't require mechanics, just a little game knowledge and awareness.
@@TyLovePie now thats just an over exaggeration. Maybe to reach top 500 you have to click heads like a pro gamer, but to get to platinum? Diamond? Just the basics are enough. Hero shooters are a lot about timing. Just time your attacks with the rest of your team. Attack the enemy from unexpected angles, position yourself to be able to attack and heal. That will sway the odds in your favour. That will allow you to 'carry'
This just helped me a lot. I hit GM3 and struggling to get GM2 [keep getting 1 game away and losing]. Thanks, this vid's really useful. Getting this game tomorrow to play with friends. I consider myself good at shooters but even so I really appreciate having the initial rungs of the ladder pointed out to me cause hero shooters aren't normally what I play. Not every shooter rewards the same skills so it's nice to be told where to start for *this* game.
I respect your take on Mantis however; I don't think most players are skilled enough or smart enough to pull off your playstyle. They will see that they need to heal, lock in Mantis, go for damage, and completely ignore heals all together, or don't heal enough to keep the rest of the team alive. I feel like the average player doesn't need to be filled with this much confidence
To be fair as much as hes hyping up bad players to try things they arent capable of he does include to keep the mentality that the loses are your fault as well. Youre not gonna climb by playing a character non optimally just because you arent good enough to do it yet. Only way to get better is to do it and practice
I played a bunch of QP in OW2 days and just enough competitive to get placements. For Rivals however I am now Diamond II on Mantis with roughly 65% WR. All thanks to your educational videos and a bit of willigness to learn. Gonna gun for Eternity.
I would love love love if you kept making these videos-- I want to get to a point with Marvel where I am in OW where I can play nearly every hero confidently, and be able to adapt to the team and still play well. Holy shit man, used to watch your zen guides for overwatch, potentially maining mantis in marvel rivals and I find this. Was worried that you had stuck to overwatch lmao
this guide and gameplay is incredible. i was using mantis way too much as a heal bot and not applying pressure from angles. if you wanna play in the back line of your team, run Dagger or Luna. Mantis is the ultimate pressure applier. I’m 1 game off Diamond 1… I’ll hit GM as I continue to play this way with Mantis.

For players with bad aim like me, take some time to change your Crosshair in the settings and go to practice range to try it out. From OW to Rivals, the FPS to TPS perspective will change how you aim. The closer you are to the enemy the higher you have to aim above the enemy to get headshots. You could also aim slightly to the right of the character model due to perspective again. Lastly change your dpi/sensi to something that is manageable for you

When I play mantis, I have to block peoples chat + mute voice chat so I can focus because I've gotten 30kos just playing her alone and I could have gotten more IF I wasn't healing + boosting 24/7.
Personal accountability is the true ultimate. Still working on it myself. Great video!
Thank you.
dude, you’ve given me a whole different perspective on how to play especially with taking accountability for every game. Thank you man truly for all the effort put into this video to help us out. i been stuck in diamond feeling like its always my teammates fault but in reality i js needed to change my mindset
How to win as Mantis.
See enemy heads, shoot enemy heads. Give heals and DMG boosts when needed. 😅
24:36 Bro just casually looks up at his winter soldier and it’s YZNSA. Lol.
Bro said “Don’t call them healers, if you call them healers you are a bot” 2 seconds later he said healer himself
he said heroes with an accent
26:14 “Why am I not afraid? I have pinpoint accuracy” 😂
I’m so glad he mentioned that they’re not HEALERS. People who call them that make me cringe, their role is way more than just healing
Haven't watched your videos in a minute, but when I started playing this game I thought of all the tips you gave me during the OW days. Been an easy climb to diamond so far, topping damage half the time. Much love, keep up the good content!
exact same situation for me
as a longtime fighting game player thats new to the genre, the way you explained ranges at 3:35 finally made it click for me. it's almost exactly like playing footsies in street fighter or mk.
When I applied your mindset I instantly started improving in overwatch, now switched to marvels and I can't wait to grind ranks
i already love your content because you started off by explaining what she even does!!! ty and def will be subscribing
I was roaming in Plat for like a week(between plat 2 and 1), and after the video i got Diamond in a day and out of Diamond in 2 days(Got in GM today!), nice guide, keep the good work Awkward =D
Principles very useful your real life too. Funny how much you can improve when you take responsibility for your mistakes and successes alike
I think a payload replay analysis would've been useful, as the off-angles opportunities are harder to find than in KOTH maps
^this
Exclusively played this character when the game first came out.

To be fair, these are the early lists from these people, when everyone was in the process of learning
@@miltaire3235tbf, Merchant's early list was looking at it from a lower skill pug standpoint. I suppose if you never crit and have bad game sense, Mantis is going to be awful
Mantis is like Zen just with a sleep ability and I love it so much.
That’s why I started playing her! I said “they gave zen an Ana sleep? That’s OP”
Zen with LW heal spamability
Yeah I felt like mantis shoots exactly like zen. Then yeah she has ana sleep dart, weaker but better mercy damage boost, and an ult that is like baps shift but better.
Yeah kind of like life weaver heals as well but they are kind of limited by the requirement to do damage so ib like that system better.
transcendance is also better with mantis you can actually do dmg
can't believe I used to watch this guy to get good at ow and now I watch this guy to get good at marvel rivals
I watched this Video, played a Game with Mantis and got 31 Kills and 34 assists
GUYS THIS IS LTIERALLY THE ONLY SUPPORT GUIDE YOU WILL EVER NEED. LISTEN TO THIS TEACHER. mans has me out here bullying iron man on MANTIS. pls. im so annoying now. chat the enemy team needed 3 healers to outdo me. plsssss.
So basically, how to carry: 1. Have god tier aim. 2. Keep shooting
Gravitated from Kiriko in OW to mantis in rivals and have already been playing with high dmg in mind. Then I get this Christmas present from the goat 💪
Same here too. Its been so many times when I'm playing mantis trying to TP away but realize not playing Kiriko😂
1:54 that’s exactly true. Especially for people who joins solo Q with random matchmaking
i noticed that you can't do what you doing if you are the only "support" on your team or the other support isn't good as your main role is to heal your team or just pick a dps then
when you look up for your team to heal them they already healed by another support on your team who focus on healing
i'd love to see you play in a team where you are the main healer or the other support also go for damage
To the point I wasn't doing much of anything - healing or eliminating
--> IF you are the ONLY support on your team then you need to recognize that it is NOT your responsibility to heal everyone else. They already ruined the team composition themselves and there is not much you can do.
What you do:
- DO NOT LEAVE. Stay in the ranked match and report the throwers. You do your best.
- You can switch to a DPS or tank just to prove your point but IF strat is your best role, stick to it.
- Boost the highest DPS player
- Heal only those who contribute, whoever contributes the most. Tanks take up a lot of your life orbs so choose wisely.
- Boost yourself and aim at the head to up ur ult
- Use your ult beside objective and keep spamming pings to tell people to go there
IGNORE everyone - Mute + Block chat if you have to just to attempt to win.
1:05 in, I was sold lol subbed 💯
It took you that long? 😮💨
"you should play thinking that every game is winnable." That's the exact mindset that got me yelled at in bronze when 5/6 teammates voted to surrender and i told em I didn't hear no bell
Was stuck in gold. Used the off-angle and played more aggressively and just Diamond today. Thank you sensei
I literally have:
Mantis = Lord + 4.4k+ assists. 75 is my best in 1 match
Cloak & Dagger = Centurion + 1.1k assists.
Now i need the same aim and flick shot skills u got 😢
This is what I've been doing all the time as a support, especially on Mantis, and reached Diamond 1 with less than 20hrs.
Controller just feels so egregiously difficult for me
just play more
I suggest you look at your settings and fiddle with the aim assist settings. Eg. Increasing window size and lowering/increasing ease in dependent on whether the character is a hitscan or projectile.
Also fiddle with the aiming techniques.
@elderscrollslad3062 What exactly does "ease in" do? I saw it when i was changing my sensitivies and such the other and was curious as to what it does, so i didnt change it yet
Awkward can you show how to play Cloak & Dagger? I hit gm with Mantis but she gets banned often and Idk how to play Cloak & Dagger correctly
basically play her like he does the mantis, just make sure your team has high hp before going in for dmg
And you can switch without cool down
This video single handedly helped me understand hero shooters (never played one seriously before) and now I’m well on my way to diamond as a DPS / Mantis player
Please make more content like this man this is awesome
28:25 Cover is underrated, and especially in this game. To be fair, the hulk player was very bad, but I survived as mantis on empty cooldowns just but moving close to objects and playing "ring around the rosie" 😆
I was playing this character all wrong. Was damage boosting teammates too much and not myself. Though fortunately you dropped thos video and now I'm carrying my games. Even though i never have the most damage or heals, my friends see im carrying game after gane with all my kills
Great to see the educational content return bro, missed the long form u2gm/guide kind of stuff coming up frequently. Hope to see you making more Rivals content, Awk
The way you break the gameplay down and overall premise is insanely well done. Thank you so much for the info, I beg for a hulk guide lol. I feel like I get a lot of value on hulk but I find myself getting massive loss streaks despite svping at least half.
i started the game 2 days ago and only mantis and i became plat 1 because of her. and this video helped me a lot! sometimes i don't know what to do and just stay with my mates and don't look for an opportunity until the opponents push to me. The tips are really good because I'm always afraid that I'll die alone and end up 0-30 lmao
Every time I shift to an off angle, I just get flanked by a Spiderman/Blackpanther that my team has repeatedly ignored the entire time.
"tHe EaSy WaY tO cArRy" well im not you sir 😂
It's easy to carry. Just be one of the best gamers in the world. 🙄
@TyLovePie there are not many as @Awkward2
You don't have to be awkward. Just knowing when to fight, when to off angle and when to heal, as he showed will improve your ranked gameplay. That doesn't require mechanics, just a little game knowledge and awareness.
@adeeshadeegala5900 True, but he is talking about carrying. To carry, you have to do those things and get a lot of headshots and never miss.
I would see myself as Ace round1 and the enemy team would adapt and I would take heavy pressure & couldn't figure out how to put out value. But now I understand why I'm even Ace'ing these lobbies & what I was missing to continue to carry throughout the game. Thank you
I got to gm on mantis just by using your zen tips from OW, after this vid im headed to eternity
used the strat and instantly got better however I struggle with my aim.
Take a shot every time he says "natural cover"
BEST IMPROVEMENT VIDEO EVER
i watched and played mantis for the first time but it felt like i played her forever, got mvp in my first round ever with 15k damage, carried them completely. Thank you so much for this video!!!! still 10k heal btw
well dont forget aiming is also important
I really appreciate this complete breakdown. I'm very new to games like this.
You are my favorite person to watch to get better, in ow I watched your tracer video and went from diamond to grandmaster in 1 week I can’t wait to see your MR content
My only weakness is missing my stun on those sneaky flankers (Iron Fist/Psylocke) trying to chase me down :(
Thanks, this vid's really useful.
@howyoulookrightnow5897 They nerfed Mantis damage, so this guide is now irrelevant as it stands.
Dmg boosting spam or consistent duelist works very well, a moon knight gets alot of value, especially as it's very hard not to be hitting enemies
Love having 52 minutes of content from Awkward. Way better then a 10 minute video imo, although sometimes those are necessary too
in fighting games, that mindset is the only way to get better at the comp level.
This guide was extremely helpful, and I love Mantis, but there are a lot of Mantis insta-lockers in the lower elos haha, so I need to learn more heroes too :) Thanks for the great content
As a Mantis player all I can say IS, *"MY ANGER IS HEALTHY"*
THANK YOUU I WAS WAITING FOR YOUR takes on mantis im so happy you made this video ❤❤❤
Wow, a guide that doesn't take place in the practice range
This was a great video. Not just for learning Mantis but delving deeper into mindset in general. The Support, not healer comment set me off 🔥🙌 thank you for the wisdom
i watched this video on a loss streak played a game and went 38 and 0
I love how you’re like “yeah wow, I was being stupid but still, I’m the best and we won because of me!” lol love the video brother! Thanks for the tips for real!
this taught me so much, please do more
Been waiting for you to drop these videos. I literally hate how anybody else explains such a game. Wish you the best bro!
1:55 words to live by
completely agree with you. but this game is easier than ow. as long as we played ow before
For players with bad aim like me, take some time to change your Crosshair in the settings and go to practice range to try it out. From OW to Rivals, the FPS to TPS perspective will change how you aim. The closer you are to the enemy the higher you have to aim above the enemy to get headshots. You could also aim slightly to the right of the character model due to perspective again. Lastly change your dpi/sensi to something that is manageable for you
If you click the middle mouse button while moving your mouse you can turn the camera in the replay to look around. I don't know why the hell out of so many ways to make you turn the camera they made the middle mouse button a keybind but ok. W video
The cover tip really helped looking back i play in the open alot
this is one of the most COMPREHENSIVE guide to Mantis and to the fundamentals of the game! KEEP IT UP!!
Bro headshots 90% of time, if you can’t shoot in the head this advice isn’t for you.
Ur attitude towards winning and losing and how u put it on yourself is something i aspire to be able to do, instead of screaming at my teammates
i came here after wondering why ive been getting bullied by mantis' the past 2 days. great guide! love how you explained it. so simple. the enemy is not going to shoot ur team when theres a mantis shooting them in the face.
pro tip: you can hold right click to look around in replay
"my nickname is awkward" immediately relatable I gotta say
Happy to see you making educational content for marvel rivals. and glad its mantis too! thats who ive been maining. she just has peak value
Do one for Cloak and Dagger.
Seems like i intuitively was using the damage boosts correctly. I always try and hand one off to a panther, iron fist, spider, or dive tank whenever they're running in or I'll give it to a dps who's going to start shooting within the next half second
