I was homeless for 8 years
I'm 71 years old and so miss my Dumpster diving days. I'm so excited for you. What an awesome haul. When I did dive I would take home large casses of Eggs, Gallons of Milk, large boxes of Bananas , Cakes, and tons of other types of food Ect. One of the Stores would put the cases of ,bananas ect . out for me intentionally so I wouldn't have to go into the dumpster. They were very accommodating . At any rate you need 5 stars just for what you do. I never donated anywhere due to having had 14 children of my own. But I want to say God Bless you for what you do for those children. And many more happy dumpster diving days to you and your friend.
I'm a former pediatric nurse. If your little ones are ever have a bad fever you can place cool washcloths under each armpit and that will help as well.
And behind their knees and their groin as well

My husband always says pits and pubs. We’ve used ice packs when my daughter had fever seizures. Helped a lot!

Why can't they just buy food
Jesus would be crying if He saw the way the world is today. Dumpster diving to reclaim stuff that Corporations throw away every day? There is a BIG problem and Jesus does not seem be helping. If He did, would He be getting in them dumpsters? Sorry. This is chaos.
Absolutely crazy how much food that these stores throw away it's unbelievable. I don't understand why they can't donate it and the company use it as a tax write-off. Thank you for getting in those nasty dumpsters and getting out in the snow , the rain ,the cold and the heat to help people. God bless you
Write an email or letter or call your state representatives/ governor/ senators and city councilors. Why? Tell them you want a zero food waste plan implemented similar to what France (yep the WHOLE country) implemented back in February of 2016. Nothing there that could be donated to food banks or charity goes to landfill.
How but giving their customers a break and mark it down not just staples but all the stores
@@roseserna2860 they won't because it is cheaper to throw it away with the way the laws are written now than to donate. It is truly disgusting on so many levels. Some families, like Freaking Frugal feed their families with their finds and others in their neighborhoods. Just Me...Cathy, Grab it Fast, Crazy Family, Grizzley's adventures and Bin Living with Big B donate to churches, blessing boxes or little free pantries. The amount of waste out in corporate America is dispicable. And we as citizens are complicit. And yes, I grew up in PA was born north of where Shannon is, and I may be an expat living in Canada. I still petition governemt on both sides for fair pricing and better regulations.

So hard to believe that these places throw all that stuff away when so many are suffering out here that have nothing . It’s wonderful that you guys do this and donate to those in need .
The stores can't donate due to written laws 😒 I wish it was legal for the stores to donate to the homeless, church's and shelters

Ok,it may be true that stores may have some sort of laws or liability issues surrounding how involved they can be in donating and whatnot, but what boggles me is "why dumpster divers or whomever can get "Busted " or in any sort of trouble sorting thru trash 🗑 ?

I discovered your channel by accident about a year ago? OMG am I glad I did!! Shannon you are such a blessing to escape in this crazy world. Thank You for the joy you and Beth bring to so many and for passing along all the blessings from your dives. I was just amazed at all the food that would have been thrown away if you hadn’t saved it. All those kids who you help, are future astronauts, or lawyers or doctors. Believe me they will never forget the kindness of you their personal angel.♥️♥️
It always makes me so mad to see how much stuff that stores throw out. There are so many people going hungry in this country and they throw it in the trash. What you do is amazing! You are an inspiration to so many people. Sending blessings and good vibes your way.
I agree, you DON’T need disposable latex gloves to change with every dumpster. What you DO need is a pair of thick leather work gloves that will protect your hands. Wear them every time you dive. At the end of the night, spray them down with Lysol, inside and out, so they’re ready for the next trip out. Protecting yourself from germs is important, but protecting your hands from cuts or needles is more important. Make sure to take a shower, wash your hair, and throw your dirty clothes in the washer. Lysol (spray) the interior of your car and the inside/outside of the bags you use as well. I would disinfect the outside of all the sealed packages as well, even the non food items. Just dunk them in a bucket of hot soapy water. If they can’t be dunked, wipe them down with a disinfectant. Do basically what we’ve been taught to do during COVID. Protect yourself and your family. Dumpsters have infectious diseases and bio hazards, and they are no joke.

Well said 👏👏 We all appreciate her work but we also appreciate HER as a human and with that means her protection when she goes into the dumpsters!!! And to disinfect the items (especially during COVID times).
All items are sprayed with Lysol in my driveway before they come into my house. Also I obviously would never put my family at risk during covid. I understand your concern but I’m good thank you. I take showers wash my hair clothes etc the second I get home. I don’t think I need to explain that, thought that would be assumed lol. But I don’t wear gloves bc it’s hard to open the bags up & when the stores are open & we need to be fast I don’t got time to mess w gloves 🧤. Also I’ve never seen one needle in my 3 years of diving in a dumpster. Seen them on the side of the roads but strangely never in a dumpster. But then again I’m not diving in dumpsters that have medical waste in them. 😉
@@dumpsterdivingmommaof2 Plus I don't think most drug addicts are thinking clearly enough to say "I should throw this dirty needle in a dumpster so children don't pick it up and get hurt"!! 🤣 They just toss them in an alley where they're shooting up and then they walk away or pass out.

This is my first time watching you. It is unbelievable! Just trying to understand why they throw this stuff away. Is it expired? I know you can still eat it after the "best by" date, but I know they can not sell it. Is that why? You are an awesome person to qork so much and still do this to donate.

Its expired. If we eat it and get sick they are liable. I'd love to take home free stuff but then again, if I was bringing home free snacks I probably wouldnt be as quick to pull items off shelves to be marked down for sale, which makes them lose money.

@@darealskittle8732 it’s not *expired food* there is just best by dates that are estimates for food freshness. Some foods spoil prior to these dates. But like the other commenter, company can be liable for a sick employee.
Shannon & Beth you gals amaze me! You put so much of yourselves into hunting all these dumpsters down from town to town then getting it home and unpacking , sanitizing, separating and then getting it dropped off to places you donate to . Wow the kids at the church are gonna be happy and Woman's Shelter too.We need more hard working ladies that really care like you gals!! And to think this all could've ended up in the landfill is disgusting, that was one heck of a hauls ladies. Congrats!!!! Stay safe

This is cool. I go behind the Lowe’s by my house and pick out wood they throw away, I’ve made a whole garden out of the free wood :) it’s all heat treated so it’s perfect for all kinds of weather!

I would not be able to see a child go hungry it already breaks my heart to see kids I tbe store and the ask for something and they get yelled at but you see there parents holding a drink and candy or chips or whatever you no. I'm so very happy to see you and Beth saving food to give to the children so they will have something to eat. This breaks my heart. Thank yall for helping those kiddos.

OMG! It's close to midnight, and you've got my husband and I laughing till we are crying! I had a tanning salon for years, and I fell asleep all the time, but it was after hours! LOL. When you said if it had been on, you'd have been burnt to a crisp, I lost it. You are a riot. Thanks for sharing your most embarrassing moments, we love them!!!

@@fuzzball4258 it’s not against the law. When I worked for Panera, we donated ALL fresh baked goods left over to multiple churches etc. The only thing is they were in charge of coming to get it. It’s such a shame this is even allowed in USA. So many people need food.

You Maybe it’s not illegal but I think it’s kind of disgusting. I personally would never feed it to my children. Who knows what’s crawled on it big it comes directly from the store that’s fine. But from a dumpster? To me that’s different. Maybe I worded it wrong. Not illegal but disgusting. Someone may be down and out but they aren’t animals. There are plenty of resources for food. I hope your baby feels better. Don't forget to take care of yourself. I was in the ER last night and ky BP got up to 210/90. Beung their spiked it, when I got there it eas 203/90. Girl I did that when I had migrains. I went to one and wanted 5 minutes they put it on for 30 minutes. I was fine when I left. Not even 10 minutes later I looked like a legit cooked lobster. It hurt to move for a good week. I put aloe in the fridge for some relief. As some as I put it on, the aloe was hot. It's 9PM here and it's still light out. GOD BLESS YOU for helping feed so many babies.

I used to work in the same mall as a bookstore (back when smaller book stores existed). Their dumpster was near where the employees were asked to park, and they would always be throwing away magazines and books. The only thing they did to destroy them was remove the covers. They were always still perfectly good otherwise, so I used to get my hands on lots of free reading materials. I would then share with my mom, aunt, cousin and sisters so at least 5 people read the free things.

I fell asleep waiting for the chiropractor . He put a muscle relaxer pad to loosing me up and omg it was quiet and when he came back to adjust my back I fell asleep and woke up drooling 😂😂😂 I was embarrassed too😂😂😜 when your a working mom those relaxing moments omg lol haha.
