Canon FD SSC 35mm f/2 (concave)
    Canon nFD L 50mm f/1.2

    Olympus OM Zuiko MC Auto-W 35mm f/2
    Olympus OM Zuiko Auto-Macro 50mm f/2
    Olympus OM Zuiko Auto-Macro 90mm f/2
    (All black nose)
    Some findings:
In terms of color the FDs are the warmest followed by the Leica Rs. The coolest are the olympus, which seem to be very neutral. The Leica Rs have a noticeable (and typical) green tint. In terms of sharpness and background separation it really depends on the lens. The 21mm Leica R is a really nice lens which is still under the radar in terms of price. It gives you typical Leica colors and still has nice background separation at f/5.6, an aputure where the canon gets a little flat in my opinion. The Olympus is the clear winner in that focal range, but obviously is insanely expensive these days. Have a look on how it has more background separation at f/4 then the canon at f/2.8 - crazy :) At the 28mm range i wanna point out the Leica R 28mm Elmarit, which has such nice Leica colors and a really pleasing bokeh (and still is one of the cheapest Leica R lenses to this day). The 35mm Summicron-R is probably the nicest lens out of the bunch and looks like a high end cinema lens to me, way better then the other 35’s in the set, although the Canon is sharper. The 35mm Zuiko is probably the one to avoid in you OM set - the 40mm (which is not a part of the comparison, except the very last shots of the lenses in the outro) is on par with the 35 Summicton though (in my opinion). In the higher focal ranges (50mm & 85mm) the Canon FDs really shine. If you stop them down to f2 they have the smoothest bokeh and are by far the sharpest lenses.
    Color grading:
Color space transform in Resolve from Panasonic V-Gamut/V-Log to Arri Alexa/Arri Log-C. After that I just applied the standard Alexa to Rec.709 LUT provided in Resolve. I also applied a gamma compensation LUT that I created for myself to every clip before exporting - that's it.
    Gear used:
We wanted to do a real life comparison. That's why we filmed everything outside in daylight. In order to see how the lenses cover full frame we used an external recorder (Blackmagic Video Assist 12G) on our Panasonic S5 and recorded everything in BRAW 8:1.
Tell us what you think and feel free to discuss your own findings in the comments!
    Cheers,
    Max

Thank you, first time I've seen nearly all the prized Zuiko f2.0 from 21mm and upwards what I have.
By the way, Zuiko f2.0 is not anymore a budget option. Paid about $ 400 for mine, but the eBay prices have skyrocketed in the last few years from US 2500 to 7000.

I think the OM are mostly underated. It looks like it has the best 3D characteristics of the three. It tends to separate the subject from the background better. Also the way it handles flares whilst maintaining and retaining the beautiful colors and contrast is outstanding.

Excellent work, the Leica's are fantastic. But unfortunately, way beyond what I can afford, right now.

I love mine Leica R lenses on mine GFX. The colours are incredible and often the sharpness is as good as a modern GF native lens

I really like my Leica R's on my S5. I need some wider lenses though. The widest I have is a 50mm Summicron...

A lot to unpack. I was really surprised by the FD. The 35mm FD! The OM 21mm F2.0 @2 I thought it looked great. I like a German stuff but nothing really jumped out at me has been spectacular. Leica R is expensive.

Skin tones on the Leica R are better on almost every lens.

Hey, does the Zuiko 50mm f2's front element rotate while focusing? IE would a matte box spin if one was screwed on.

This video is awesome! Thanks for sharing some high quality footage! So whats the verdict in your opinion do the leicas live up to the hype?
They seem a little too clean relative to superspeeds? But relatively affoardable.

I also saw that you have the Super Takumars (correct)? I have them and I don’t really like the color rendition and vignetting and different color shifts between my set. You think it’s worth it to upgrade to the leicas?

Hi man! Thanks a lot :) I actually can't compare them to super speeds as i have never used them. I wouldn't call Leicas "clean" although out of the vintage lenses they look kind of modern but not in a bad way, i think they are just very versatile so you can use them for every project. they are definetly overhyped in my opinion although i am the guy that owns the leica set, my friend owns the fds and olympus lenses. I gotta say that every set has it's unique look and i would not call a set better or worse, just different. That being sad, the leicas are really (REALLY) nice lenses :D. There are some leica lenses like the 35f2 which is insanely nice obviously and totally worth the money imo. Oh and: I used to have a couple of Pentax SMC-M lenses which are really nice for getting into the vintage lens game because they are still so cheap and produce a very nice and retro image. In this case i have to say, that the fds, oms and leicas play in another sphere though.
