Just a historical correction, the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was in 1991 and not in 1989. In 1989 the Berlin wall ended functioning as an obstacle de facto dividing Berlin and pieces of it were deconstructed, despite the fact that Berlin was still de jure divided for an other year. The German Democratic Republic ceased to exist in 1990 when its territories were assimilated within the Federal Republic of Germany.
