    UXR at Microsoft here. Great video overall! One thing I wanted to add to help with scrappiness is to refine your data analysis/synthesis process, as well as your report/deck creation process.
    For data, codifying your qualitative findings (i.e. verbatims, clips, behaviors observed) ahead of time and utilizing templates or pre-fab spreadsheets can streamline the most time consuming part of the process. Similarly with reporting, utilize templates or patterns that resonate with you and find your flow with copy and paste to create reports that are consistent, error free, and speedy.

      Thanks for this comments Paul. It embodies your skill and experience and I see your willingness to share knowledge 😊 Will consider mentoring a Junior UR like me?

    Your tattoo is badass.
    But also, I’m in the middle of a boot camp trying to compose a research plan and this was so practical and helpful. I come from academia research so it’s hard for me to think outside of the “I must have x amount of users for this to be statistically relevant” and having my hypothesis checked and rechecked. The “good enough” is really where I struggle. Thank you for this!

    Good tips 👍🏼 I've done all these except cafe studies. You're very articulate in making these videos. Though I've done a lot I'm not able to recall or express these things in interviews. Your videos are helping me navigate it.

    Thanks for these amazing videos, Aona! This was actually one of the questions I got in my UXR interviews (too bad that you didn't make this video when I interviewed).

    I just found your channel today and, firstly, I'm binge watching it and, secondly, I want to thank you because I can tell you actually work in UX...This is soooo helpful, you have no idea. Any recommendations as to how to get to your research insights faster or developing the best mindset, or best tools for discovering them?

    Found this topic intriguing! In today's fast-paced world, knowing how to navigate between a scrappy approach and the more deliberate, slow-paced strategy seems crucial, especially when dealing with companies rapidly advancing pace of development.

    Thanks for the video Aona! I'm also curious about what people mean by research "rigor" as I imagine it means different things in different contexts. But it's also another term that I often hear about research, especially when comparing academic and industry research

    Hey! I was wondering if you could speak to the demand of UX researchers especially at the junior level or is it over saturated with people trying to switch careers? What are some other research jobs or other roles in tech that may be similar and we can apply the same skills and experience to?

    This is so helpful! Do you have an example of pre-study homework for participants?

    • @AonaTalks
      @AonaTalks  2 роки тому +3

      Yea! Say you want to know which websites they go to to shop for home appliances. You can give them a homework task to shop for a dishwasher and ask them to document how they did it and the websites they used throughout the process. Then you discuss them during your 1:1s with them.

    Hi Aona! Your channel has me so amped to get into the field! I graduate this year with an MS in experience design/ research. My question for you: from your experiences with UTs and IDUIs is it important to follow a script / to have a script for stakeholders to look at? I’ve seen so many diff styles at this point… is it just personal preference?! TIA

    • @AonaTalks
      @AonaTalks  2 роки тому +1

      It really depends on the project (how specific your research questions are). It's always good to have a discussion guide for stakeholders to look at (as a form of communication, and paint them a picture of how your sessions are structured). Generally, usability sessions are more structured than IDIs. IDIs sometimes were also called "semi structured" interviews for that exact reason. Hey Aona! I was wondering how you would go about doing "scrappy" surveys? Say for example, a startup wants to do a quick check on the level of interest in various potential programme offerings... is it possible to conduct a rigorous survey that doesn't require collecting responses from a few hundred responses?

    For someone trying to get into UXR would you recommend any beginner courses or bootcamps?

    • @AonaTalks
      @AonaTalks  Рік тому +2

      Eeek.. in this economy, I highly suggest not - unless they are free or very affordable to you. This is from a financial burden to ROI perspective.
