I finally got around to building my first ever box cam and it's been an amazing experience with the canon eos m. There's been so many advancements in magic lantern but I really wanted this little cinema camera to have some armour that puts it in a complete different category of camera. The eos-m, printed body, hdmi, mic & screen extension cable come in under $200.

Great job bud! A few improvements I think you can make:
1. Make the size a bit smaller if possible
2. Perfectly center the V-mount to the back and use a FX Lion 50
3. Get angled cables and clean it up
4. Use a Tilta Wood Right handle or Arri Rossete Handle to make it nicer.
5. Buy a proper nato rail monitor mount 🙂
6. Add 2 1/4 quarters on the bottom so you can add Rails system.
That should be it, I just bought a new EOS M for this so keeping a eye on it to see when you make the print plans available

Regarding your question at the end, I would really be pleased to invest in a crowdfunding for this project. I think that economic accessibility for a camera should be a principal matter to everyone, and it's important to show what can be done with a cheap gear if we are willing to learn it.

Hey Valentin, your comment struck a chord with me because it's exactly how I feel. I talk to a lot of people in less developed countries and the eosm has helped them gain a new passion, skills and some have earned enough money to buy other camera's and equipment and shoot full time now.
This project will help these guys take it another huge step but also it's great fun for people who just like to tinker regardless of their economic situation.
When I first got into camera's everything just seemed so expensive so I hope we can change that.

17:17 You're right. The way forward for high end camera's could be like building a PC. Where you customize all you parts (sensor, processor, lens...) according to your needs and budget.
If you develop a system where buying and implementing your own parts is reliable and cost efficient, you're going to turn the heads of industry giants for sure.
Yes a Modular camera would be a great step forward in tech. So many possibilities come to mind when you start toying with the idea.

Sometimes super high-end specs can't beat a tool with a tactile feel and a look that inspires us. I love that you feel this too - it definitely looks great!
Maybe you could add huge amount of personalisation to the camera too - custom colours! I love the orange, but I'd probably want the brightest yellow or green you could get lol.

Love it when creatives put their heart out on the craft! It’s a pleasure watching this and I’m excited about the V2. I surely will be doing that on my EOS M when it drops!
Here are some points that you might consider for v2.
- Nato Rail system for mounting monitor or maybe an outrigger style handle with monitor mount on the rail
- The tilta side handle for Komodo seems the most compact design I’ve seen as it sits very close to the body via nato rail
- If possible to have some sort of cable management built in the body would be nice but not necessary or some sort of holes for when attaching cable clips or smallrig cable management parts
- strong multiple 1/4 screw mount at the bottom so you can attach it to a rail system or atleast make any mount not twist making it more secured
- V-mount plate is nice, just need to secure it and make it centered for proper balancing
- optional - built it rod hole at the bottom left side of the cage is also possible considering the size of the cage. I can send you a sample on Facebook
Anyway, I love the samples on this video. EOS M is really a beast! Love the community! 👊🏼

@@Altcine Hey Brother, Got my eos M. Something strange though, need HELP. I went to install Magic Lantern and can't find firmware settings or menu anywhere. It does not exist, went on a bunch of forums and can't find nothing on this. The camera looks brand new almost, I'm so confused I watched every magic Lantern install video and nothing on this. I hope you can get some info my way brother. This is a mind fu**
You have to be in camera mode and using MANUAL mode to be able to access fw update features.

Great work. Congratulations. If you plan to develop a box for another camera, I recommend choosing the Micro Cinema Camera. This camera looks like it's meant to be integrated into a larger setup, more so than the BMPCC OG. I mean, it's harder to work with it in the form the manufacturers built it, especially in terms of the knob controls and the fact that it doesn't have a monitor.
Thank you brother, I think you're absolutely correct and that should be the third camera for conversion.
Its a lot more functional than the OG and we can put a dedicated cheap 3.5 inch screen in the body and make a hdmi out for bigger monitors.
Move the buttons to a better position and even use the Ursa controller for side handle control or the third party controller...lots of options with that cam.

I really appreciate the eos m or s16 pocket because of their small size, letting us capture amazing footage in situations that we otherwise might not be able to. That being said when you do want to rig them up it is awkward at the best of times. This kind of solution you've presented here is fantastic and I look forward to seeing it develop!

That's the way bro. A small pocketable one and beastly cine version.
Ive tried doing something similar with machine vision sensors and motherboard hooked to batteries. I found way more value since all you need is the box to have mounts for the board and can mount the sensor easily. Theres some ok UI software for controlling the record and quality functions. Plus you can mount multi card readers and all kinds of hard drive solutions that would be so hard to do just taking apart a consumer based camera. I did this on a full size motherboard but these days tiny boards have enough power to do this.
That's awesome man and definitely better value as you get to do it they way you want and often works out cheaper.
I remember watching a video when 3d printers were first introduced and the guy was saying that it'll be revolutionary as people will just build their own things. I guess in our case this is definitely true 😁

I love this! I had a similar idea a few years ago but didn’t have the technical know how or money pull something like this off.
If you continue on developing this kind of camera rehousing, I’d suggest trying a blackmagic pocket cinema original with the s16mm sensor and rehouse it into something like the digital bolex.
Hi Russell, yeah it's kind of a headache but eventually all the pieces come together. V2 is shaping up to be something awesome and much smaller.
So many people are like you & me and have these ideas to build our own personal cams and it's exciting that the project is well underway.

Thank you brother. Yes the sigma would be a prime candidate for box build. They can easily be reverted and the extension cables already exist.
I may tackle the FP because I think it would actually be the most worthwhile build over the older bmpcc's
@@Altcine it’s absolute beast for the price and maybe better than the hassle you have to go through for BMPCC OG.
You get the Slomo 120 and can easily scale and as it’s RAW you won’t notice much difference.
Let us know through next videos your thoughts on using Sigma FP for such build.

Amazing! I used to dream of owning and shooting on a RED but after finding out how disgustingly anti consumer and anti photography they behave with their patent on their 'revolutionary technology' of 'raw video compression' I just couldn't imagine spending 6k dollars ++++ for a super35 sensor that just dumps raw data, that's it.

Yeah RED screwed a lot of things for consumers. We would actually have a lot of options if it wasn't for them.

Well i now have a XL option in future. 2 I bought a BMPCC OG in 2019 and havent done much with it was offered good money to sell but i never did since it seems to be highly wanted and now here you are teasing me with a XL version i hope to see in the future. Damn... The 1080p raw you get out of this camera! I see everybody (including me) getting tons of chromatic aberration aliasing while shooting in this mode ( for example on foliage). How do you manage to get such a clean footage? You're the man!
