  • Applying granular fertilizer for a vegetable garden is not complicated. Fertilizing a garden can greatly increase the amount of vegetables you produce. It is better to apply fertilizer in small doses so as to avoid overfertilizing or preventing the dreaded fertilizer burn. Granular fertilizers are readily available and easy to administer. However, caution must be used to apply the appropriate amount per plant. Granular fertilizers are often made with salts that can be detrimental to plant roots and soil microorganisms.

I stick with synthetic because in my vineyard its much easier to manage nutrients and its cheap $20-40 for 50 pounds and I can do my entire vineyard on 2 doses with 2 bags twice per year and get everything my grapes need. I also put down a granular micronutrient and sometimes Ill put down pelleted chicken manure if i need more nutrients which is organic because it lasts a little longer between all of that I dont tend to have issues.

I use Yara 15-15-15 cause its not a salt at all has no salt or chloride content and will not burn unless you pile a ton of it up against a plants stem.

Good idea or bad idea? Fertilize with organic when planting and use synthetic every month to give the extra boost? Just thinking maybe it won’t deplete the soil as much and then you’re still getting the fast acting along with the slow release fertilizer? I was doing all organic and just wasn’t getting very good results I’m now going to try to combine in hopes to have a successful garden this year!
