Fatwood lying on the ground in the woods absorbs lots of moisture especially after 4 days of rain like we just had. With proper processing though, it will still ignite rather easily. Let me show you its favorite hiding places, how to process it, and how to ignite it with BIC, Ferro Rod, and Empty BIC. Please follow the LINKs below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You! When I was a boy in the North Georgia foothills One of my jobs was to collect “lighter pine” to start the fireplace in the morning. Watching your videos brings back good memories of those days. Thanks for taking the time to make great videos.
Thanks for your years of dedication. I’ve been busy for awhile. Now I have time to play catch-up and watch all i haves missed since last time Friend!!!

Hi David, haven't seen one of your videos in a long time, I just clicked on it and seen I wasnt subscribed any more I wonderd why. Any how good to see you are still at it !
Hi David, found your channel a week ago and have learned a lot regarding fat wood. I have a question: what is your experience with your processed fatwood? Does it dry out and loose its burning properties over time?

That’s not flint in a bic but a tiny ferro rod and if you hold it over your shaving and run the wheel backwards you can get a small pile of dust which helps ignite with a spark from lighter and. I think is an easier method I have successfully tested
Started with a 1 1/2 inch knife and an empty bic. That's not what you used. A fixed blade. Possibly a mora, hard to see, and a functioning Bic with open flame
Interesting stuff and some good advice. Here's some more good advice... NEVER go into the woods or the desert, for that matter, wearing shorts, tennis shoes, no hat, no matches, carrying no firearm and with cheap, flimsy knives. Bambi does NOT live there!!

Love finding fat wood like that. We got another 2” of rain here today.
We had a deluge of rain today about 2 hours after I made this video. It’s storming right now, 10:40pm.
What is the size of the PVC? I like it.Never thought of it as a staff. As always, plenty of INFO, even for us old-timers!
3/4". It flexes a little, but is ridged enough.

It dries out, but is only slightly less reactive.

Wrong on both accounts. LOL!

What kind of knife do you have in the video?
Mora Companion Stainless.
even a blind man with a white stick can find fatwood. Amazing
Cataract surgery in the next few months... around September probably.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl hope it goes well. Have recently found your site and am enjoying it.

Why fatwood and not pleasantly plump wood 😮
Oh no you didn't!
My apologies
My 12yr old son loves finding fat wood...
Now thats how you shave some fatwood brother
A nice bid pile of it.
Maybe that's what bigfoot does,... knocks on trees...? :)
LOL! Knocking out a flat spot so his UA-cam audience can better see the fatwood demo.
