    The current situation surrounding Tritium dials and hands is driven largely by all of these that were swapped out by Rolex Service Centers around the world, in favor of less dangerous Luminova parts. This policy has rendered original Tritium dial and hand set watches rare, desirable and expensive and the upward trend in prices will only continue.

    Really enjoyed the info and pointing out the small variants. Please continue to call them or and explain them!

    Thanks Austin for the soothsayer shout out very much appreciated - I'll go as far as to say tritium versions eg 14060 will be TWICE that of later Luminova in 20 yrs!

    Hi Austin, I enjoy watching your videos. You said that the M serials with 3186 movements are last of the 16710 models. Don’t the first ceramic 116710 models have M serials also? I have an M serial purchased from the AD in 2018 (NOS, probably).

    Great video. Really digging the 16710 pepsi. Eyeing a 2003 F serial full set for $19k. Reasonable?

      @watchsymposium  2 роки тому

      Thank you! That's quite expensive, but maybe that's the way prices are going. You could find more affordable full sets for that. But maybe I'm missing something, and that F serial is a NOS piece - then it would be a good price.

      @@watchsymposium Thanks Austin. Nope not NOS.... I wish. agree I should keep looking. Love the channel! Wish we could visit Japan/Asia soon.

    Hey Austin, love your videos on the 16710. What do you think an Excellent condition 16710 with 3186 movement is worth these days, specifically the rectangle dial?

    • @watchsymposium
      @watchsymposium  2 місяці тому +1

      It depends on the condition, but if I had one I wouldn't even think of selling it for less than 25,000 USD.

    Picked up an X serial 1991 Polar no B or P last spring in the US for about $6700.
    As I was living in Japan in that year it is exactly what I would have purchased if I had had the foresight.... Checking online a 16570 in 1991 was about $2500 new or now a little over $5k taking inflation into account while on chrono 24 today a 1991 Polar with B + P in Japan is going for $13K.
    But for context for all those who think of watches as "investments" if you had bought $2500 of Microsoft stock in 1991 it would now be worth $565,000!

    Just a point of personal preference, but I’d always chose a 16760 over a 16710 GMT II. I’ve never felt that the 3186 movement trumped the attributes of the original Fat Lady GMT II. 16760s are far rarer than the subsequent GMT II references and remain under appreciated and undervalued.

    Sorry to say crazy prices everywhere, I think I've missed the boat for a GMT.....unless the AD calls 🙏🏼

  • @DrRolexPhD
    @DrRolexPhD 2 роки тому +2

    As a new member of the GMT club, I love them all! But I think you'd have to go with the 3186 movement.

      You'd rather have a no-holes case with the 3186 than a holes case with the 3185? Interesting. I prefer the latter. I can live with a Nivarox hairspring. ;-)

    • @vrbanitas

      I think I would prefer 3185 with holes, but both choices are great.

    Very interesting video. Those prices are indeed a fair bit too high. I picked up a mint (unpolished) Y serial 16710blro complete set (with an extra coke bezel insert) for 16k CAD in October 2021. I went to my Rolex AD and was able to order a brand new 62510H jubilee with 502T end links for 1350 CAD. All I’m missing now to have the ultimate customizable 16710 is a black bezel insert. This piece is a reminder that not too long ago Rolex would allow a certain amount of swappable options to be had within certain models.
    Great channel Austin. Cheers.

      That sounds like an awesome piece, Martin! I love the Y serial configuration (and the P's and K's too).

    what is a thin flame dial? do u mean the fonts are thinner on the dial?

    • @watchsymposium
      @watchsymposium  2 роки тому

      2:35 This Ex.2 has a thin frame dial. The black painted surrounds on the circular indices are thinner than the surrounds on the 6, 9, and 12 indices. Contrast it with the Ex. 2 at 3:04.

    Rolex prices in Japan seem crazy-high across the board. All of those pre-ceramic GMT's are inordinately overpriced.
