Tiptop Audio and Buchla team up to bring you the Model 266t Source of Uncertainty. Inspired and designed after the legendary synths and instruments by pioneer, Don Buchla; the 266t will beckon back to early days of sound synthesis and bring to the modern day a key building block element to eurorack modular systems, random voltage creation and manipulation.

The colors on the jacks are meant to identify what its for, so orange will be a pulse input and red a pulse output. Black/grey cv input and blue/green/purple will be cv out. Metal jacks are audio. Once you get a feel for it, then it makes it easy to know what the module expects.

This review has let me know that this module is better than what I do now, plugging in random cables and hoping for the best.

Most electronic devices are better than me.

Best explanation I have seen. Makes me feel like I really understand it now.
Thanks for posting, and best wishes for your continued success.

Damn, the GAS is so real on this one. Great walkthrough!

Good direct info. One thing I long overlooked is that you can use the integrator to add voltage controlled slew to a sequence. Run the seq through and apply a gate to the time control on the steps you'd like to slide. Attenuate the level of the gate to control how much slew is applied, or run the gate through a VCA with a sequencer, LFO or other modulation source to vary the slew amount in either a controlled or random manner.

Great looking and sounding module, love the Buchla colored patch points.

Best demo I've seen so far. Thanks Nick. I am starting to enjoy your technique. Took me a bit. Sorry about that :) I love that you keep talking about your patch logic...even when it goes a bit sideways. Funny that...Source of Uncertainty going sideways. I think you are using it "right".... :o

Thanks for showing the outputs on Data. It looked like all the outputs are positive voltages. Is that correct? Even the noise outputs seem to be positively biased, which is very unusual. So I'm wondering what would happen if negative voltages were patched to the S&H or the Integrator inputs. Another observation is that the 266T has no internal clock.

This video is a huge help. I pretty much understood what the manual says, but didn't realize that the stored random voltage was quantized. That was my main problem with the module, the quantized voltages couldn't be attenuated.

@1:32 Why were these particular "colors" of noise chosen? White is an obvious thing, but the others?

It might be just me, but I find that while a visual representation of a waveform on the Data is useful, having the audio turned up is absolutely essential. We are talking about sound here, after all. That aside, good explanation- but a poor demo.
