    I garden in zone 6b. We have some pretty challenging weather sometimes. I don't claim to be an expert, so you will see my successes and my failures. I really appreciate feedback, so please say hi so I'll know you've dropped by.

    Really nice video I'm fixing to start some of those myself I grew the German Johnson last year and I was really happy with the production and the taste I figured I would try these also.

      Thanks! Yes, it never hurts to try. I've been growing mostly dwarf tomatoes from the dwarf tomato project in recent years. I've kind of fallen out of love with indeterminate types.

    Loved the video, I have so many blossoms and the plant is vigorous in growth but only a few tomatoes have set. Really enjoyed watching you try it out, looking forward to it! Thanks :D

      I hope it does well for you Renee! This year I'm growing several different dwarf tomatoes from the dwarf tomato project.

      That's pretty good size. We didn't have any get that big, but we sure loved the ones we got. They are pleasing to the eye too!

    Hey thanks for the seeds! I got them today. I live in zone 6A close to 6B. I think you get to plant out a couple of weeks before I do but they should do good in my area if they did well for you.I don't mind late ripening tomatoes either, a lot of the later one seems to taste better than the early ones. Not there there isn't good early varieties because there is. My tomato plants are doing well this year but they are all producing a little bit later than they have in previous years. We had a cold snap in May, where it was unseasonably cold for a couple of weeks so that probably has something to do with it. Thanks again.

    I got some seeds from Johnny's for this variety. Can't wait to sow 'em.

      Set on later than some. I liked the unique look of them.

      I've got a question. Of all the tomatoes you are growing this year, which one is performing the best for you? Or maybe a few of the top ones.

    • @thegardeningaddictchannel4112
      @thegardeningaddictchannel4112 8 років тому

      1. Indigo Rose - always loaded and was the first to ripen. 2. 'Noire de Crimee' setting on throughout the whole summer. Loaded with fruit and I like the taste of it too. This is my first year for this one and it's a keeper. 3. The Orange Rousslini tomato has been very productive, but it didn't excite me to much. It's a roma and orange one which never seem to have enough acid/tang for me. I have a few large size Golden Cherokee and Black Pineapple tomatoes growing, but neither one has ripen yet for me to make my final decision on them yet.

      Thanks a lot for the info. I might check into the 'Noire de Crimee' that sounds like a good one. It's hard to beat the indigo rose for production. Pretty dependable. I noticed a minute ago that you had a new video. I'll go check it out. Thanks again.

      Just put some of the 'Noire de Crimee' in my shopping cart for later. Looks like a really good one.

    I have a Striped German Tomato plant which is about 6' tall now. Lots of large fruit. One very large tomato is bright green and has been for a couple of weeks. Deeper color than a Granny Smith apple, and deeper than the others which are lighter. How do I know when to pick this tomato? It's quite hard to the touch still, but I don't notice the color turning yellow or red? Thanks.

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  5 років тому

      I always waited till I saw some color before picking. As long as they are starting to turn a little orange, it probably wouldn't hurt to pick them and let them ripen on the kitchen counter.

    Hi, I really enjoy your channel. I think I live in the same general area as you. Can you tell me if this Striped German is similar to the Old German potato leaf?

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 роки тому

      Thanks Mark! When I originally grew them, I thought they were two different tomatoes, but since then, I've read that it is just two different names for the same tomato.

    You planted it out April 13 in zone 6?..is Striped German hardy.enough to go out then?..I'm in zone 6.too and generally don't put my tomatoes.or.peppers out till late May

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 роки тому +1

      Stripe German will freeze just like any other tomato. Every zone 6 isn't the same. Also, every year is different. I like to plant early when I can, but in many years I can't plant till about the 1st of May. I normally get to about the middle of April then I take a hard look at the 10 day weather forecast for our area. I sometimes gamble by planting early and end up having to cover all my plants.

    October now, mine are orange . Are they ripe or did they get to the point they will never ripen to the correct stage?

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 роки тому

      If they are orange, they are probably ripe. Without a lot more information, I can't really say for sure from here.

    • @MidwestGardener

      Yes, a beginning gardener could grow them. As long as you give them plenty of support.
