The Royal Palace of Aranjuez is one of the residences of the Spanish royal family , located in the Royal Site and Town of Aranjuez , in the Community of Madrid . Construction 16th century. Opening 1523. Owner National Heritage.
Porcelain Cabinet It was the first major achievement of the Royal Porcelain Factory of the Buen Retiro Palace , designed and built by Giuseppe Gricci 's team and completed in 1765. Years later it would serve as inspiration for the room of the same name in the Royal Palace of Madrid , in a style closer to neoclassical than rococo . Around seven large mirrors and another four of the octagonal ones there is a neat decoration of graceful and lively eighteenth-century Chinese ornamentation, with oriental figures, dragons, monkeys, fruits and various objects among a tangle of branches and ribbons. From the vault, also made of porcelain, hangs a lamp of the same material that resembles a palm tree, with arms in the form of roots and a Chinese man clinging to its axis with a monkey that imitates him. The work on the vault was combined with the gilding and painting of the windows, stained glass and doors with passages similar to the decoration of the cabinet. With a historicist atmosphere inspired by the Hall of the Two Sisters in the Alhambra in Granada , it was built between 1848 and 1850 under the direction of Rafael Contreras , restorer of the Nasrid palace .
