    Another great video Matt. Seiko contracted Phillipe Dufour to set up the studio which does the high end GS and Credor production, hence the quality.

    Super fresh and super juicy. You are right about their quality; the barrel is the highest pressure point in any movement and when you jewel the arbor at the four wear points is brilliant

    For the diashock springs look up the video from its about time he goes in depth on how to remove those and maybe oiling it from underneath helps aswel.

    You can negotiate your energy prices 😮? We're in a 2000 square foot home here in Florida. I put the water heater at it's lowest setting and wired in a timer. Put all the light switches on motion timers. Set the digital ac timer for much higher temperature during working hours. Installed ceiling fans in every room. No led bulb has a higher than 40watt equivalent. And made sure none of the charing mechanisms that stay in the wall have a light that stays on all the time we call vampire lights. Got my bill down to $150 a month.

    • @HorologyBiology
      @HorologyBiology  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching 👍🏼 Yes you can negotiate and pay what you want a month, but don't forget that come the annual bill you will owe them a lot or potentially they owe you. I like to balance it out a bit. I'm suspecting given I pretty much froze last winter that I will break even given how much the energy prices shot up. Well I'm hoping anyway,

    Want to know which little jar you use that has a screen at the top where you stick the pallet fork in. Then shake it around to clean it, Great job on the grand Seiko.

    • @HorologyBiology
      @HorologyBiology  4 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching. It's a special glass jar for the Fixodrop to stop it evaporating. It also has a little net inside to hold the parts. They are ridiculously overpriced for what they are though.

    Regarding using TimeGrapher I've one watch which by TG is crap as it is "wobbling" cyclically over a minute of time, ten seconds fast or slow a minute. Probably there's something wrong with the Great Wheel as the amplitude is _very_ good. But then I've regulated the watch with the old school paper and pen method, getting it to run in my use very accurate, about two seconds fast a day.
    Trying to regulate that watch using TimeGrapher only would be like the dog chasing it's own tail. 🐾
    BTW some watch manufacturer have told opening those pesky shock settings on the bridges and base plate is unnecessary as they get clean enough during a proper automatic wash and jewels can then be lubricated using an automatic oiler through the jewel holes. But damn me if I'd remember what manufacturer it was...

    • @HorologyBiology
      @HorologyBiology  Рік тому

      These detailed answers are usually for my members 😜
      Have you made sure you have the correct lift angle set on the TG?
      I'm not sure about those shockers but I would be surprised if a cleaner did get up in there to clean them as they are usually just stuck together even when they come out of the machine. I remove them and clean them manually once I have cleaned the whole movement and there is always some dried oil still on there.

    • @Ba_Yegu
      @Ba_Yegu Рік тому +1

      @@HorologyBiology Yeah, the Lift Angle is correct for the movement. The watch probably would need a look, but can't be arsed as long as amplitude is good and the movement otherwise is surprisingly accurate.
      Steady +2-3s/day is something to reach for, not repair. 😁

    what advice do u have for someone that wants to learn all about the history of time pieces, and even more so someone that wants to get into horology?

    • @HorologyBiology
      @HorologyBiology  Рік тому

      That’s very broad question but I would say start looking at time pieces you visually find appealing, then research the brand of that watch. It’s amazing how much you will pick up in a short time

    So you don't like the diashocks? Sounds like a car mechanic who doesn't like Rolls Royces because they have so many cylinders. 😁Just kidding. Nice video. I like it. BTW: Jeweled barrels were also found more often in regular Seikos in the 1970s

    Am I trippin?
    4 jewels on balance wheel
    1 roller jewel
    2 on the pallet fork
    2 on the pallet fork pivots
    4 on escape wheel
    4 on 3rd wheel
    3 on 2nd wheel and
    4 on the barrel
    Adds up to 24 for me. Am I missing some? Cause it clearly states 27!?
    Am I blind? Or can‘t count?

    • @HorologyBiology
      @HorologyBiology  Рік тому

      😆 no no you can count. You have actually made me count and I got up to 25.. Now I'm also stumped at where the other 2 are. There is also one where the minute wheel post sits on.

    • @Nghdsjd
      @Nghdsjd 11 місяців тому +1

      @@HorologyBiology Yes, 26 for minute wheel post and 27 for a tiny screw-on plate with a cap jewel for the lower pallet pivot. The last one is missing from this one, and there's no place for it either, so I suspect the whole main plate is borrowed from a 25 jewel 44 King Seiko.

      Capped jewels give both superior lubrication and extend service intervals.
      That GS chose for this is a sign that they chose for engineering excellence. Something a watchmaker should appreciate.
      Cleaning and lubricating capped jewels is part of your job.
      That it means it's more work to service means you can ask for more money.
