    Well, Seiko took the patent for spring drive, almost a decade before the invention of the quartz barttery watch first was sold.
    That's mind blowing.

      @@ChronoglideWatchmaking @simkool77 According to Grand Seiko, each movement is resistant above 60 Gauss or 4800A/M. This is horrible in a mechanical watch, but spring drive is completely different haha. The escapement does not STAY magnetised after exposure and the effects toward time keeping only last the extent of the exposure itself. They say the worst case scenario is that the mechanism locks during exposure, but it will still revert back to normal in most cases.

    I can't tell the difference between quartz watches and those with silicon balance springs and unregulatable escapements.
    The second we need million dollar machines to make necessary movement parts, they're all equally unserviceable and reliant on the longevity of their maker.
    Might as well go for the accuracy. The watches with quartz parts are less likely to fail over time too. Quartz crystals, if properly sealed, should easily last a lifetime.

    12:43 Here's the heart of Spring Drive - the main spring driven gliding wheel, managed by electromagnetic braking system via phase-locked loop (continuous feedback loop from gliding wheel). Due to this Spring Drive doesn't have positional error rate and inaccuracy and isochronous error rate and inaccuracy, as in traditional mechanical watch with balance wheel.
    Amazing technology!
    Many thanks for the video!

      Do you know specifically how the IC knows how fast the glide wheel is spinning? For example, based on the amount of electricity being generated it can infer the wavelength velocity?

    How is spring drive different
    From kinetic?

    • @beardymcbeardface69
      @beardymcbeardface69 8 місяців тому +1

      Seiko Kinetic uses a weighted rotor, which is highly geared in order to drive an electrical generator, which then charges a capacitor or battery. That capacitor or battery then powers a regular quartz watch.
      Whereas in a Spring Drive movement, there is no capacitor or rechargeable battery. A weighted rotor charges a main spring, like a regular mechanical automatic, which then powers the movement of the watch. But with Spring Drive there is no escapement and balance wheel to regulate the unwinding speed. Instead in its place there is a fly wheel.
      To stop that flywheel from merely spinning at maximum rate and making a super fast watch, the fly wheel is electromagnetically braked.
      So, how is it electromagnetically braked? There is no battery or capacitor! The fly wheel also is used to generate electrical power, which is used to power a quartz circuit which monitors the speed of the flywheel and regulates that speed with electromagnetic braking.
      Spring Drive is a radical and major breakthrough in horology. 100% mechanical drive, electronically regulated, no battery, no capacitor, no solar and no stop/start torque spikes.

    I did not know about its existence up until now, however a couple of weeks ago I started to do a little research (surfing the world wide web) to see as how could I possibly grow my own quartz crystal at home and then how could I then possibly use it to regulate a mechanical movement as a demonstration piece in front of my entrance door. I did not come to a solution, but I see someone else was faster than me, just like with everything else I come up with. :) By the way I decided to watch all of the chronoglide videos in chronological order, but if you put up new videos all the time I will never catch up so please slow down a bit! :)

    However impressive, and I agree, I still can’t get over the fact that Spring Drive contains electronic circuitry. That prevented me from getting a Spring Drive some 10 years ago when it was falsely marketed to me as mechanical when in fact it’s a hybrid, and that just doesn’t appeal to me for the time being.

    • @beardymcbeardface69
      @beardymcbeardface69 8 місяців тому +1

      Spring Drive is mechanical and I would not even consider it a hybrid between mechanical and quartz watches, because the quartz functionality is not in any way similar to regular quartz watches.
      In a regular quartz watch, the quartz circuitry is used to *_DRIVE_* the movement, whereas in a Spring Drive movement the quartz circuitry is used to *_SLOW_* the movement. *_Radically_* different concepts.

      @@beardymcbeardface69 thank you for your dumb proof explanation, I understund it directly from video with ease but what I see people that rely so much on mechanical stuff can't understund clear technical explanations. Im curious why they are so much technical, mechanical oriented if they didn't understund how this system works after watching this video. For all who loves mechanical stuff in watches spring drive should be basick and must have knowledge.
