That’s exactly what “quiet quitting” is. Doing your job and doing it conscientiously, but leaving on time. If that’s not enough, the employer needs to hire more people.
Stop calling it quiet quitting or anti-work if you also say it is people doing what they are asked and not going above and beyond. That's doing your job.....
When you labour for someone other yourself, you are paying a capitalist, for a job they offer. You are now lining someone else's pockets. Why would you do that? Love?
As someone who worked with Boomers, Gen Z and Millennials I originally didn't understand why the younger generation was "quite quitting", but then when I saw how management didn't offer them any bonuses or extra vacation time in exchange for them working over and above what was required I then understood and agreed with them. One young girl said to me, "Why should I give my additional time and effort just so the CEO can get an extra 20% performance bonus and all I get is my hourly rate and maybe a thank you!" She stated her time is valuable and giving it away for free to an employer who doesn't appreciate her is not going to happen!
I also was in the same boat. I started realizing my life was being used as a corporate way to increase profits and throw as much onto me to help the company. Also, I realized what happens if I pass away; they are going to replace me. I am refusing to go into the bigger jobs for more money and valuing work-life balance and job stability.
The time during the pandemic was a blessing for me. I have a labor intensive job. I was very very burned out at the time, in pain, and sick. Because everything was slow, it gave me a chance to “rest” both mentally and physically.
I know the feeling. I gave it my all for a industry. Like the job, loved the people. I got scolded at for not being perfect. They expected me to work a T1 grade when I was just an apprentice T0. Got stressed out and went 3 months with no sleep. Got burnt out pycologicly. Lost my job. And ended up needing time in the hospital. Then found out i have Psychosis and schizophrenia due being burnt out. Now I am not allowed to drive and am working on my Dad's farm to pass the time. Not allowed to get a job. I don't see myself as a burden but am defiantly burnt out of societal perfectionism in work with a choke chain micromanagement. One day my job offered doing what job you would like to do. I got burnt out of one job, not wanting to make mistakes for my own personal needs, and switched to another. Just to get the old lecture about being a poor worker for being difficult about my own performance. I honestly don't get it even after working for 20 years.
Honestly 2020 was one of the best years of my life (plague aside). I had more money, more time, a better job, prices were lower, my mind was clearer. As crazy as things were it also put a lot into perspective.
I work from home full time and I love it! I can finally poop in peace without everyone in the office knowing how long I've been in the restroom or trying to come in when I'm in there. I can actually attend meetings (virtually) without worrying about involuntary internal gas sounds coming from my guts. I do the exact same job that I was doing in the office, but now I do it from the comfort of my home. The employer gets what they want from me. I get what I want from them. Everybody wins. That's a good thing.
@@pete5668 IT, Software Development, Software QA, Scrum Master, Software Project Manager, Data analyst, Cyber Security, Accounting. All of these can be remote
The so-called "Quiet quitting" trend is essentially how most people in Europe work. People put in the required hours but only do what is expected of them and are out the door by 5pm.
Well I work from home currently 100% of the time and have found one or two days at the office and WFM the rest 3 or 4 days might be a good balance to go. Working at home all time can feel isolated and it also blurs between leisure and work time.
The wisest thing that should be on everyone's mind currently should be to invest in different streams of income that doesn't depend on the govt. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world.>
All of 2021 and 2022, I worked a "hybrid" position, only had to go into the office 1 or 2 days a week. But for me it was a long commute for those 1 or 2 days (my office was in an area I really did not want to move to...too far from family, friends, good social life). In late 2022, I acquired a fully remote position. Life is good now. I hate offices.
The way I see it work to live and live to work is an endless loop. You work to earn money so you can live. And when you live you still go and do work work, since and repeat.
Nothing like doing above and beyond for your employer. Only to be told you're not getting a raise this year. Now working a job that pays me double and I work half as hard to get everything done. And my new bosses are very happy.
Most bosses are happy when their employees are miserable. They don't care in the slightest that it's more economic (even for their own profits) to have people working from home rather than operating their office space paying higher utility bills or even downsizing to either save money or make rent money for other people or businesses, and then there's the commuting time that could be made to good working use
This is really REALLY happening everywhere around the world. People are tired of commuting and spending most of the time of their day in an office. If they can do their job perfectly from home, what's the point of making them go back to the office? There's also this very wrong belief that people are more productive at an office than at home and I think, for many people (I'm not saying all), it's entirely the opposite. People want work/life balance.
How are you going to make clothes or grow corn on computer? Every "work from home" individual contributes nothing but wants to have food, clothes, car and buy gas. IDK if it is stupidity or delusion.
@@es6544, not everyone makes clothes or grows corn. There are plenty of jobs that require work to be conducted outside of one's home. There are others who can completely do their job from anywhere with an internet connection. There is no "one size fits all" approach to this. Its good that there are options. Find the type of work that works for you and let others find work that works for them. We are not all the same. What works for you might not work for me, and vice versa, and there's nothing wrong with that.😊
Framing this as "employees need to talk to their employers FIRST before they decide to get another job" is just the business community desperately trying to convince itself that conditions will flip back to being favorable for employers. I also wish I could meet the "journalist" that wrote that line, so I could laugh in their face and ask how the boot tastes.
I wonder why all of these news outlets look at it like the employees are doing less and walking away when instead they have been doing the job of 2 or 3 people all along. Do not blame economics on employees anymore and start blaming it on employers and staffing shortages, which is what the problem really is about. A good manager/planner would have redundancy or 2-3 people that have the same knowledge about a job criteria. That is what working effectively and efficiently is all about!
I work for a regional CPA firm. It's really depressing to stay in the office if you ask. I'm definitely more productive at home as I don't need to worry about lunch, commute and sharing the bathroom with coworkers! The most important is we barely talk to each other but teams so what's the point to make us sit in the office uncomfortably?!
Try bringing your bidet to work! Jokes aside, i shudder at the thought of using my work toilets. I might as well be considered a janitor by the time i am ready to go to the restroom with all the cleaning i have to go through.
But CPA industry is a horrible industry, as a CPA myself the amount of stress is very high. Public practice business model has not changed since middle ages and they expect accountants to grind out busy season through crazy hours for literally half of the year. Plus accountants aren't paid that well either in public.
I took part in the "Great Resignation" and now I am in Tokyo and having an absolute blast. Covid allowed me to take a break from work and really reflect on my career choice. I was able to realign my career goals with my personal goals. I left a job that paid $156,000/year and took a different job that only paid $70,000 but allowed me to travel all over the world, bring my family, and gives me a much better sense of purpose. Money isn't everything. Time is the only resource that can not be replaced. I am spending my time much better now. Spending more time with my wife and my kids. Covid was the best thing that happened to our family (as horrible as that sounds).
It's all about money, pay your employees decently and proportional to their duties and they'll be loyal, give them poor work conditions and low pay and they'll give you the middle finger it's just that simple, want responses after 5?? Pay for that.
Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Instead of trying to predict and prognosticate the stability of the market and precisely when the change is going to happen, a better strategy is simply having a portfolio that’s well prepared for any eventually, that’s how some folks' been averaging 150K every 7week these past 4months according to Bloomberg._.

I agree. Based on personal experience working with an investment advisor, I currently have $1m in a well-diversified portfolio that has experienced exponential growth. It's not only about having money to invest in stocks, but you also need to be knowledgeable, persistent, and have strong hands to back it up.|`
The examples of quite quitting given just sound like a healthily work / live balance. You should have your weekends to yourself and you really should not be checking emails after work 😮 unless there is a compelling reason that has been pre-arranged.
Exactly it is - and Boomers like O'leary can't understand that and in turn this leads to many issues employers have with finding employees and keeping them in the company. Upper management constisting of the older generation doesn't want to understand that the younger generations have different expecations to a job and companies who don't want to adapt will have more and more issus finding work force, maybe don't survive with the competitors.
I’m sorry but doing your actual job and nothing more it’s not quitting anything. It’s just doing your job and not going above and beyond. If you want people to do more you’ve gotta pay them more. At least give them a cost-of-living increase.
I can't stand Kevin O'Leary. He says people that want balance in life and want to be in their children's life don't work for him. Ok... and you think that's supposed to keep people from sleeping at night? 😂 bring your ego down big boy.
Leaving on good terms is horse puckey. Many jobs will mark you as Not Eligible for Rehire on a whim. It is totally up to the company. I am in HR, and one company I worked at made ANYONE who resigned for a better job as not eligible for rehire. Another would mark you are not eligible for rehire if you resigned without 30 days of notice. If you are going to leave, just leave. Most likely they will not rehire you anyway.
I worked in a chicken factory that was known for rehiring people who "just leave". It just goes to show that it's only because no one wants to work their and the ones that do are only there because no one else wants them
The wisest thing that should be on every once’s mind currently should be invest indifferent streams of income that don’t depend on the govt. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world this is still a good time to invest in Gold, silver and digital currencies (BTC, ETH….)
I have a huge problem with employers thinking that "being productive" means hiring people below living wages and expecting them to "live at work" and have no time off. Actually slavery is illegal, but wage slavery is perfectly fine?
It's important to consider manufacturing(through automatization) in our western countries that prioritize human rights and protect intellectual property, rather than relying on dictator countries like china and vietnam. This can help prevent situations where these countries use their power against us, as we've seen happen in the past. By being mindful of where we manufacture goods, we can make a positive impact on the global community while also protecting our own interests.

The days when employers thought they were doing you a favour by having you work for them is long gone. Its a two way process. Give and take. Give only what you are paid for and no more. Quit trying to please "above and beyond" whatever that gibberish means.
I personally feel like as we progress over the coming years many people will redesign their home and create a comfortable workspace to work from home. Modern and upcoming house architecture should incorporate this in their design. This will also help improve children and parents bonding time. Maybe the expense spent on travelling could help curb inflation.
If you're not paying your employee "above and beyond", why should you expect them to work "above and beyond". When you are struggling to pay the rent, yet your boss is driving a brand new Porsche 91, it signals that something is wrong in the labour market.
I'm Burned out and been burned out since 2008. Financially my life is getting worse . Boomers lives gotten easier and easier. Millinials lives are getting harder and harder. I'm a millinial male with adhd and I am tired! I can't keep up. I don't ask for much, all I need is a studio apartment, used car, and cel, THATS IT!!! I don't need a fancy house, nice ride, or infinite hot girlfriends, im a introvert anyway. All I want is a simple quite life, but I can't even get that. My rent is going up every year, my car insurance doubles every 6 months, and price for basic needs are high. I CAN'T EVEN LIVE A BASIC LIFE WITH OUT IT BEING F**KED UP! And I'm not a greedy person at all. I'm a strong advocate of the Maslow hierarchy of needs, ALL I NEED IS Physiological needs and Safety needs and I'll be happy, The belonging and esteem can wait. This society is too fast and demanding I can't keep up. I'm done! 😒
Why quiet quitting, IMHO, has become so popular is because in the US you're expected to give 110% at every job. And many, many years ago this meant that you had q solid opportunity for advancement and the company took great care of those A+ employees. Unfortunately, over time most companies don't care about their harder working employees. There's 50000 more on application websites waiting to take your position. So yhe opportunity tgat used to be there has shrunk greatly. People have noticed and are pretty much aski"why would i give so much to a company that carrs so very little about me, if at all?".
This video is already a bit outdated, as it is based on 2020 data and earlier. I am quite surprised that CNBC decided not to update it and just publish videos with old data. It doesn't take into account the rise of ChatGPT and other AI technologies. Also, it discusses Covid vaccines etc, which is less relevant today.
as someone who can't work from home because of the physical demands of the job, I still wish people who could work remotely do. As my commute is 37minutes when traffic is light , and close to an hour., but can fluctuate up to 1:18:00.
Ask your coworkers what you make. You will find out your company is taking advantage of its workers. And people are asking for a decent wage and I advise everyone to do so.
Kevin O`Leary is a funny guy😂. He talks as if everyone wants to work for him, because he sounds like a great employer.😂. He is out of touch and a classic example of the problem with employers.
It's sad that any life lessons about reassessing what is truly of value in this world, which people were exploring during the pandemic, is now gone and forgotten...back to business as usual- keep your head down and grind it out.
I've been denied a promotion/raise this year and have been told by leadership that "I just need to grow/develop more and they'll re-evaluate me in 6 months." Meanwhile we're hiring 2 new full time outsiders that I have to train that will be making more than me and I work more on-site hours than most of my team. Fine, I'm not going above and beyond for you anymore because I'm not being compensated for doing so and if these new people are going to make more than me I will personally make sure they sweat for it.
There is a flaw in all of their argument. It does not take into account the other side i.e. how businesses/bosses will reaction. The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. The is about driving down wages and benefits.
The issue is not rocket science, the constant rising demands for efficiency and efficacy in the work place over decades has culminated in the "robotization" of people and in burnout. Take for example Bezos' warehouses, his managers (under his leadership) count every single second of the employees time in order to make the operation more efficient, up to a point where people make their necessities in water bottles. Unfortunately this doesn't lead to better salaries for such employees, it just makes more profit for company owners. So not only do people work more than previous decades, they also earn much less in real terms (when adjusted for inflation). Think about it, how is it possible that even though productivity in general has increased over the years salaries have remained stagnant? do surplus productivity go off into space? Where is all that extra productivity going? You know the answer, just look at income disparity charts.
Companies need to be careful about requiring “hybrid” work. coming in once or twice a week after working from home for a few years is a huge lifestyle change and not necessary. If a company wants their employees to come to the office, they want to micro manage…..
I believe quiet quitting is going to save our society. If folks are quiet quitting that means folks will spend time with their families thus their kids won't grow up to be mass shooters!!!
38:00 At every job I was treated as a cost rather than a person. I asked an owner about health care (he had $10 mill cash in the bank) and he said he could not afford that for us, all 20 of us. He would ask me to pay because he didn’t want to break his $100 bill. He also paid for his personal house pool renovation with the businesses money. (Ran a hotel). Wow, rich ppl entitlement.
Nice video, I have been hearing stories of how people are making extra income from stock and crypto trade, Don't know how to go about that or if its true
So they mentioned that almost 90% of people want to work from home and they still insist on what they think is better for the employee? Is a joke! Most of the people do want to work from home and it has shown is more productive. Strange that this report didn't mention anything about the 4 days labor law happening in other countries.
NBC, please improve the audio volume of your videos. I max out my phone audio volume and it is still quiet for me. This issue is prevelant at section: What Coronavirus Means...
Companies aren’t offering really incentive to go above and beyond except maybe a thank you and if we are lucky a pizza party. Seen too many coworkers get “promoted” to special teams and given more responsibility and get absolutely nothing in return but more work.
All of these videos just highlight the real trend happening & that is wage suppression. Wages for the same job are at least a few dollars less than before. The reduction of wages is the future & it’s happening in every field.
I work retail and I can not tell you how many people ghost quit and think it's okay. No it screws over your working coworkers and it puts a negative review on your profile. It also labels many as not hirable upon return. This is an old vid but I learned a lot from it. My company will be merging and it's time to seek a new career path. Side hustles are a good idea. It would let me gain some experience while not fully quitting.
Quiet quitting is just Exactly doing what you are paid for. It should be normal. I don’t want to be harassed by my employer after work hours, work my butt of for scraps or make extraneous for free. They sure don’t. Or they’re in a whole different league of rewards. I’m done after 20 years.
The one thing I'll never understand is why companies expect their employees to go "above and beyond" when employees get nothing in return for it? 🤦🏻♀️
corporations have been trying to squeeze as much as they can out of people. and people are tired of it. low level and middle management can be really toxic and staff don't want to deal with this any longer. people can't afford costs of living on the salaries/wages offered while companies have ridiculous expectations and want someone with 5 yrs of experience for entry level jobs, but offer minimal pay, benefits, and toxic cultures. corporations are constantly laying staff off, not just due to the pandemic, but wonder why staff have no loyalty or low engagement. people are tired of supporting the dreams and costs of a completely separate class of people who are out of touch with the lives of typical citizens/staff. want engagement? do these things: root out toxic micromanaging "leaders", give people the freedom to do their best work and contribute, pay living wages, don't do things like demand doctor's notes for a day off, offer affordable health insurance, don't support toxic rumor mongering in the workplace... it's not hard. be decent to people.
Quiet-quitting is doing your job and only your job without going above and beyond those specs. This article makes it seem like the definition of quiet-quitting is to do less than your job requirement. 🤦🏻♂️
People hollered "minimum wage is for minimum skills" and "get a better job" and "well start your own business then" for so long that ppl started doing it when they had the chance (or no choice when the rug was snatched from under them). Now folks are shocked nobody wants to take the jobs they consider "low skill" just to pay the bills anymore.
In my opinion, some of the banks was attempting to restructure their bond portfolio, which involved selling their low-yielding bonds despite the potential loss, and compensating for it by buying higher-interest-rate bonds on the open market.
Inequality has been exacerbated since the pandemic. Until we go back to the economic values of middle class America during decades such as the 50s and 60s we will continue to see the upper strata of Americans pad their wealth not unlike the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts of the distant past while the low and middle income classes fight for jobs that don’t pay a living wage. And will be automated sooner than later. Note* not the social values or redlining of the past, but the robust middle class before globalization took millions of jobs and made the top earners wealthier than their wildest dreams. It goes without saying we are more divided and critical of the direction we’re headed than in generations. The world knows this all too well and it’s why countries like China and Russia are so emboldened.
the correct headline should be "How Work is Changing IN THE US". What's happening in the work environment in the US isn't the same as in other places such as Singapore, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, or Beijing.

Instead of having UBI, have better tax cuts for people in the middle class? That way work is still incentivized or Simplify the tax code? So we aren’t been taxed exponentially on our income?
Give workers more time off! If you have an office job why do you need to come in everyday? Essential workers need to have more paid time off and they need to hire more employees to fill in that gap.
Not necessarily true. I took a job last year that required me to pass a knowledge based and hands on based examination in order to be hired. I was told most people cannot pass these exams and therefore the company has been having difficulty finding capable candidates to hire. Took them 2 years to hire four electricians.

The so-called "Quiet quitting" trend is essentially how most people in Europe work. People put in the required hours but only do what is expected of them and are out the door by 5pm.
I am not in the US, but since the pandemic, i have really struggled going to work. I feel comfortable working from anywhere, but not at the office.
Especially with the current economic crisis around the world.>
ROCHELLE DUNGCA-SCHREIBER,...there you go!
Just put her name on google and you will be directed to her website and drop her your messages
@Maxtor we don’t need 10 hours lmao if you are efficient with your time you can get everything done in 8 hours still.
@@maxtor6416 That's gross
You mind me asking what you liked about working remote ?
Amazing, you made an hour-long video with about three minutes of actual content, repeating the same three points.
Work to live, not live to work. Life is about living and if workplaces don’t provide enough incentive (ie money/time) then it falls behind in priority
What makes it worse is with over 10% inflation in the last months you're not getting a pay raise you actually got a pay cut. 😐

Automation
What works for you might not work for me, and vice versa, and there's nothing wrong with that.😊
And what about all the emissions we saved? Like why must we burn our resources for their " perceived benefit"
I can do 95% of my job at home, but I work 100% of the time in the office. 😛 I don't know why I drive to work every day, just what the bosses want.
It’s a free country , employees are free to leave and work somewhere else .
Make the day more enjoyable

The examples of quite quitting given just sound like a healthily work / live balance. You should have your weekends to yourself and you really should not be checking emails after work 😮 unless there is a compelling reason that has been pre-arranged.
exactly what i thought 😂 like i will absolutely not be replying after work hours BYE

I personally feel like as we progress over the coming years many people will redesign their home and create a comfortable workspace to work from home. Modern and upcoming house architecture should incorporate this in their design. This will also help improve children and parents bonding time. Maybe the expense spent on travelling could help curb inflation.

Most of us will never be able to own a home, or afford to retire ever. This economy is impossible and pointless.

Re-run? I've seen this before.

Working remotely allows people to get jobs they can’t especially if they live in a small town or rural location.
It also increases the competition for that jobs. Local jobs do have some benefit.
Other countries: We work to live.
U.S. : We live to work.
Ask your coworkers what you make. You will find out your company is taking advantage of its workers. And people are asking for a decent wage and I advise everyone to do so.
I love remote workers! I hire tons of them from India, China and Mexico. Soon most companies will too.
Ok Kevin O’Leary

Kevin O`Leary is a funny guy😂. He talks as if everyone wants to work for him, because he sounds like a great employer.😂. He is out of touch and a classic example of the problem with employers.
It's sad that any life lessons about reassessing what is truly of value in this world, which people were exploring during the pandemic, is now gone and forgotten...back to business as usual- keep your head down and grind it out.
We, the people, it's what we tend to do. As a whole. 2008 showed us, that we just accept all the BS and keep on going as usual.
"they don't work for me" well they don't they're supposed to work for themselves businessmen are mad we're not lining their pockets
Quit quitting will only work for you if someone else is paying your bills period
Call if what you want. “Quiet quitting”, “coasting”, etc. it has always been. It’s not new. It’ll always be.
Slacking.
Kevin O’Leary saying if you’re a quiet quitting you’re not working for me as if people who believe in boundaries are losing any sleep over that 😂
There is a flaw in all of their argument.
This is very misleading, quite quitting term. Just because a person does their job and go home, doesn't mean they are not being productive.
Quiet quitting is just Exactly doing what you are paid for. It should be normal.

corporations have been trying to squeeze as much as they can out of people. and people are tired of it. low level and middle management can be really toxic and staff don't want to deal with this any longer. people can't afford costs of living on the salaries/wages offered while companies have ridiculous expectations and want someone with 5 yrs of experience for entry level jobs, but offer minimal pay, benefits, and toxic cultures. corporations are constantly laying staff off, not just due to the pandemic, but wonder why staff have no loyalty or low engagement. people are tired of supporting the dreams and costs of a completely separate class of people who are out of touch with the lives of typical citizens/staff. want engagement? do these things: root out toxic micromanaging "leaders", give people the freedom to do their best work and contribute, pay living wages, don't do things like demand doctor's notes for a day off, offer affordable health insurance, don't support toxic rumor mongering in the workplace... it's not hard. be decent to people.

People have worked from home for thousands of years. Not working from home is a recent phenomenon.

Give workers more time off! If you have an office job why do you need to come in everyday? Essential workers need to have more paid time off and they need to hire more employees to fill in that gap.
