I think we all buy tons of different products at first. It helps sometimes figure out what you like and what works best. I personally rotate between two oils, two butters, and two different beard shampoos and conditioners. Much easier to just buy the two brands I use and pay attention to how much I have left.
Very true you have to go a little crazy with it in the beginning to get an idea of what you like and how to care for your beard the way you like after learning about it. And then if there aren't samples or you just feel like going for it sometimes you regret it you didn't need it and you don't like it but eventually we settle on good products we like I will be buying things again like Shea Moisture beard oil and Honest Amish and maybe Beard Octane again.
Similar to what I do. I do two beard oils and two beard butters with very different formulas. Then I just do one beard wash and one conditioner, though I'm thinking of dropping the conditioner altogether.
I tried 2 stick wit my top 5 companies. For my type of beard I have 2 rotate between oil viscosity. I love cbd & bird oil but can't use it every single day. I can't go without conditioner. I started using beard products 4 styling & later 4 how my beard feels
Beard Octane LCW is the best beard wash that I've ever used. I like their oils too, but Liquid Gold is not a scent for me. I am one of those guys who bought so many products. but I'm slowly learning my lesson. I have so many oils and butters that I don't even use. I find myself going back to the same 6 or 7 and probably have around 35 different ones.
Just wanna say your videos are amazing 😁. Really straightforward and easy to understand. Wanted to sort my beard out and came across your channel. Keep it up.
completely agree with you I used to go out buying loads of different products thinking the next product I buy is going to be better than the last, now I Have 2 beard oils beard wash, and a conditioner that's all I need.
As a retired Barber of 50 years experience and a beard wearer myself I can tell you all hair is dead material the moment it breaks the skin and air touches it. Even if hair looks good it's dead. The only thing that penetrates dead hair material is an Amino Acid. With an Amino Acid you can improve the dead matter condition and structure. It's still dead and always will be but you can make it look and perform it's best. Unless your product is Amino Acid based it can only coat the hair. It may make it perform better as long as it's clean but that isn't for long. An Amino Acid based product however will keep hair conditioned for much longer then what tropical applications that only coat hair can provide.
Great video, Scuba! I appreciate how you always keep it real. I saw three homeless men the other day with big white beards. Their beards needed to be washed, dangled and styled, but other than that they had great big beards that I’m sure were never oiled, buttered, balmed or anything else. I am not saying these products don’t have their place, they do and I use them, but they might not be quite as essential as sometimes promoted. Seems like everyone is trying to build a bigger and better mousetrap, when the old one works quite fine. Don’t stay away so long my friend, the community needs you!
Yup…I thought about how it must have been back in the days. I have had men in my family who have had beards and I never saw or heard about them using beard products. We just live in a world of high consumerism. People are easily duped these days so if not why not? May as well just get on the gravy train.
Wow, respect for the honesty on this subject. Also, the timing of Black Friday being around the corner. I've been thinking I've gone a little too hard on product and need to chill out, using what I already have.
I really appreciate your honesty which is why your the only one I still subscribe to. I have a couple of brands I like and if I change oils it's more of a scent thing. I pretty much only use balm and a heat brush when I'm taking my wife to dinner or a large family function. There are so many unnecessary products now and frankly one brand in particular are spot on with all their scents, awesome, manly, and yeah beer and yet their beard products just aren't good for your beard.
Great video man.. so true.. I buy from one company (broke ass) as needed.. 1beard wash, 1 conditioner.. 2 different scented oils.. and a balm.. so many of these beard tubers.. have 10,000 products behind them on shelves.. these products have a shelf life.. one year or so.. and that info is from the beard companies.. crazy.. I fell for it at first too.. not now.. always appreciate your honesty.
My problem with Beard Octane has always been their scent offerings, even though their overall performance is great. I'm not into the mango-blueberry tutti fruity profiles and the few that I liked (Defiant) got discontinued.
Great content! I’m retired military for almost 18 years now. Decided to try the beard. I’m looking for a scent that pleases me. I’ve decided to stick with just a beard butter. I’m gather a lot of sample scents. Some free, some at minimal cost. I got one from a vendor. Supposed to smell like tobacco and vanilla,. Smells of mostly shea butter with a hint of the scents I was looking for. I contacted the vendor. Their reply was, they use “all natural” scents and that is to be expected, then offered to swap it out with another. I don’t want another that’s just going to end up smelling like shea butter. So far, Valor and Badass are on point. I will have to try your brand to see how they stack up.
@BeardOctane And you would get far more orders if your international shipping arrangements weren't as filthy as they are. 50€ as shipping expensenses for countries in the European Union? Are you serious? 🤣🤣
I only use oil and a wash, i dont like balm because i prefer the natural look of my beard vs a “uniform” look. Never tried butter but ive been thinking about adding a butter just for better hair health.
Beard Octane is my favorite beard wash by a mile. Beard oil is ridiculously expensive. I get mine in bulk from Adam’s soap wholesale it’s awesome and waaaaay cheaper.
I have used every oil and butter known. I always have a skin reaction to them. I get a rash underneath and hairs start to die out. Nothing works for me lately.
Random thought: I honestly don’t how can anyone claim a beard oil is “superior” to others if both contain the same ingredientes and have a decent smell. 2dlls oil vs 15dlls If both contain jojoba, shae , coconut oil, castor oil, etc. would virtually be the same, no matter the brand. I get that preference is involved, and some products have more appeal on packaging, smell, etc. but I’m pretty sure if someone used the two beard oils blindfolded for weeks, he would not be able to tell the difference, as many claim.
I just buy whatever oil has a beard wash with the same scent, and I make sure it has natural ingredients and none of that you find on the store shelves. Being from Sweden, I support local companies, and the best I have tried is Nõberu, and a Finnish brand Dick Johnson. Another is Mr. Bear, but I never liked their scents that much.
I use Argan Oil on my hair, on my face, and on my beard. It conditions each, without leaving any greasy residue behind. Quickly soaks into skin and/or hair and softens gently. All you need is about two drops.
Hey Scuba. I've always loved your videos. This one was a great topic. Way to keep it real. I'm actually a user of the Beard Octane LCW. I only use it once or twice a week. Keep them coming. Oh yeah by the way, I think we may be neighbors. Let's go riding sometime. Wind therapy does wonders 👍
Scuba, some people claim that washing with a conditioner would clog your facial pores. They claim that it should never be worked into your face just applied lightly to your beard hairs. What are your feelings about it clogging your facial pores? Thanks in advance.

I know in this video you mentioned beard octane, but wanted to know if there were any better brands to go with. What are your thoughts on beard struggle, johnny slicks, and beard brand?
Beard octane is great. Some other great ones that I know Scuba signs off on are Luxurious Bastard, Kingsmen, and Detroit grooming. Havnt tried slicks or struggle but am not the biggest fan of beard brand personally. Expensive and products are just ok imo.
This is the best beard channel. Its real and down to earth and as you said simple. A manly channel not like a lot of the other pretty boy beard channels.

I've never heard that acronym! Very good one, actually :)
@@BeardTube To make a short story long, years ago I sold mini-computer systems with custom software designed for just about any customer’s needs. I went to a lot of trade shows, of computers and target industries. A popular acronym of the time was KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid. The motto of an exhibitor selling systems to track time in factories (clock in and out, record processes, etc.) was KISS OFF! - Keep It Simple, Stupid On the Factory Floor! Must have been around 40 years ago. Maybe someday I’ll forget it!
