The USA and Germany are the only countries to have won Women's World Cup more than once. I would say Hope Solo's rival for the best goalkeeper of all time in the women's game is Germany's Nadine Angerer. She saved 2 penalties in the 2013 Euros final.
Angerer was also the only goalkeeper who managed not to concede a single goal in an entire world cup (2007). I think all in all Solo was slightly better, but I agree Angerer is one of the two best female goalkeepers of all time.
At 11:16: 540 minutes without getting scored against in a womens world cup can't be a record. In 2007 Germany won the world cup without conceeding a single goal, so they had a 630 minutes streak.
In 2007, the WWC was only 16 teams. So, Germany had 3 group games, then QF, SF, Final. Six games, 90 minutes each, is 540 minutes. Tournament didn't expand to 24 teams (and thus an extra round) until 2015.

Pia Sundhage described her best. "She's the best goalkeeper in the world, but she's a piece of work." Her temper, her lack of impulse control, and her refusal to take accountability had been hanging over her like a dark cloud during her whole career, and it eventually overshadowed her.
And the elephant in the room that her teammates won't talk about: she was a problem alcoholic. They swept that under the rug as long as they could. It would still be a question mark if she hadn't been busted red-handed drunk with her kids in the car.
I am going to be a man here and admit that she was my favourite player from the very first time I saw USWNT, just on those striking looks undoubtedly evidencing native-american ancestry. USWNT was so dominant back then (2011) that I never really appreciated just how much of a stand-out goalkeeper she was. Looking back though, it is fair to say I never saw her make a mistake. I also loved that fierce intensity. Looking at the clips in this video, she has made saves that MALE 'keepers might not have kept out. Fact is - with her mentality - the only thing that would have probably prevented her from competing in the men's game would be size: I believe she is (only!) 5'8 or 5'9. With her naturally wide clavicles and being generally big-boned, if she were just 3 inches taller I would fancy that she could have competed in the mens' game: corners are the major physical challenge for goalkeepers but even keepers the size of heavyweight boxers suffer the same exposure and vulnerability at corners after all. Even at 6'5 and 200lbs you cannot force your way through a mass of bodies quickly enough to get to the flight of the ball in time to even get a good punch on it. Now that we have VAR, succeeding in doing so would probably result in a VAR awarded penalty on at least 50% of occasions. When was the last time you saw the goalkeeper catch the ball direct from a corner in a top-level game? Having to stay on her line at corners would not be a liability as it is what male keepers are obliged to do 99% of the time. This may be an idle fantasy, but if another female keeper with Hope Solo's talent comes along, I'm pretty sure an effort will be made to get her into the mens' game. Certainly, she is the only female footballer I've ever seen who I can, hand-on-heart, say is indistinguishable in competence from her top-level male counterparts. As far as her misadventures with law enforcement go, the only position I have is sadness that someone I like has had to go through such difficulties and that I have faith and confidence that someone with her spirit will get a handle on the situation and get past those difficulties. I think it has absolutely no relevance to her professional legacy and it makes me have no less regard for her as a person. We know the police are just the de-centralized occupation army of the globalist elite in their rape of the rest of humanity so how does running afoul of the law make you a bad person? It is a rigged game. A more accurate measure of her character would be the number of times she was sent-off or booked with USWNT.
Any chance you could do a video on John O’Brien? Probably one of us soccers biggest what ifs, hampered by injuries but great when he did play(Donovan once considered him the best USA player), he also works in psychology now
7:15 "... police were called to the residence in Kirkland, Washington..." Shows a Chattanooga police car, which is 2,500 miles away from Kirkland. Somehow I don't think that was footage from the incident. Maybe if stock footage is needed, we could get footage of Kirkland PD or at least something from the region?
8:00 people always forget to mention that the nephew was 6'9 and 280lbs, to out into perspective was 17 and taller than the undertaker. As an adult, she had control in the situation but you cant get reasoning from a drunk adult. it was a messy situation for the family.
I'm in the UK. I knew about her remarks about Sweden and the resulting suspension. I thought that was unbelievably harsh. Now I know it was an accumulation of offences
I listened to her audiobook: Solo: A memoir of Hope. It certainly provides some insights into the volatility of her mentality growing up. Almost like she had this Solo vs. the World perspective. The situation with her father only added to that. That ferocity "chip-on-the-shoulder" attitude certainly made her a fantastic goalkeeper, but didn't afford her any favors off the pitch. She's too quick to speak her mind rather than taking a moment and considering her words/actions.
There is an error in your video, the USA was not eliminated in the semifinal of the 2011 World Cup in Germany, they made it to the final and lost to Japan
It makes me laugh when I hear the US woman national team talking about equal pay. Let's put aside the fact that commercially they make less and that the federation needs to take a part of mens money to pay them because I do believe they should be paid the same. However that being said, they are paid the same, just differently. Women decided to include healthcare to their benefits which is something the guys don't have which is why the money is lower. They were proposed to be paid the exact same amount without healcare and they refused. So basically they want the federation to make up for the fact the private teams they play for do not provide that Healthcare and basically be paid more than the men rather than being paid the same. If only they were straight forward and honest about it, it would at least be worth talking about but they're turning that into a croisade against inequality... So Hope Solo is not an example in that either
Some high achieving athletes are bad actors off the pitch. Balotelli for instance. Tyson and McGregor get into altercations so often. Usually people who play contact sports are feisty.
Germany women's goalkeeper did something that no keeper men's or women's had ever done, and hasn't done since in a World cup. In the 2007 Women's World Cup German keeper Nadine Angerer didn't give up a SINGLE goal the whole tournament. She even stuffed a penalty kick by Marta in the final game. She also won multiple European women's championships. She did all that without trashing her teammates, getting DUI'S, beating up family members, and showing her sausage wallet to the whole world.
She’s probably not the best role model to represent women’s soccer wage gap issues. If you are surrounded in controversy, an arrogant narcissist, and embody all bad moral judgment, nobody will care what your accomplishments are and what changes you want bring.
I remember when some salacious nude photos of Hope were leaked online years ago. She really did have a celebrity type of aura around her that reminded me of Britney Spears back in the day where she was even more famous because all of the controversy and questionable behavior. Make no mistake though...Hope was an assassin on the pitch and that look in her eyes when she was in goal was unmistakable. When she played the whole team had another level of confidence as if they were unbeatable during her era. I just hope she found the help she needed to find peace in her life for herself and those around her especially her family and her children.
So sad many celebrities ruined their life & career by the devil's brew alcohol & demonic psychotic drugs ... May Solo holding on her hope to make things right from these mistakes learnt! ⚽
i can totally relate with the feeling of watching the team plays second choice keeper and lost because of it as the first choice, i played as a keeper in my college before and it made me rage when they didnt start me and lose, its just i didnt have an interview to rant about it
Ms Solo, she was a very good goalkeeper, but not the best - in my opinion. This recognition goes to the only goalkeeper - worldwide - whether women or men, who managed to not concede a goal in the entire final round of a football World Cup, ultimately even beyond the final! The title clearly goes to Nadine Marejke Angerer, nickname Natze, "Natze", a mixture of net (like goal net) and cat - in German: Katze. World Champion in 2003 and 2007 - 2007 was also the year in which she achieved this success, which has not been achieved again to this day.
She was a good goalkeeper in a time that all female goalkeepers were bad now you have ten or 15 goalies around the world that smoke her out of the water She was just ahead of time

@Bloodhound789 im not a fan of soccer to begin with but women's is sub standard compared to the men's. In my favourite sport , ( AFL ) AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL- THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL , there is a women's league and the only female Aussie Rules player or former player I know of is Daisy Pearse , former player ,media commentator and now I believe coach of the women's West Coast Eagles team . I like watching the best of sport and women's team sports aren't in that bracket. On average Men are faster , stronger and more competition driven than our female counterparts. Its in our biology , it also contributes to why women outlive us .
Learning about her troubled upbringing and then how much she was shunned by the USWNT for not really following along with ideas of the "leaders" Wambach and Rapinoe, it's pretty clear that her demons got the best of her in her personal life for the whole world to see. I'm someone who sees Hope's story as a tragic one of no one being there for her when when she needed support than that of someone who damaged their reputation because of selfishness or stupidity. As someone whos lived a life around those battling depression, anxiety, and addiction, I feel for her. Hope isn't 100% innocent. Far from it. But US Soccer fans have seen for a long time what the USWNT used to be like if you didn't follow their agenda. Part of the reason having Emma Hayes as a manager is such a positive is that she isn't one to put up with the politics and favoritism shown by the old squads.
well said brother, good points. Still her DUI with her kids in the back made so many more people lose respect for her but hopefully she can turn a new lead
I saw the Netflix doc on her. She was kidnapped as a child by her father and the FBI raided their house to get her back to her mother. Hurt people do hurt people.
I think it’s generally fair to mention your frustration about poor coaching decisions that you don’t agree with, but don’t go overboard is my take. With that said, I doubt her not playing for that match was a strategic decision and probably more of a behaviour thing. Also, I feel so bad for her kids.
In lingala..."Solo" is a negative word.
Because we are never 'solo' it's like she has a blackhole for a soul
Not really. Depends on the context.
@christiannsl14 there is "solo" and "ya sólo". The tonation ain't the same.
what does it mean?
@@lobomalsano Due to her bad attitude, "solo" means smell funny, can also be interepreted in a positive way, but mostly negative.
Still waiting on a video on the legend of Scott Sterling.
I knew the word 'iconic' would be on this. It only took the video a minute for him to say, "iconic." UA-camr's favorite word.
🤣🤣🤣
Any chance you could do a video on John O’Brien? Probably one of us soccers biggest what ifs, hampered by injuries but great when he did play(Donovan once considered him the best USA player), he also works in psychology now
She is not the best person ever to be a goalkeeper, but she is the best goal keeper of all time.
7:15 "... police were called to the residence in Kirkland, Washington..."
Shows a Chattanooga police car, which is 2,500 miles away from Kirkland. Somehow I don't think that was footage from the incident. Maybe if stock footage is needed, we could get footage of Kirkland PD or at least something from the region?
2:39, in her interview, she thought the coach did it because of skill, it was probably a test
To be fair though, a semifinal is not a match that you would do such a test. Especially when it is one match
Just goes to show we’re all human. She has talent and is still just human.
8:00 people always forget to mention that the nephew was 6'9 and 280lbs, to out into perspective was 17 and taller than the undertaker.
As an adult, she had control in the situation but you cant get reasoning from a drunk adult. it was a messy situation for the family.
It's probably cause it's irrrelevant since you don't lay hands on anybody.
You should make a video about gareth bale
Probably the best GK in women's football.
Catlike ability and body control were part of her DNA.
Hope Solo and Marta were the only two Female footballers I knew before FIFA Games started to include Women into Ultimate Team.
Jerramy Stevens should've went to Arbys if he wanted a roast beef sandwich.
Like a grenade went off in a deli
Need one on Martha
The video contains an error:Solo did not concede a goal in the final of the 2008 Olympics;but she conceded one in the final of the 2012 Olympics.
Now I can name 2 women footballer
Name them😂😂😂😂
@mukwesamwanza1511 sam kerr and hope solo

I'm in the UK. I knew about her remarks about Sweden and the resulting suspension. I thought that was unbelievably harsh. Now I know it was an accumulation of offences
I always confused her with Alex Morgan back in the day, always thought they were the same person
Alex Morgan was my womens soccer crush back in the day 🤣

Ziiiiiiiiiiiiikaaa
Life on easy-mode; zero accountability, zero repurcussions, even when caught putting her two children at risk driving whilst intoxicated. Shameful.
that was a new low for her indeed
If they were honest about it, there would be nothing to complain about, and therefore no case.
Best channel ever
Hope Solo was a force to be reckoned with on the pitch, but her ego was tearing her apart off the pitch
well said
Once a Bomber, always a Bomber!! Hope was phenomenal!!
She looks like the actress that plays debra in dexter
the bay harbor keeper
Some high achieving athletes are bad actors off the pitch. Balotelli for instance. Tyson and McGregor get into altercations so often. Usually people who play contact sports are feisty.
I like Alyssa Naeher. And it will be interesting to see how the position evolves now that Naeher retired.
What a role model who shares the same last name of a troubled fictional character in a sci-fi drama.😅
Han Solo is her ancestor 🤣
She is beautiful
And crazy... Very VERY crazy.
@@r0dr1g0vf hot crazy scale strikes once again 😂
Please make a video about Roberto Rivellino
Still like what he delivered for US Women Soccer ,
4:28 Ahhh yes Fûm... Not problematic at all.
12:46 ah yes, drinking under the influence 😝
😭 didnt notice that
@RaymarFootball took me like 10 seconds to clock it 😅
So sad many celebrities ruined their life & career by the devil's brew alcohol & demonic psychotic drugs ... May Solo holding on her hope to make things right from these mistakes learnt! ⚽
i can totally relate with the feeling of watching the team plays second choice keeper and lost because of it as the first choice, i played as a keeper in my college before and it made me rage when they didnt start me and lose, its just i didnt have an interview to rant about it
fair enough haha
A Very low level of competition definitely helped her out
If the level of competition was low, they wouldn't have lost the 2011 WC Final to Japan now, would they?
It's as low as it can get
Ms Solo, she was a very good goalkeeper, but not the best - in my opinion.
Fair point, I think they’re the 2 best in women’s history
She was a good goalkeeper in a time that all female goalkeepers were bad now you have ten or 15 goalies around the world that smoke her out of the water
She was just ahead of time
may be true, but if you apply that to any era of any sport it still shows how much better some greats were than everyone else
Cool to see bro expand to the womens game
I don't know about her being compared to MLKJ...Jon Jones perhaps.
💀💀💀
Hey you footballers out there...the great ones have insane passions for the game,,,the list is long....!!!!!

@asant90 - its women's soccer . Most of us haven't heard of any of the players , regardless of where they're from . I personally only know of one , Sam Kerr ,but I don't know her position or who she plays for apart from the Matildas ( Australian national women's team ) .
@@Macman-v8mhow do you not even know Alex Morgan? She’s freaking hot and better looking than Sam kerr imo
@@Macman-v8mokey Alex Morgan was one too and Rapinoe because everybody hate her😂
@Bloodhound789 im not a fan of soccer to begin with but women's is sub standard compared to the men's.
Missed the chance to end with epic "Many have lost a lot of HOPE"
youre right 🤣😭
Learning about her troubled upbringing and then how much she was shunned by the USWNT for not really following along with ideas of the "leaders" Wambach and Rapinoe, it's pretty clear that her demons got the best of her in her personal life for the whole world to see.
Do one on mia hamm if you havent yet
So she was the zika goalkepper, interesting.
I swear you’ve done this video before, taken it down and reuploaded it?
Never brother
I saw the Netflix doc on her. She was kidnapped as a child by her father and the FBI raided their house to get her back to her mother. Hurt people do hurt people.
Source trust me bro
I think it’s generally fair to mention your frustration about poor coaching decisions that you don’t agree with, but don’t go overboard is my take. With that said, I doubt her not playing for that match was a strategic decision and probably more of a behaviour thing.
Also, I feel so bad for her kids. I hope she and her partner either get it together or her kids get a better home.
whatttttttttt, didn't know about this story
Still not close to a part time male goalkeeper.
as a parent i would choose name her Hannah Solo instead Hope Solo
