This song is my favorite song of all time! JCY has been with me all these years in his music. Thanks, Jesse. At this difficult time I find extra joy in this song!!!
He takes me away to a time of serenity in my life...emotions run high and he has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard!!!.. my he & his music live on FOREVER!!!
They opened for CSNY on the first night of the 74' tour here in Seattle. They were called back for TWO encores ! And I'd have to say that this song and Jim Rothermel's sax intro and solo brought down the house !
yep- JCY opened for CSNY at the Capitol Center in DC... later that night, Neil Young got into a huge fight onstage with Steve Stills and left the stage- never to return.
Jesse loved his home....but it was destroyed by a fire. So sad. Love the song, and the driveway markers being pieces of granite and chert. Bushes that turn into pie in July. What great lyrics.....what happened to the people who write songs? Peace to you, Jesse.
Chert is a mineral common to Marin. chert CHert/Submit noun a hard, dark, opaque rock composed of silica (chalcedony) with an amorphous or microscopically fine-grained texture. It occurs as nodules (flint) or, less often, in massive beds. I exchanged a couple of emails with Jesse. His favorite college class was geology...he went to OSU. He used to have his phone number in the Marin County phone book.
Jesse was such an incredible talent! I don't think he ever got the true recognition he deserved. I have loved his music for decades. I don't know where he is today, but I like to think of him up on his ridgetop, sitting on his front porch, smoking a big one. ♥️
Hi, Sweet Unicorn Ridgetop is catching your tracks, in the new fallen snow. But I'll follow them closely to see where they go If they lead to a spot where the poppy plants grew, I won't know where to stop till I'm off riding you... Still love this song and album in 2023. Bought it hot off the stands back in ‘72,3,4, can’t remember

+Bruce Moeller nice comment. In response- they're too busy holding up their pants; flocking- texting- ostrich buried into the sand of their machines .
Bruce Moeller great question
Bruce Moeller - Never heard of chert until this song entered my life. What is chert?

To layman like me , it's a a hard flintlike rock that's good for striking a spark on steel to light a fire 🙂 . Peace
Happy Birthday Jesse.
Musical giant! Rock on JCY.

Fantastic sax by Rothermel, love the Echoplex effect!

Hi, Sweet Unicorn
Ridgetop is catching your tracks,
in the new fallen snow.
But I'll follow them closely to see where they go
If they lead to a spot where the poppy plants grew,
I won't know where to stop
till I'm off riding you...
