Maths grad here. I became a energy trader and that analytical thinking made me $30m before 35. Also got a 1st class from a Russell group university after a lot of stress managing that and tennis. Maths degrees can make you wealthy if you apply them and also skills applicable to many STEM csreers. Grateful to all my great professors❤
@CharlesBrighton-mr4ev no quants need much more education - many have a PhD and build complex models. Energy trading uses mathematical Probabilities and patterns but less complex. More of a skill you need to develop once you are lucky to get a position.
I did maths/physics at another top university in a bubble - first year was a learning experience flunked it apart from a few maths courses. Then I improved every year to a first. I always seem to follow a “mighty ducks” arc.
goatttt, would you do any Uni maths vids like partial differentiation or laplace transforms? In foirst year mech eng and got an A* in A level maths of you
Maybe during the summer holidays for some fun. I've made some partials on my tiktok, would have to revise Laplace transforms again hahaha. During the school year I have to focus on A-Level GCSE stuff. Well done with your A-Level maths!
@ great lecturer and I can understand his English but some of his proofs just fly over my head, I think I suffer from the good at maths and further maths but not actually good at mathematics Syndrome
@@chonkycat123the heggarty book one is much clearer imo but I feel that only doing revision off of the book is very limiting considering that some of the proofs he uses for things like continuity using subsequences, the book doesn’t use and I think he might expect us to use them somewhere
Yaaah, very good marks, congrats to you. But am surprised why are there no modules in Computer Applications, Programming, coding, ICT or Networking etc. Almost all Maths courses nowadays are half IT.
Mmmmm given enough time to prepare i would still do well, but I do not think I would do as well as when I was 20 years old. I was a different beast at that age!
Thanks Andrea! Mathematics opens a lot of doors, most students go into high paying finance jobs (investment banking, actuary, accountancy and consulting), some go into coding/computer science, then some in academic research and teaching!
I am also doing this course at UCL. I am in my 3rd year. Do you have any tips for revision in general, and specifically for methods 5 and ecology? I would very much appreciate any tips I can get.
I spent a week re-writing my lecture notes then observing the last 5 years past papers to see what common proofs were asked (remembered those ones only) and practiced the computational stuff too
@NeilDoesMaths I see. I know pre-COVID the papers were pretty similar each year and there'd usually be choose 4 of 5 questions to answer or something like this. Now post-COVID they've made it 4 compulsory questions and the questions that came up pre-COVID don't frequently come up that much now. So it's a real pain trying to cover everything. But i will for sure try this thanks!
Be prepared for an academic shock in terms of formality. At university you have to adapt to thinking like an actual academic. Imo there is nothing you can do to prepare for it apart from being ready to accept that things are going to be super different to Alevels, just remember that after the first term, things get better
I undertook a maths and computer science degree from top university. I got a 3rd class degree with undiagnosed dyspraxia and ADHD. If I had treatment for ADHD, I would have achieved a 1st class degree or high 2:1. Do you know what support I could have had ?
if you tell your uni they should give you extra time to complete your exam... would be very useful for your ADHD and Dyspraxia... however you'd need a diagnosis to get this
A-Level I banged out ever paper in existence. For uni, I spent a week re-writing the lecture notes so I had context for what I had to remember for the exam. Then before the exam I spent a couple days looking at past papers and finding patterns in what gets asked. There is a lot less variance at university
What was the social life like at UCL? I've applied for chemical engineering at UCL, and am hoping to firm it as my first choice if I am to get an offer.
I wasn't the social type, but from what I observed of other people, it was decent! In London there is a lot more variety to go out to places. Most other unis there are only a couple places as you're isolated. Good luck with your application!

I graduated UCL maths this year. Funnily enough Probability and Stats still had a reputation for making people fail 😂

I'm working towards that too by God's grace
Well done JP!! Welcome to the club. You have a bright future ahead

everyone but a few get a massive shock in first year, questioning our life choices lmaooo
Nice one brother
It's good having you on the screen
Appreciate the support!
Being listed a top college doesnt necessarily mean difficult to get into. Fyi for anyone wondering.
So inspiring. Love you ❤

Thanks dawg
I’m watching this instead of sleeping before my maths (combinatorics and probability) that I gotta wake up for in like 6 hours 😭😂
gotta get that maths knowledge via diffusion innit
same bro
Great vid and a great journey you’ve been on! Respect 🏆
Thanks Fizy!
Thanks for sharing your uni studies journey with us😁
Of course!!
It would be interesting to know the reading list for each module.
i didnt read a single book at university lol... that is why i picked maths!
As someone who's too late to do further maths now is it still a good idea to do maths after a levels or is that a bad idea?
if you are going for a top uni, they will not accept you without further maths so you may have to take a gap year and self study

the jokes we had about residue theorem was crazy... not appropriate for youtube hahaha

I’m not going to survive analysis 2 at this rate lmao
The exam isn't that bad trust. You just have to remember some of the main proofs and you'll be alright. I was panicking like you!
