Best coverage of a mid race battle I've seen, a little sad this is when Ryan decided to retire as he definitely had the pace to stick with the Europeans it was just a matter of adjusting to a different racing series
Going to Europe and head to head with them on their soil in their series by such an accomplished American rider can be seen as two things. 1. A dumb move. Should've retired or raced here another year where he's familiar and not tarnished his legacy. 2. A damn gutsy move by an American badass who has proven himself here and in multiple des nations that simply wanted a new challenge. A warrior who wants to challenge himself and isn't afraid to put it on the line. That showed up. That lined up. That has raced neck and neck with Europe's best on their soil. Like a fight. He's not winning, but he's getting shots in and making it exciting. I see it the 2nd way. He has made the mxgp much better. He has caused the top European riders to get the respect from Americans they may not have had before. Even on tracks like Trentino that are all wrong for his aggressive style, he goes balls out to win and brings tons of excitement with him. He is respectful to Europeans and their riders. He has shown up and brought it. He has won an overall his first year which is unprecedented. He has run at the front and in Qatar rode his ass off after the gate stall and crashes to an impressive finish under the circumstances. The dude is a warrior. Not a shit talker. Not disrespectful. A winner. Here in the u.s. he is the man and would smoke anybody from any country. In Europe he's not the man. Cairoli is. Nagle, Desalle, and others are the Dungeys, Canards, and Tomac's of europe. It's like Cairoli coming here and facing RV and our boys on our tracks. A near impossible thing to pull off. So he isn't dominating as he has here, but at least it shows how good the mxgp riders are and they get the recognition from America now. They wouldn't be if this American badass hadn't been gutsy enough to go jump into the GP'S without racing an outdoor in nearly two years, new team, we environment, etc. Ok so Cairoli and them boys are that good. RV can't dominate as some thought. Fine. Respect goes to GP riders, but RV has run with Europe's best, has had an overall, and will have other wins. That's worthy of respect and a great feat. He's also brought unprecedented recognition to the mxgp and the quality of the European riders. He is a gutsy American badass fighting the fight and giving it hell. He has made it far more exciting. This has helped the European series and it's riders immensely. I'm proud of our guy. He's a gutsy champion fighting against the odds.
Nobody knows what Villopoto wanted except Villopoto. He did make it clear that he was burned out on the American supercross-straight into ama motocross schedule and the toll it takes. He stated that it was his decision to go to Europe and race the GP's and needed a change. Unless anyone can prove otherwise then they are only guessing and full of shit. RV said what he said. Anyone who disputes his story without proof is full of shit. Period. That's is reality.
Choochn Baggretts ralph and jeff always talk about the same things over and over, and are very superficial. European commentators in general have much more freedom and can discuss things much better
Miguel Tavares Emig's always patting himself on the back about starts, or one of a thousand random things he said earlier in the day that no one remembers. Ray Hudson or Joe Buck: NO COMPETITION. European sport commentators truly are better. Agree w/ you completely.
Marek Sumguy He guessed coccyx right away...And what did RV break??? Oh yeah, his tailbone, which is EXACTLY what the coccyx is... I bet Fro doesn't even know the term coccyx. Emig is a good commentator because he can relate to the sport, but my god man, in no way is he a great one. He is very slow and does not analyze the race as well as these two do. For god sakes they don't even know the names and numbers of most of the privateers...
MrTmel123 ... whats wrong with you people!?... Jeff is good. Being a motorsport commentator isn't just about whats going on in race standings.... its also about the technicality of the machinery. Jeff is very good at this.
Any way you look at it 95% of the riders in GP or SX go out everyday and go balls to the wall. Reading through these comments I don't see anyone who could keep up with anyone on this level unless you racing Mike Alessi.
KSH172 Why so sarcastic... It isnt as easy like he think i would be! The top riders over here are really fast!! 3 or 4 year ago Desalle and Strybos went as wildcare for a few races in the US and they both were in the top 10, and they never raced there before! Some guys in the US think were some amatures here in the GP's but were very strong! The weekends are tougher and our tracks are more technical! The sand in southwick is nothing compared to the sand of lommel, ask Carmichael... And the travelling! Last 2 years at the nations, where were the Americans?
Yes but no I'll tell you what I think villopoto went to mxgp just to finish his career he don't love the sport he just wants his us legacy to last and still wants a pay check.
The nations really? You had 2 rookies and a guy who only wins anything when the top guys are hurt. And if you look at villipoto he always starts off slow, he didn't even look like a top 3 guy when he moved to the 450. He will race the Mxgps next year and demolish. completely new tracks for him and system. You all thought he was going to come in and have a perfect season? Then you don't know villopoto. And if you want to talk about the nations he demolished everyone on a 250 in 07.
KSH172 Read your facts dude... This is Villo's last year of racing!!! And i have been following the AMA's for years, so i know the history of AMA and GP's! And i know he's a great rider but demolishing GP guys, i dont think so!!! And the Nations in 07, even RC was nowhere comparing RV, so what your opinion about that? Is he a bad racer? I dont think so... Look at Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin, where do you think there come from!! The GP's indeed, so i can assure you, this is high level and if you know anything about racing, you would agree!! The only thing i wanted to say is, that the level over here is very high, and he had higher expectations, thats a fact!
In fact ,Dessale is very difficult to overtake. If he knows he wont beat you, he let you go away. But , if he thinks he has the time to be before you before the end of race , you have a BIG problem ! He says "Ok , you are faster..., I will be slow for you to come near me for 2 rounds. Then I will be very faster at this moment. Good luck"

I'm sure RV would do a lot better (not that he was doing bad) if he had a season or 2 to get used to the European racing. Everyone says "Roczen and Musquin are from the GP's and look how dominant they are" but it seems they forget that it took K-Roc and Musquin a few years over in the U.S. to even start challenging for wins. Nope he wasn't fired until today. they still miss nearly EVERY great moment at every race. It's just unbelievable.
