Thanks for the video and detailed explanation Sifu Burton. I tried this Cotton Fist technique on my Mook Jong -Wooden Man. I hit it in the way you described and it lifted off the ground and went back a few steps! I didn't expect it would be that powerful. I'm definitely interesting in learning more and would like to train with you at some point. I'm currently based in Norwich and am learning Bak Mei Kung Fu which I've been doing for the past year which is also a very powerful art.
Spectacular Sifu! I had an earlier version of this video and kept wondering about the "Cotton Fist". Combining the last video with this has made this much easier to understand.
Very descriptive video! Seen previously but watching again, along with countless Erle Montaigue sudden violence fajin videos that taught me the basics of explosive fajin waist power with internal power. Interesting to see the similar power benefits, albeit without reload and possibly slightly less internal energy, but this is still phenomenal in its own right! Wish I'd seen and learnt this first tbh!! Your description is brilliant and it's a better way to learn the fundamentals and significant power, before the complexity of the 3 way waist shake and numerous hand positions/closures that all have to be linked with the fajin movement 👍👍
Firstly, nice punch. Secondly, you say the opposite hip doesn’t move back but when you punch there is a clear rotation in your hips. What am I not understanding?
Hi, if you watch the clip the back leg hip moves forward and rotates. The difference is a lot of martial arts use the centre of the top of the head with a line straight down through the groin to the floor as their axis. So the body turns on that axis. The way I do it is to change the axis to the left hip and straight down to the floor. So, this creates forward inertia without lose of power with the other hip going back. So to use an analogy, think of a revolving door, your have 50% forward inertia and 50% backward inertia. When you change the axis to the leg it is more like a conventional door opening on a hinge. The inertia is 100% in one direction only. This is how you maximise power in cotton fist as there is no wasted kinetic energy. Hope that makes sense. Best wishes Steven
Sensei, Please exp,ain this cotton fist" in more detail. This reminds me of Bruce Lee's two inch punch. Alot of hidden power.
This is amazing stuff thanks Steve

Hi James, the reload is there, from a Chen Tai Chi perspective I call it ‘subtle power’.
If your opponent can see it coming it isn’t subtle!
excelente
But to be certain, the previous video is like a primary strike (the 6 co-ordinations) while the Cotton Fist is more advanced? Or how are they related?
