    To be honest it was only in my wildest dreams that I could see Gåte making MGP. And when they do, they of course do it their own epic way! We simply MUST vote "Ulveham" to Malmø, so Gåte can do their magic also on the Eurovision stage! BTW; lead singer Gunhild and her brother who is also in the band hails from a place appx 5 km down the road from where I live, so I have lots of reasons to support them for Eurovision glory this year!

    Such an epic entry. Just love the Norwegian feel of it that makes it feel like it could easily be in Game of Thrones. It is super Nordic and I love it. The song is absolutely epic and just captivated me with every single listen. Incredible song, incredible vocals, incredible sound, ethereal feel, winner potential. All I need to say. 10/10, everything that I want and need in an NF song. Can’t wait to see this live and I so want to see this slay on the main Eurovision stage, it secondly win MGP and Eurovision as a whole.

    There is 2 band in Norway that are able to make it magical performance on stage and that is Gåte and Wardruna. Their latest concert last year was so amazing and magical. note! Violin player in Gåte now is coming from Wardruna, so their live performance is insane good 😊

      John Stenersen doesn't play violin (at least I haven't seen him doing so), but hurdy-gurdy and keyed fiddle (nøkkelharpe in Norwegian), and I have also seen him on bass and keyboards at Gåte's concert last year in Oslo. He is also the band leader and only founding member left of the female-fronted Norwegian Folk Rock/Metal band Bergtatt, who released two albums, "Røtter" and "Lagnadsoger". There hasn't been much activity from them over the last couple of years, but they still exist and played at a medieval festival in Norway last year. There is also a clip of a live concert they played in 2016 to be found on youtube: ua-cam.com/video/rrcHo3jdcU8/v-deo.html

    Love it! Gåte was pretty big in Norway in the early 2000's, won some major music awards and stuff. So hopefully their old fans will unite to vote for them! I agree, it feels very Norwegian. And unique. Hope this is our winner! Really recommend checking out their album Iselilja from 2004! Haven't really heard the newer stuff, but I'm sure it's great too.

    So powerful song. So hunting and so much energy. The only thing I missed was a higher note in the final ending of the song. It is building up so nicely in the end and a higher last note would be absolute perfect to close this masterpiece.

    Particularly sweet reaction and how cool that you do the introduction in fluent Norwegian 😊. Well done! There are many really good entries at the national selection this time. Just like others pointed out before me the right meaning of the word "ham" in this setting isn't the pronoun "ham" (English: him), but the noun "ham" meaning the skin (outer layer of your skin), and here in combination with the word "ulv" (wolf). In other words meaning "wolf skin (fur)", as when talking about werewolves and people that for a period of time transforms into this. Luckily werewolfs are also referred to as "wolfmen" in the English language, so when you say wolf man it doesn't seem all wrong, although it might've been by chanse that the meaning matched this time). The word ham is also to find in words such as "hamløper", which in English is called shapeshifer, such as werewolves and vampires would be. And in the word "hamskifte", which is the process that snakes go through when shedding their skin. It's worth mentioning that Gåtes newest member John Stenersen also is a band member of Wardruna, which is another great band producing similar type of music that takes traditional instruments and sounds in use. It's great fun to see that people you went to kindergarten with is going somewhere. Good luck to Gåte at MGP 😉!

      😘 If you feel keen to check out other songs of this progressive folk-rock/electronica band, mate, then there are so many good ones to choose between. Try this one for instant: "Skarvane". That's the name of a type of bird, which in English is called cormorants. 🎶🎵 These lyrics are based on the folktale "Skarvane fra Utrøst" (The comorants from Utrøst).

    According to popular belief, «ham» is the layer of human skin that hides a werewolf🐺 In the context of this song.
    From the lyrics;
    “…Så skapte ho meg i ein ulve grå
    Ho sa' at eg sille på skogjen gå…”
    “…Then she created me in a gray wolf
    She said that I should go to the forest…”

    Distinctive, wonderful mix of folk music and rock. If Gåte wins the Norwegian final, which I think they will, they can go far in the international competition - they are guaranteed to get high scores in countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, but will southern and eastern Europe like the song?

    Ulv is wolf, but ham does not means him in this context. Maybe some Norwegians here can help us to translate "Ulveham" right? Wolf fur..?

    • @erlendeide8566
      @erlendeide8566 7 місяців тому +2

      Ham is related to fur in this context, yes. The usual word for fur is "pels", but the word ham can describe the whole fur cover of animals. For example, some animals change their fur cover before winter time. We then say that they "skifter ham", like shedding skin in english i think. According to my english-norwegian dictionary, one meaning of the english word "slough" translates into ham.

      I would say "ham" is like a disguise - but only in regards to animal fur/skin. So if someone has an "Ulveham" - they are disguised as/wearing a Wolf fur.

  • @WolfBeache
    @WolfBeache 6 місяців тому

    A bit language confusion ther with the word "ham". It's one of those words that has several meanings. It can mean like "him", but in this case "ham" means the outer layer on animals, like skin, hair or feathers. So Ulveham can translate to wolf skin"
    From Wikipedia: The main draw of this medieval story is that a young maiden is transformed into a needle, a knife, and then a sword by her evil stepmother. However, the people continue to appreciate her throughout all of her transformations, angering her stepmother. Therefore, to punish her even more, the stepmother transforms her into a wolf. It ends with the stepmother, pregnant with child, being pounced on by the wolf. To lift the curse, the wolf drinks the blood of her unborn half-brother.

    FYI this song isn't actually in old norse, it is writen in Landsmål (with a few changes) which is the most conservative form of nynorsk (new norwegian, one of the two writen types of modern norwegian), so this song is entirely modern norwegian, but it uses words that has descended from old norse to a large degree.

    Ulveham doesn't mean wolf man, that would be ulveman or varrulv.
    Ham is the shape or form or skin/hide of an animal, is attributes/qualities/essence. Ulveham is the shape or form of a wolf. Bjørneham is the shape or form of a bear. Hamram is a very old word that is not common today but common in the viking age. A person who is hamram is a shapeshifter. It was often used about berserkers, they changed and became wolves, bears, etc, and of course those that today, would be called a shaman.
