This has been growing on me a lot. I forgot what it sounded like when I heard it first, but now I just scream it out loud whenever it comes on shuffle

@@RosieSusanaESC which isn’t necessarily good when people listen to it for the first time which they usually do in MGP/ESC.. 😀

I am friends with the band members in Keiino, and really like their song, but this is honestly my favorite this year.

Lenge siden jeg har sett Erlend Loe i noens bokhylle :) I totally understand what you mean by "looking for that little bit", but I think they managed to find that piece in their live-performance. I saw Gåte live 20 years ago, so nice seeing them back in the game. Our heritage needs Gåte to keep making music.

They started in 1999, when their vocalist was just 14 years old and I've been a fan of them since 2004. I saw them live 2 1/2 months ago in Oslo and they were absolutely fantastic! BTW, the ESC-version you listened to is just about half as long as the original version. I also recommend to check out all the music and live videos on their youtube-channel. Gåte are now my favourite non-metal band. Since you mentioned you like Folk mixed with Rock and female vocals, I also recommend to check out the Norwegian Folk Rock/Metal band Bergtatt (try their song "Huldra") and the Swedish Folk Rock band Garmarna, who started in the early nineties and also inspired Gåte. I recommend their music video of "Den Bortsålda" (it's from 1994!): ua-cam.com/video/7j9HTcl3khs/v-deo.html Fun fact: In 1997, Garmarna participated in the Swedish pre-elections of the ESC with their song "En Gång Ska Han Gråta" (there's also a clip of this performance on YT), but didn't win.
Since it seems you like the sound of Norwegian, I'd also like to recommend my favourite Norwegian lyricist/live artist, the singer/songwriter Kari Bremnes, who grew up on the Lofoten Islands and sings in her beautiful northern Norwegian dialect. While there isn't that much Folk or Rock in her songs (there are a few exceptions to the rule), many of her songs convey IMO a very "nordic" atmosphere, especially the first song "Sangen om fyret ved Tornehamn" on her concept album "Svarta Bjørn" (1998), which I bought 25 years ago and immediately fell in love with. The aforementioned song has become one of two songs she plays at nearly each and every concert. While there are also two live-videos of this song on her official youtube-channel, I'd recommend to start with the original studio-version, because the atmosphere of this one is IMO even more intense: ua-cam.com/video/GXG6Iau-Smc/v-deo.html

Bergtatt! I've actually known of them for years haha! I'll check out Garmarna and Kari Bremnes now, thanks for the recommendations!

@@RosieSusanaESC You know Bergtatt? Now I'm curious to hear how you heard about them, considering that they are very underground, their second and so far last album was released in 2013 and their last facebook-entry dates from 2018. If you know them, you might have noticed that John Stenersen, their hurdy-gurdy- and keyed fiddle-player and only founding member left, also appears on the pics of Gåte in connection with their participation at the ESCe-pre-election. He also played with them live on their tour in October/November, replacing fiddle- and keyboard-player Sveinung Sundli, who is the older brother of Gåte's vocalist and had left the band just a few weeks before the tour. I hope you will also check out the music and live videos you find on Gåte's youtube-channel, because the song "Ulveham" is IMO far from being their best one!
Since you know Bergtatt, have you already seen the video of their concert at Barba Negra in Hungary in 2016 here on youtube? They played two unreleased songs, one of which, titled "Varulven", was already played by Garmarna on their album "Guds Spelemän" (1996). And the song "Bläck" on Bergtatt's debut "Røtter" is actually a somewhat heavier cover version of Garmarna's song from their third album "Vedergällningen" (1999). You might also like the Swedish band Hedningarna, who featured two female vocalists from Finland on three of their albums, the Finnish band Gjallarhorn (their lyrics are mostly in Swedish, though), who also use a didgeridoo in many of their songs and whose vocalist sometimes reminds me a bit of Garmarna-vocalist Emma Härdelin.
You might also like the Sami vocalist Mari Boine from Norway, who also practises Joiking, the traditional chanting of the Sami people. In addition to this, I'd like to recommend you the Folk-influenced albums "Spindelsinn" (1997) by Kari Rueslåtten, "Solrenning" (1997) by Anne Vada/Aki Fukakusa and "Haugtussa" (1995) by Lynni Treekrem. The latter is based on an epic poem by Arne Garborg and the lyrics are in Nynorsk. Note that other albums by these last three vocalists are not Folk-influenced! If you'd like me to recommend specific songs, let me know.

I love Gåde's powerful version and hope they win the whole Eurovision contest! Heja Norge!!! 😘🇧🇻✌️ Love from Sweden!
Btw, here's a video with english translations of all the (dark) lyrics from this old Scandinavian/Norse ballad for anyone interested... ua-cam.com/video/dLYkogvmqYg/v-deo.htmlsi=CixZdaz-ixhoo8WW
The ballad is called Vedergällningen (The Revenge?) by Garmarna, an old swedish folk-rock group. So not to be confused by Varulven (The Werewolf) which is another old scandinavian folkballad, ua-cam.com/video/nD8MKECCdxc/v-deo.htmlsi=rGwsGWTBXCoBY6Kn

It helps to get the story of "Ulveham" - an old norse myth, where a fair maiden must endure an evil stepmother (fairytale classic theme, so far..). Taken from the olden days, this tale is much darker. The stepmother eventually transforms her into a wolf and banishes her to live her life alone in the dark forest. The only way she can end the curse is by drinking her brother's blood.

I think is to mutch screaming ! In the past, the women stood and called out to the cows to come and that is why there is screaming in the song . This is not my winner. I am from norway .Thank you for reaction and Norwgien flag behind you
