Hi, Scott. My grandfather was a bartender, too. He owned and ran the Town Tavern in a town in eastern Pennsylvania when I was a kid. I was treated to small bottles of Coca-Cola and bags of cheese curls.
The question of how one wishes to die always reminds me of this joke. “When it is my time to die, I just want to die peacefully in my sleep. That’s how my uncle died. I certainly don’t want to die panicking and screaming like the _passengers_ on his bus.”

This was so enjoyable! I'm 55 so I think I was just old enough to vaguely remember Western-y things, though I can't say I really sought it out. But you're right, it's somehow in our blood. Or it was. I watch old shows now and it all feels familiar to me even though I don't remember really being into it when I was a kid. A few years ago I discovered The Rifleman while flipping channels. I'd never even heard of it. I fell in love from the opening credits with THAT GUN! I know zero about guns and yet I love them. I'd never seen anything like that! I adore the father/son relationship. The child actor who played the son was wonderful. Something about the "strong silent" type of man raising his son alone, teaching him to be honest and honorable - oh, that gets me every time. I wish I could find a husband like that. Ah, well.

Johnny Crawford was the kid playing Mark McCain. When we were kids, my cousin Cindy had a huge crush on him. He was also one of the original Mouseketeers on the old Mickey Mouse Club.

Yes, the thumbnail photo is fantastic!
Wonder Dad was a huge TV westerns fan, so this makes me think of him.
      Great tag. Well done!

Hi! It was so interesting to hear your answers to the tag. I live in Huntington Beach here in Orange County, and I've also been to The Harp (when I worked in Newport Beach years ago). Coincidentally, there's Starr Ranch here in the OC. Its an Audubon Sanctuary in the Coto de Caza area. You MUST read Lonesome Dove by the way!

I wonder if the Starr Ranches are affiliated. The one we went to also had nature trails up into the hills, and seems like they mentioned having other sites here and there. I WILL get to "Lonesome Dove" one day soon. Sláinte!

Thanks! Glad I thought to haul out that old lantern. My sister used to have the green one, but not sure what happened to that one now.

This has turned out to be a fun tag. Enjoyed your version of it.
I like Glenfiddich. That is when I can get it. A gin & tonic is nice. Especially with the dozens of different gins around. Now I'm thirsty and want to sit back hav a drink and watch a few Maverick episodes.

Truth be told, I’m really more of a scotch guy, myself. Jameson is my go-to for economic purposes. But enjoy some Maverick! Slainte!

@@jscottphillips503 Oh you know what? I used "Jase" unconsciously there! 🙈 I call you Jase in my head when I'm watching your videos. It's a shortening of J. And Scott. Sorry about that!

They did suck at teaching history when I was in school. Now I want to read a Western 🤔
Also, is that a tricorder on your shelf?

    • @jscottphillips503
      @jscottphillips503  Рік тому +1

Definitely read a Western! There is still a week left for June on the Range!
And yes, the tricorder was home-made by a friend of mine in high school, c1972. All he had to go by was the prop photo in Stephen Whitfield's "The Making of Star Trek." It holds two D batteries which make the screen light up and the speaker under the flap buzz. He made the screen out of sunglass lenses.

@@jscottphillips503 Wow, that makes the tricorder even better! Homemade props are the best! It looks really good.
